  • There was a time when car buyers had no choice other than petrol and diesel. and hence, they had no confusion.
    But now the strongest emission norms and rapidly increasing Air Pollution have forced car makers to introduce better more eco-friendly options.
    But like for the environment are these options also good for your pocket?

      Few years back, we used to get 1.6l engines in normal hatchbacks, 2l engines in most mid range sedans. Now most engines are half of the size, and almost all of them are 3 cylinder models only. Why do car makers reduce the number of cylinders? Does anyone not know the less no. of cylinders in an engine, the more it vibrates. So why do these stupid things? Why can't they use 4 cylinder engines in all the cars available in India? Fyi Even the old Alto used to come with a 1040cc 4 cylinder engine, now only 3 cylinder vibrators are available in this car. It sounds so horrible, and the seat vibrations is so pronounced. What's your take on this matter? In India petrol and diesel will rule another few decades.
    When CNG was introduced it was thought to be a game changer but it is yet to reach every town in India and not many models of cars are available by different automobile makers. EV's has recently started gaining traction in some metro's but the range anxiety and lack of charging infrastructure poses greater risk. So overall petrol and diesel will rule for another few decade's.

    I'd still put cng on top because I recently bought swift cng and it's performance with cng is mind-blowing! That's because of dual jet technology! I've driven around 500 kms and it has given me a mileage of 27 in city and this without the first service! Also, remember that I travel with ac, but hardly any drag because of 1.2 litre engine.
    Another amazing part is that the bootspace is still not that bad, you can place clothes filled bags on the cng tank and around it. Also, it has removable tray, so more storage.
    Conclusion: cng is the best. If you get a chance to grab one, don't miss the opportunity.

      @c04-rhikbanerjee55 3 місяці тому +1

      I agree with your point regarding the number of cylinders. The refinement in 4 cylinder engines is just unmatched and it is good economically too. But as far as making forced induction and GDI compulsory is concerned, it will just make the engines less reliable and also will have a higher upfront cost (maybe with higher maintenance too). For example, GDI injects the fuel directly into the combustion chamber, so the cylinder liner design should be such that it should not only withstand that high pressure but also be extremely leak proof. PDI engines are just simpler and also have more mileage, which at least 60% of the population wants. Even with turbos, you have to deal with that initial lag if your pressure is too high. So city use is pretty cumbersome. Even the old cars which you mentioned had more displacement with NA engines instead of these tech. Hence were more reliable.
      So yeah if you’re a driving enthusiast who wants that adrenaline rush on the highways and stuff, go with GDI or forced induction car, but as for the majority of the population, they would rather be happy with NA.
      But yeah, both wouldn’t be happy with the 3 cylinder vibrations for sure😅

    • @traderbear6518
      @traderbear6518 3 місяці тому

      @@c04-rhikbanerjee55I will also take the large displacement NA engine, over a GDI engine, but problem is due to trend of downsizing, engines are becoming smaller day by day. Due to it being so small, NA engines are not able to make enough power, maybe that's why GDI and Forced induction came into the picture.

    Since lithium and other materials are recyclable from a battery more than 90%, it will help for the profit of companies. Moreover, the companies can use that recycled one in their cars.

      Before the genius brigade comes with “but bro thermal electricity”
      40% of electricity in India is renewable and only 60% is coal. By 2030, renewable will be in majority (>50%)
      Coming to the absolutely genius excuse of “battery production”, that must be compared to oil extraction from far off oil rigs in middle of sea, that uses pumps using diesel
      Then same crude oil is transported to land via huge tanker ships which also run on fossil fuel.
      Then the refinery where this fuel is refined also uses heat for fractional distillation which again comes from burning fossil fuel.
      Then this refined fuel is transported to depot using trains again diesel or electricity
      Then this fuel is transported to each pump using trucks again, diesel
      Once you count all these emissions from oil supply chain, the numbers for battery production will look tiny in comparison.

Let's keep the practicality aside for a while because that's one of the known drawback of EV and also agree that the running cost is low for EV, but the maintenance frequencies and part replacement are still much more higher than the non-EV cars. Excellent analysis in this video! The Old school Petrol engines have always been the most favorable among an average Indian Car Buyer, especially in Metro cities. Petrol engines are known for being way more refined that the diesel counterparts as well as in some cases hybrids. That being said, 10 year ban is very unlikely to apply to Petrol engines atleast for another decade or two, this being India and considering its huge popularity here.

    Bootspace ki zaroorat sirf sheher se baahar leke jaane mein padti hai. City ke liye CNG best hai agar running zyaada hai toh nahi toh petrol best hai. Bas sirf 2 options

    I have been using the Grand i10 NIOS CNG since Jan 2022 and I can say that I am more than happy with the low running cost of the vehicle. I can easily get a mileage above 20 km/kg in city conditions and between 28-32 km/kg in highway conditions. It's like driving car for which the cost of petrol is about Rs. 60/litre, which is impressive. It is especially practical for those who are doing long commutes in their two-wheelers and are afraid of the running costs of a petrol car. CNG cars with a small engine run at the cost of a 150-cc two-wheeler and give you a lot a comfort and safety. The only downside is the low power, especially when AC is turned on.

    Companies must release more & more models with hybrid tech.
    The instant torque provided by the electric motor gives an EV like performance while petrol engine enables fast refueling and long range. All of this with low emissions and better mileage

      Cheapest PHEV is ₹40L ie Prius prime
      And that’s without the high taxes they have in USA. In India it will cost ₹80L
      In 80L you can buy Kia ev6 GT with 500km range and AWD which is enough for long trips in EV
