No portions, no vodka recommendations, no... anything. "make sure you get a small bottle of soda, cold everything, and a lot of ice" isn't much of a how-to.

For vodka I prefer Russian Standard as it is the closest thing to neutral and odorless vodka you get without buying something expensive and exclusive.

Use a vodka that you like, as much as you enjoy. It's not that hard tbh.
Proportions and brands are very much up to the individual in question. Many would for example recommend Smirnoff, and I can't stand it (Stoli all the way), it's up to preference
The only way to be good at alcohol, is to try a lot different brands, so that you know what YOU like.

      1. Use a smaller glass around the same size as the one in the video.
      2. Fill it up with ice.
      3. Add your desired amount of vodka.
      4. Fill the glass up with 33cl bottled club soda.

For anyone who actually wants to make a good vodka soda (although I dont know why you would. It's the cocktail equivalent of plain toast) yes, cold soda water is important, I do recommend buying the little six packs. Get yourself a proper Collins glass. 10 maybe 11oz size max. Fill with good quality ice. No chip or pebble crap. 1.5 oz of vodka is standard. Some people like 2oz of liquor in their highballs and I think that's also fine. Anything above is just unbalanced. And top off with club soda. The Collins with ice and liquor should give you enough space for about 4-5 oz of soda and that's perfect. Garnish with your choice of lime or lemon.

The colder a liquid the more carbon dioxide can remain dissolved in solution. If you want it really carbonated use a seltzer siphon. One co2 charger will beat out anything from a plastic bottle, and two will singe off your nose hairs. For everyone wondering about proportions, it comes down to personal preference. I like to fill a double rocks glass with medium-large ice cubes, add 2 ounces or 60 mls of vodka, and top with soda.

It does make sense - cold water is better at dissolving CO2 than warm water, so everything should be done to keep the cocktail cold. The vodka should be in the freezer, the club soda and lemon should be pulled from the fridge, as much ice as the glass can hold should be used. And the glass itself should be pulled from the freezer. I like mine with a bruised mint leaf.
