Loved seeing you take charge and jump right into action. Even though this isnt your primary job, you sounded just like a chief the way you handled it and made your reports on the radio. Really glad to see people like you out there!
That was pretty impressive how you handled that fire Eric. Cool, calm, and thorough. Talking to dispatch, gearing up and knocking on doors, and getting accurate and clear info to arriving units/chiefs... very impressive. If you and your wife wouldn't have noticed that smoke, that fire could've gotten a lot worse in the next minutes that 911 wasn't called. Great job again!
You two do such a great job letting the public know what their tax dollars provide for !! Johnnie on the spot for that structure fire Dude, good work but I would expect nothing less from a CLASS 1 Dept. Thank you for all your Dept. does !!
Great work PIO Hurst! Working fires are very intense and fast-paced events, especially with modern construction. You and your wife definitely caught that at the right time! Also, I really enjoy these vlogs, seeing as I frequently interact with the media for my photography/videography. There aren't many channels like South Metro Fire! I'll have to stop by next time I'm on vacation!
Great size up, after listening to many different size up's via scanner traffic I would hope Eric's calm explanation could teach volunteer agencies how to respond to their neighbors in time of need.
WHAT??? Since WHEN is a PIO part of the command structure???? THE ONLY DUTY THEY HAVE IS TO A THERE NAME SAYS HANDING OUT INFORMATIONS OF INCIDENTS TO THE PUBLIC!!! They don´t even have any education in EMS or fire fighting, so they aren´t allowed to be part of the commando... all this guy in this vlog did, was reporting a fire like a private person, with the difference he had an official radio to report it.
@@SirBender Eric was a firefighter for South Metro before he became a PIO. As a PIO they get command training as well, there is a video on their channel showing one of them taking the training. So Eric the one in command in the video he does have fire fighter and EMS training.
Great job finding the fire and establishing a quick ic and getting units there quickly from being a former firefighter you had a great job doing what needed to get done with the very little resources that you had until units got there
Eric you and your wife are absolutely amazing and awesome the way you both sensed something not right and took charge 😎 You seemed to handle the entire call soo calmly 😁😎 Your wife did a great job filming too. Thanks for sharing this.
If you do a video about dispatching, it would be interesting to hear about the radio and the training everyone goes through on it. Seems like one technique I assume for clarity is the other party repeats what you said back to you, stuff like that would be nice to learn about. Also things like what's dispatched to certain calls, like this they sent multiple stations, multiple BCs, ect.
Excellent on scene command Eric. Your wife displayed service above the call of duty when detecting the smoke and alerting you to it and for you starting the investigation, notifying fire dispatch, filming and waking up the neighbors to evacuate from the fire. Well done by you both. Connor is a wonderful and talented addition to the PIO staff. What does Conner do when not on her 7 day on call duty? Is she a firefighter with South Metro? Curious about her background and how she became a wonderful PIO. If you went through firefighter training Conner, what did you think of being inside a burning structure for the first time and dragging the hose while extinguishing the fire? 🔥 Your videos are amazing and we'll done. They should be broadcast on tv nationwide as a tv series, similar to Live Rescue! Well done to you both Conner & Eric and to all others involved with your PIO office and firefighters at South Metro. Stay safe. - from retired Navy & civilian firefighter & wildland firefighter, rescue , hazmat tech, EMT medic.
Eric, do you have any command experience? I was impressed by how you handled the situation and I thought you did a great job on the size up. Your wife also shot some great video. Thank you for your service!! Also Eric, do you carry SCBA in your PIO vehicle?
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO I would think they should be equipped with SCBA's because if you are the first on the scene, and your breathing in heavy thick smoke, isn't that really dangerous, and can't it also cause severe difficulty breathing, and also very rarely have severe side effects such as puking?

Just curious how your progression of command works? here, officer of first-arriving unit is command until relieved by an officer of higher rank. I know you took command as the primary; did the first-in truck take command, or did you keep it till the BC got there? (also, in the city I live in, we don't have BCs, on a fire event, dispatch pages the asst. chief on duty/call. I know that a recently retired AC would leave command with the first-in officer, and just standby to support/advise them, instead of just assuming command.)
@PIO10 Did you work for South Metro as a FF prior to your appointment as PIO? From the sound of your size up it seems like you have some command experience. Great work and great content!
