RIP Jimmy "the rev" Sullivan this was before he passed
Really? Thought it was his ghost or something behind the kit.
mathiasvbl 😂 that was a funny ass comment 😂
@Logan 5 he dead, rev is dead. He kicked the bucket. Passed the final gas.
@@mathiasvbl The knife master has returned
2008 live in the lbc
The drummer has a surprisingly great voice, plus he sings while playing the drums which is extremely difficult
Jimmy was a damn beast
He was a singer in another band as well, called Pinkly Smooth
I'm a drummer and I agree, it's hard as fuck to do vocals while drumming 🤣🤣
Well the Rev was the fucking best ever 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@tachankathelordofrainbow6431 agreed.
The Rev’s backing vocals in the chorus ❤️
😭❤👍
He was so good man
"Heart is always with you now" :'(
The reason I prefer the live on this one
Do an after reaction of how his voice is now, I recommend Roman sky at Grammy museum pls :)
Roman sky is still before major damage to his voice, they canceled their tours a year ago, so there's not really any new content to react to about his current voice until the new album drops, mad hatter was recorded before the tours were canceled as well.
Yes please that show is amazing
@@sirstabbyfork9675 I don't think this latest thing was a big damage.
@@Omega-fb9ji not as major as in he past no, but I think it's still quite big for him to cancel the rest of their tour.
@@sirstabbyfork9675 It was the last leg of the tour that is supposed to last just for a 3-4 weeks and the vocal chords cyst doesn't heal in a just few days.
Honestly never clicked on a video so fast
Honestly, same 😅
Same
I wasn't even finished reading. I saw the thumbnail and "reacts to Aven.." and I clicked so fast 😂
19vanessa91 I voted for this song on Instagram so I knew it was coming, just saw Beth Roars and instantly clicked 😂
Sameeeee I saw AVE- out of the corner of my eye and was like hell yeah!!
I was at the Live In The LBC show right in front of the stage and hearing this live was the most amazing thing ever. That entire night was a night I will NEVER forget
Best concert I've ever seen, and I only saw the televised version. I can't imagine being there.
I’m so jealous of you😂
@@noahhamel6689 I live 25 mins from where all of them live and Long Beach is only about 45 mins away, it was my first time seeing them too. I've hungout with the band twice and had a couple drinks with Syn one on one while our kids ran around lol
My pops surprised me with tickets for me and him as my birthday present, we didn't know they were filming for the DVD till right before they came on. They filmed the crowd scenes for the Dear God music video that night too
@@nickkduhh that’s awesome, I hope to see them when they start touring again
Shouldve gotten an Autograph from Mateo 🤣
His vocals were healthy at this point. He didn't have any problem for more than 10 years after this concert.
Wrong, he had issues during "The Stage" world tour and they skipped Italy for that reason
@@atxngr7693 The skipped Italy because construction worker died and that was 10 or 11 years after this concert.
Oh you're right, I haven't checked my fact book in a while
Exactly what I was thinking he was at his peak at this point and didn't have any problems for a long time
This was in April 2008. I was supposed to see them in September 2008 and they cancelled the first few weeks of the tour because he was having vocal issues. I feel like it happened in 2017 too. As well as the initial vocal surgery he had in 2004 I think after they finished touring for Waking the Fallen and he blew his voice out.
I’m really impressed with your knowledge in not just singing techniques but vocal issues as well.
You should see/hear him now, Beth! His technique is absolutely impeccable with a decade of vocal coaching after he healed up. Nightmare live from the Capitol Records rooftop is great.
I heartily second that. I think you'd be pleased, if not entirely delighted with how he sounds now! ❤️
Hes had the same vocal coach since 2004...didnt have anything to do with that. It was due to him doing longer shows and with tons of grit and volume
That rooftop performance wasnt too hot in my opinion, probably due to altitude issues and whatnot. But when Matt's voice is on its fucking on. Great frontman and awesome voice of the last 20 years.
I think Afterlife is pretty good now, too.
Do Avenged Sevenfold - God Hates Us live at Rock Am Ring 2011
yeahhhh I think I know why you're recommending that one xD
TOTAL NIGHTMAREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER
Even though he doesn’t
That one might not be quite as healthy lol
RealGamerManz it’s the opposite of healthy
M shadows is so good that he sounds the exact same live as he does in a studio
Well, don’t look very far into this concert album then
I think he sounds even better live. Well he used to.
Way better live
Please, react to A little piece of heaven or crittical acclaim LBC live !!!
Any song but that one.
Second heartbeat would be awesome
@@ruleaus7664 Right
Why A Little Piece Of Heaven? I like the song, but vocally, it's not really interesting.
