ABOUT…
I am Rebecca and I am one heck of a passionate vocal coach/singer/songwriter/impressionist/health/fitness/self- improvement/anything that makes me smile!! I love anything vocal/singing related and geek out on it every day. I want to motivate and inspire others to follow their dreams…corny? Well maybe but it’s true. So what’s motivating me?? I had a huge tumour removed summer 2017 and my ovaries and fallopian tubes. The tumour was the size of a 20 week baby!! However, despite not being able to walk for a couple of weeks, and feeling generally awful…. It has made me create and do what I love! It wasn’t an easy time but I won’t let fear dictate my life. I didn’t think ‘why me’, there are plenty of horrific issues people have to deal with…it’s not always smooth sailing. It’s true when you hear, ‘Life is short’, the crazy thing is, I am glad it happened…I appreciate life even more and practice gratitude everyday…It’s so easy to get caught up with the little things…and I do sometimes, but look at the bigger picture, will it matter in a year or two…?

Also this song was dedicated to their drummer, The Rev, who had died and with whom they had been friends since their childhood. So this was a very emotional song for them and 10 years later, they still choke up while performing this song.

In their first album, I always thought Rev was very overqualified for this band but he still gave it all for AS and made it work, and his blast beats were on par with Jordison's. Badass drummer.
I read somewhere that syn wrote this for his grandpa but they later decided to dedicate it to the rev.

I’ve never been the biggest metal fan, but I know good music when I hear it. I fell in love with this songs msg, even before understanding what the song was about. Almost 6 years later, I still almost tear up listening to it.
Anyone who say metal is just "noise", is an absolute closed minded person. I dont look like I listen to metal. But it speaks to me in a totally relative way, more then any other genre of music.
metal resonated way more to me. there are fun songs, there is about mental health, anger, sadness etc. all the raw emotions. just something nice to listen to.

Agreed. I was watching an interview where he explained that going into their second album he wanted to transition from just screaming to more well-written (musically and lyrically) melodies and harmonies. They would scream where they didn't know what else to do haha. They haven't let us down, even after Jimmy's passing (RIP). "Set Me Free" just dropped and it's really good, if you haven't heard it yet! 😊

I remember being a teenager and hearing about the Rev's death. I felt horrible about his loss after following him for so long. I knew Nightmare was going to be a deep album. When it came out, I was not disappointed at all. I remember hearing so far away for the first time. ForRever. M. Shadows is an amazing singer.

I remember exactly where I was when I found out. Me and my friend were playing basketball at his house and I checked my phone and found out. We had just gone to see them live a few months prior.

Dammit I miss Jimmy and this song makes me cry every time. My best friend Mark and I loved this band and he passed away not long ago, now I can hardly listen to my favorite band without breaking down and missing him. His parents asked me to pick the music for his funeral. This song was on the playlist.
Mark and Jimmy are chasing geese and jamming out now. Rest in peace to both of them.

I have a tattoo of handcuffs, with "The Rev" as part of the chain, with his birth and death days in the cuffs. Alt Press chose it as one of the ones they put in the Avengers special edition. 😊

This song always gets me so emotional. Hits me hard. Jimmy, the drummer, is one of my favorite drummers and one of biggest influences as a drummer, so this one hits home a lot for me. The vocal part at the end gives me chills every time!

My favorite is probably the live performance of A Little Piece Of Heaven on that concert. The moment when Matt sings the duet with the REV! Absolutely amazing!!!

The back up vocals that you hear in the chorus is Shadows. While playing live Synyster does the backing. That is one of the reason why Matt shadows is one of the most versatile singer of the 21st century, and unfortunately metal fans hate that. And loved the reaction 😁.
Synyster sings the backup vocals. You can easily hear it the vocal track for the song.

@@sirprisoner You can't compare studio to live. Some parts are harder to do on live and many vocal performances are quite different when their are live.

This is one of the songs I listened to on repeat for days while trying to overcome my depression. This band saved my life multiple times. And sing and feeling the emotions when seeing The Rev is beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time
I’ve never struggled with suicidal thoughts, but I can imagine that hearing something this emotional and relatable would keep me alive. If only for a night. I watched my som cry over this song when he was 3. He didn’t understand why he was so emotional, and it taught him a huge lesson. He’s a happy kid, and we just got home from Breaking Benjamin and Alice & Chains.
The background singing is "Rev" they added his voice to the song so he will always be in the song and music.

