Well stated Doug, and quite accurate.
All manufactures have that happen.
@@willsco76 Yeah but not like GM.

100% true. Leave it to GM to completely cheap out on materials at major touch points in an $80k vehicle.
Not accurate. GM is mostly crap. Not half and half. (I root for USA car manufacturers and I haven't looked at an "Merican" car in over 20 years. I couldn't tell you any I would buy, even if 10,000 or more less than rivals.)

I’m sure this is already in the comments somewhere, but I’m a GM employee, that “household outlet to 12v converter” is actually the Diesel engine block heater cord. Also, the plus and minus on the shift column is not for manual shifting. It’s a gear limiter. The transmission will not react as a manual transmission upon pressing those buttons (unless you just so happen to be pushing the buttons when the truck would shift anyway). Not trying to be a know it all, just wanted to shed some knowledge :)
I love it when a viewer is more informed then the UA-camer aka automotive journalist. And it’s not Just Doug almost 90% of the UA-camrs reviewers don’t do there research before review the cars

I cannot believe this thing lists for 80k. The 6 cylinder BMW X7 gets the same fuel economy, is much faster/smoother, and is about a hundred times nicer inside and out, and also lists for 80k. Unless you're towing things all the time, the Bimmer is such a better deal than this thing.
@@tren133 get ready for someone to attack you saying BMW’s are unreliable and you should just buy a Lexus instead, while they themselves have never owned a BMW *or* a Lexus...
@@Yaro2 Well Lexus actually are significantly more reliable, and that's why they sell a lot of cars. I don't think the BMW is that much more unreliable than a GM product though. And after owning a BMW, at least I appreciate that BMWs are extremely well engineered. You might pay more but you can tell their engineers took a lot of care when they designed each part of the car and you can tell when driving and using it. GM is like the worst of both worlds, they don't have the reliability of a Lexus, or the engineering of a German vehicle, and now it costs a lot too?
@@tren133 I agree while Lexus’ are more reliable, they just aren’t for me, and some people act like BMWs can’t get to 40k without having to replace the entire transmission, while I bet you 97% of all new BMWs can make it to 90k with basic maintenance...

We have 2010 Chevy express 3500 vans at work that are loaded down that get 22mpg on the highway. They have the 6.6 duramax
This is the engine to get in the Tahoe/Yukon/Escalade/Silverado/Sierra. I just drove a Yukon with this engine, and I really liked it. You can hear the turbo a little inside, it has great torque, and it got 27 MPG at 75 MPH filled with cargo. It’s fantastic, and the only thing I can say is what took GM so long to put a diesel in these rigs?!
I was wondering the same thing, I felt like Dodge/RAM dropped the ball with their eco-diesel v6 while their heavy duty cummins built engines were inline 6s, I feel like they should have just scaled down the cummins to about 3L and dropped it in the 1500, alas, they did not. When chevy dropped this new duramax I was impressed, for a company that primarily uses v8 diesels I think this is a step in the right direction for GM, inline 6s lend themselves to smoothness and with 2 less cylinders, could be more fuel efficient than a v8 of similar displacement, I hope chevy decides to scale this up to match the 25/3500 trucks...

Diesels are awesome. When I lived in Europe, I bought my wife an Audi Q7 with a 4.2l V8 twin turbo and that thing was filled with torque and was fast as hell for an SUV. Hey Doug! FYI, that cable you mention in the video, is actually the Engine Block Heater cable. It plugs into a port behind a hidden panel in the front bumper, to ensure the Duramax Diesel stays warm in colder climates. Also, the 3.0 Duramax is officially rated at 277HP.
You'll only need to plug this in if your in -20/-30 below zero. Duramax engines start real easily and warm up quickly in the cold. I have a Detroit Deisel in my work truck. It starts very easy in 25- 30 below here in VT.

Totally agree about the styling of the previous gen. Like the twin GM trucks (I own a 2016 High Country 1500 just to be transparent) I think that the previous gen triplet SUV’s looked traditionally GM but still modern. Somehow their overall design looked more current than the current gen, and they looked the luxury part in their highest trim levels. GM is definitely struggling in the style department at the moment. Watching Americans discover the fact that diesel engines can power normal cars too is fascinating.

"We worry about the emissions, so... LET'S PUT A DIESEL IN IT"
The diesel engines put out a lot less carbon emissions. The downside is that they put out a lot of NOX and the diesel particle filter is a massive headache.
@@rubensilvarocha diesel particle filter only causes headache if you're just driving short distances in the city where the exhaust system never gets hot ...When you drive longer distances or highways the exhaust system will get hot and the diesel particle filter will clean itself -> after about 20-30minutes of highway driving it should be warm enough to start regeneration and burn out the soot, you really should do that at least every few months if you have a diesel to avoid expensive repairs.
I'm european driving diesel for 10 years now and i never had filter problems but i know people who ran into that issue, diesel is unbeatable in long distances but when you only drive like 15minutes to work or shopping you better buy petrol.