Uppppppp
I mean... I love him, his voice was and is... ugh it just melts me everytime
Me too, no homo though
Avenged sevenfold makes me feel a certain kind of way
Especially their soft hard emotional music
The only song that I'm not so much of a fan of even though there are parts of it that I like is Lost. I don't like that their vocals were roboticized on that song
@@jamieA7Xfan90 I haven't heard that song yet. Your comment made me a little curious..
@@midnightcountess7408 as I said, I don't like the fact that they roboticised parts of M Shadows' & The Rev's vocals as they both have amazing singing voices
@@jamieA7Xfan90 that bad? Well shit..
It's a really good song though. There is a interview where they state that they just wanted to play with it, but not over use it like a lot of people do now a days
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE (Howard Jones) - END OF HEARTACHE
This, so much this
I’d like to know what she thinks about Jones’ powerful voice
signal fire both Howard and Jesse
Killswitch engage "signal fire" 🔥. Featuring BOTH Jessie and Howard. It's truly an epic song and video
Denis Gretsky it’s an amazing song but you barely hear Howard’s clean vocals. It would be better if she did one song from each singer
A7x was my first real favorite band. Synyster Gates and The Rev, so good~
Honestly the fact that shadows could sing as well as he has in his career is impressive. I mean the band was formed by a bunch of friends not like he was a life long trained vocalist hand picked for the band.
He has improved quite a bit in his technique. I always thought his voice sounds best when he does the grittier singing parts, and now I know why. I learn so much from you, Beth.
Avenged Sevenfold god hates us live at rock am ring 2011!!
Fire
That shit was 🔥🔥
@@Marta1Buck yeah, hopefully
Yea, specially that 11 seconds scream before the ending then still singing another phrase right after that scream.
Owww that's scream of M.shadow SO EPIC !!!!!
I can't believe it'll be ten years come Dec that we all lost Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan drummer/singer extraordinaire... RIP
Get reaction/analysis video Beth.
foREVer
RIP. The first artist I cried for when they passed away.
He will come back Dec 28 and be the knife master....right!💖
I saw them live september of that year, so glad I got to see The Rev with them
I love how you're not just reacting to what you're hearing, but breaking down his breath and speaking voice. You should react to one of his recent performances at the Grammy Museum!
The harmonies with Jimmy sound so good. You should check out some of his singing (the drummer). Maybe Fiction?
Fiction is my favorite song by these guys. The meaning is so deep and hearing Rev’s final part (.His final goodbye to the band) that he finished recording three days before he died is a bit eerie, but also, extremely emotional in a good way.
A Litle Piece Of Heaven! 🙏🤞
always wanted to see a serious voice coach video on that song ❤
You should hear how good the original drummer (the one in this video) was. So good.
You mean Jimmy (the rev) right
thanks you not mention portnoy, this kind band are not in the portnoy league, almost easy, too easy exactly
@@distorsiroot ah, one of those people
@@distorsiroot hate to tell you this but Brooks Wackerman is either on par or just as good as Portnoy and even he says the Rev was great so put some respect on Jimmy's name or meet the knife master!! (TRUE A7x fans will get that reference)

Man Rest In Peace Jimmy. Absolutely love his voice.
Now to the video. These videos are always interesting to hear the quality of someone’s voice from a professional POV.
He's always been one of my favorite rock vocalists

Ooooh this is a good one
That may be my favorite live song 💯

Dude do you even know hpw long that'll take? It would take a lot of work as well.
Also not everyone who watches her is gonna be a fan so don't order to do stuff like that. Chill
You've given me a whole new perspective on music. As a guitarist I've never really considered how much work goes into signing. Always thought you have it or you don't. Thanks for that :)
I've been waiting for this one! Thank you
I think M Shadows has had vocal problems since early on, he used to growl A LOT on Avenged Sevenfold's first two albums and right around the time he stopped growling he got vocal surgery. His voice sounds great when he's singing now but maybe he wasn't growling in a healthy way back then and it's still affecting him now? Anyway great video, A7X was one of my favorite bands back in the day and it was cool to revisit them. Also while I'm here I might as well throw in a request for "Oathbreaker - 10:56 / Second Son Of R" on Audiotree Live, their vocalist has an extremely unique vocal style.
He said a lot of times that he also isn't interested in growling anymore because they've done that already and that there are other bands who'd do it way better.
I wouldn’t say he sounds great now. They had to cancel their last tour because of vocal issues and I haven’t heard anything from him since.