Fiction was not a “death note” nor a “suicide note”. You’re delusional if you think it is. Jimmy wrote multiple death-inspired songs throughout his career, the fact that Fiction was written shortly before his passing has nothing to do with that.
Fiction is no more of a “death note” than Save Me (“tonight we all die young”), Afterlife (the entire song’s death-related theme), nor Brompton Cocktail (literally named after a drink commonly used for suicidal practices).
Fiction is only a death note if you’re an idiot.
Edit: here’s a few more songs with death-related themes written by a7x. They’ve done it the entire time they’ve been together. Fiction being written before Jimmy’s death is entirely coincidental.

I've heard this song easily hundreds of times and still get a bit emotional at that crescendo. Less for the Rev (although still sad about his passing) but I had a friend back when who's no longer with me. RIP Keith Otterson, forever my friend forever loved forever missed.
This song is dedicated to Avenged Sevenfold’s drummer who died last 2009. RIP James Sullivan aka Sully. Gone too soon but not forgotten

Avenged sevenfold- Roman sky (live at the grammy museum) there you have the music stripped down to acoustic and Matt makes me get goosebumps everytime i hear it 💕
When Matt puts power into his voice it’s so...unique. I’m not a singer so I don’t know the proper terms to describe the sound but it’s so powerful.
And yes, Synyster Gates is amazing with the guitar lol.

Hahaha here I was, having lunch in public and watching this, thinking “it’s okay, the song won’t get to me this time” and lo and behold, I’m now in tears in public. As soon as he hit the “I love you, you were ready” I was done for.

YEEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!Like others are saying, I haven’t clicked on a video so fast before!!! Avenged Sevenfold is my absolute FAVORITE band!!!! If you can’t tell I am super stoked right now!!!!! Please cover more Avenged you will not regret it.....if you Witness the change in the lead singer, M.Shadows, voice you will appreciate it even more. He has had to have vocal surgery due to years of screaming during his early years, and has learned to manage his voice since then. From their sounding the seventh trumpet days until now it’s amazing how much they have changed yet still pull in some of their original sound. The back up vocals you hear are the guitarists and some of them are there late drummer. They have worked with string quartets, percussionists, brass, and various other types of musicians, they truly are amazing. They have many influences, a lot of bands that you’ve covered including Pantera. When Jimmy The Rev Sullivan died I was heartbroken, but they have honored their brother and now have a new drummer who he was a fan of and is an amazing drummer as well. I’ve seen them several times live and they’re the real deal, great group of guys. Anyway, sorry for the long winded post......carry on, nothing to see here, lol, except for the fact that YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

This song never fails to make me cry, I get exactly how they felt because I had to deal with he loss of my brother. He suffered so much. The song describes everything so perfectly. A7X one of my favorite bands. Thanks for your reaction to this song
I think the most hauntingly relevant line is “I tried to heal your broken heart with all that I could”...
The Rev was born with an enlarged heart, which would eventually had led to a terminal condition. A7X also has a song called “Brompton Cocktail” which foreshadows how he died.

I rarely ever cry but watching this made me cry, pretty hard too. A7x got me through a lot back in the day.
I would love to see you react to their best song which is "A Little Piece of Heaven". (Fair Warning) It's a gruesome song but there are so many vocals you can analyze in the song. The ex-drummer (Jimmy The Rev Sullivan... R.I.P.) and the lead singer (M. Shadows) did most of the vocals on it. It is a master piece that very few rock bands can pull off. They even had the other band members do back up vocals and had a choir come in. It's a dark but beautiful master piece that I feel you can grow to appreciate. Everyone A7X (Avenged Sevenfold) fan loves that song to their core. And I feel, you as a musical artist, will love it too! Hopefully you see this. :)

"A Little Piece of Heaven" started out as a simple melody on a piano from the ex-drummer. He was an incredibly creative soul who loved music with a passion. It took them many weeks, if not months, to get the song going in the direction it needed to go. But to have such a dark but master piece of a song like that come from someones mind is incredibly unique and creative! I hope this comment reaches you because the song itself is ten times better then the message. The song shows just how creative and unique Avenged Sevenfold is as a band and why they deserve to be among one of the best metal bands out there!