Yeah those first 2 albums for sure fucked him up. Hes still great, still love the hell out of this band
@@mastertij975 Did you miss The Stage and Mad Hatter? He sounds phenomenal. As Beth said, when you're pushing your voice to the extreme (using heavy distortion and at the limit of his range) and putting it to constant use (recording a full 11 track, 73 minute album, and touring non-stop for about 3 years, and practising for 2 hours a day every day in between all of this), it's going to take it's toll. Having to cancel the tour doesn't mean he didn't sound great up until that point. And since the cancellation, he has stated that hes' recovering well.
VoidSixx I saw clips from the tour up to that point and there were definitely some issues.
You really should react to Howard Jones from killswitch engage
I second this
Rose of Sharyn Live at Wacken or any of the videos from Set This World Ablaze!!
Absolutely I couldn't agree with you more!!!!!
yEs
this is absolution
😍🤘 this one of my favorite bands and one of their greatest tracks in my opinion! Glad you covered it 👍😃🙃🙃
He is my favorite singer as far as vocal quality. Could listen to him sing all day long. Please do another song from them.
please watch any of grammy museum live of theirs. his evolution was amazing. (especially So Far Away or Roman Sky)
Amazing reaction! I've been waiting for you to react to Avenged Sevenfold.
I love that you used the Live @ The LBC concert. I wasn't there but my sister bought me it for Christmas in 2008
Wasn't sure when this was from and genuinely got a tingle when I saw The Rev on the drums. What a voice he had and what a monster of a player.
Man i heard that sustained guitar note leading into unholy confessions and i got chills when it didn't happen. This was such a good concert.
This band was SO underrated. M Shadows is a BEAST, Synister Gates is incredible, and Jimmy "The Rev" (RIP) was one of the best drummers I've ever heard. These guys should be remembered as one of the great metal bands of all time. I feel so bad that Shadows is having vocal issues, they give so much to perform their best, I hope they can get things on track! Best wishes to them!
Idk why everyone skips over Zacky
@@A7x6661and poor Johnny 😂
Thank you for doing M shadows, I've been requesting him for really long time. I hope you keep analyzing his voice. As many people suggested, God Hates us live 2011 rock am ring is the perfect example of his distorted voice at it's best.
Beautiful as always
He was my first celeb crush lmao. Especially in these days 😂 I think it was the muscle, voice, and tats. But in all seriousness he’s really underrated and overlooked because his voice is just different. I didn’t even read the full title of the video before I clicked 😂
His dimples thoooooo ❤️
Sameee! But everything, he's so f*cking perfect😍
can't remember when, but he had vocal surgery and then started to train with vocal coach, Matt actually helped Matt Heafy (Trivium) when he lost his voice couple years ago
OMG!
I've never been so excited to see a video
Great voice. looking forward to the new album.
React to Matt Heafy from Trivium couse he had a lot of vocal issues as well.
yeah because he screamed in a damaging way for years, honestly made it kind of awesome at the time
@@Rosterized i know that
Matt (a7x) actually reached out to Matt (Trivium) to use the same vocal coach as mentioned in this vid after his voice gave out.
Avenged sevenfold? Like before watching 😆
Seeing The Rev singing gave me chills and nearly brought me to tears. RIP brother
He initially had surgery in 2004-2005 which was about 3-4 years before this performance and started working with Ron Anderson directly after. He’s definitely had a lot of problems since and is still one of the most notable singers in modern rock/metal today. Great video!!
He had issues prior to this as well!! Their earlier work had more screaming from him but he had bad technique and it was starting to damage his vocal cords! He has definitely changed a lot from the early 2000's to now.
Live in LBC was their best live performances for me 🙌
Ive been wanting this for a long time
Omg, thank you for this version with the Rev on backups, it's not very noticeable but it makes a ton of difference for long time fans. Rip Jimmy
I am extremely nit-picky, and very protective of the "elite" metal bands, and I have to say that A7X (with the Rev, RIP) is one of the truly great metal bands in all of history. They are absolutely on the level of, if not a higher level than, Metallica in their prime. Every single aspect of their musicianship is other-worldly. They are SO underrated for what reason I can't tell. RIP the Rev, the best I've ever heard, going back to Led Zeppelin and the Doors.
I think it has a lot to do with their image and fans. The whole goth kid look from city of evil and before really pigeonholed them as scene kids to the metal community but I agree that they were/are more than that.
@@joshshultz1250 You could be very right
I think it's because of the time period they became big, and got lumped into all the other commercialized bands.
You said METALLICA??? Fam no. Not at all. Not close.
You should check Bent Knee. Absolutely amazing vocals there.
Singer's name is Courtney Swain. She's got power to burn.
My favorite band, so you popped up in my suggested videos, loved you're reaction. Something about your reaction and your voice is so calming though, anyways thanks for the A7X video.
Dude is amazing to me every note is a pleasure to my ears
Hands like houses - colourblind. This singer is amazing
Most wicked voice of 2000's!
Man I can’t wait for the first opportunity to be able to go see them live when they ever come to my neck of the woods. Passed up an opportunity years ago because I wasn’t really into them yet and now I’m kicking myself. 🤦♂️ please come to Eugene Oregon Matthew Knight Arena if you have not heard is absolutely amazing for any concert but especially rock!!! LFG!!! 💪
Beth, you're an absolute delight.
The first 2 CDs of avenged sevenfold were a lot of heavier and with a lot of screaming. That hurt a lot his voice.
Zheyres Trevellian probably one of the biggest factors was the voicy fry screamss from the first 2. It mustve been super rough
@@RacinUltimatum his screams on the first album were rough but the second album he had much better technique.
His voice is very strong and unique in Bat Country and Beast and the Harlot. It's some older songs and as a person in vocal music, his voice gets wild lol.
When I heard the Rev that hit me. I saw them live before and after he passed and I haven't heard this song live since he passed. Miss him rest easy man.
Love M. shadows and Avenged Sevenfold! Good review
This guy is the greatest metal/rock vocalist of our generation, probably he is going through some vocal problems right now, but hope he will come back with that signature guttural voice again 🤘
Hoping so🤞Im seeing them in Columbus in may😁
Please react to A Little Piece of Heaven Live at the LBC, it's the same concert like this one, but it's a masterpiece and you hear more of Jimmy (The Rev) their drummer. If you like dynamics it's a blast to listen and watch and espacially feel. Their greatest song ever
Beth you are freakin GORGEOUS
favorite song by them so gotta love it!
Please react to 'Royal Beggars' from 'Architects'. This band is absolutely incredible!
Yeppp... straight UK
You should watch Rev's part on A little piece of heaven. That part gave me chills!
Wow didn't expect this one reaction. Awesome!
One of the best things about good UA-camrs is consistent uploading. Thanks Beth for keeping it coming. Ggs
The drummer The Rev is who made me get into music RIP
I saw A7X live in 2018, and holy shit. How incredible they sounded. Its disappointing he doesn't have the vocal capabilities like he did in Chapter Four, but he is still incredible.
Probably one of the most underrated vocalists out there
Aww seen a flash of Rev! Keep R.I.P'n! Thanks for covering A7X! Didn't know Shadows had vocal issues. Fun watch!
Awesome analysis but I believe that you have the timing wrong with his vocal surgery and damage. He blew his voice out on tour for their second album Waking The Fallen due to his poor screaming technique in combination with his high singing. He had an excellent vocal coach since then and this is off of their 4th album tour. He has however, blew his voice again recently last summer I believe.
Thank you for pointing this out, I love Beth but a lot of what she said in this video is moot because she's assuming he hadn't had vocal issues or surgery yet in that performance.
@@alexgrover7693 I agree, I was also thinking that maybe she might have mistaken his natural grit for an issue. Or that this could have been at the end of a tour. I feel like there are too many variables involved to truly diagnose his technique (especially if this is her first encounter with Avenged Sevenfold).
I think there was an interview with a studio producer or something where he said the difference in his singing from Waking the Fallen to City of Evil was crazy and became one of the most technically skilled singers he'd ever worked with.
@@KTheStruggler Yeah! He actively chose to stop screaming. I think he told that producer that he did half and half on the last record and wanted to only sing for City of Evil.
I remember he got bullied by linkin park fans for covering chester during linkin park's chester bennington tribute concert, that's hurt, not everybody is understand vocalist's struggle to keep in great performance..
this very song is one of their only songs that i can't even sing all the way through. it's just too emotional for me which is beyond perfection
M Shadows actually had the cyst surgery and stuff before their 3rd album and this concert was after they had released their 4th album so this is his voice after the cyst. Last year (2018) he had vocal chord issues but she was talking about the cyst stuff and that happened years before this concert
You know, I've never been a huge A7x fan but they're pretty impressive live. You should try Killswitch Engage!
I saw them about 2-3 years back at Texas Mutiny. Stood in the same spot for 7 hours just to get right up next to the stage. Best night of my life, hands down. SUCH a good show.
Howard Jones on The End of Heartache seems to have that same balance that M Shadows has between the rough edged vocals and the smooth brilliant singing. Shoutout to Howard, a native Buckeye from Columbus.
React to So Far Away live at grammy mueseum 2018 for a little look at his techniques now
While an awesome show I can’t help but feel that particular performance of So Far Away was also his worst one of 2017. Especially compared to the performance in Hershey. An awesome performance nonetheless, just a few off notes
Dear God I now love you even more. Just watched the LINKIN park one more light video then here you come with my second favorite band who also have kept me in check throughout some tough times. Daannnggggg. Thanks for the respect.
