The Chevy Tahoe Hybrid was an awful SUV. Today I'm reviewing the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid, and I'm going to show you all of the quirks and features of the Tahoe Hybrid. Then I'm going to show you how the Tahoe Hybrid drives -- and I'm going to explain why the Tahoe Hybrid is such a bad vehicle.

Imagine renting your car to some dude and later discover that it received a proper roast on YT
Hehehehe
I can imagine worse things being done to my car
😭😂🤣
Neil they're privately owned vehicles put up for rent on the website. Its like air bnb for cars.
People rent through Turo because they have quirky, oddball vehicles. It follows that the owners not only know about the quirks but likely bought the vehicle for that reason.
Doug forgot the reason for the over the top "Hybrid Badging" was for parking. Every downtown in the East/West coast around 2008ish had "Hybrid Only" parking. This was to prevent the Prius crowd from double parking or slashing your tires in the special parking spaces.
I thought that's what a glock is for
Just don't park backwards...the front of the "Hybrid badging everywhere" Tahoe lacks front badges :-P
I have one it does not have the hybrid badge "kit" those side panel badges were an addon from the dealer and not a factory installed item.. this way the dealer CHARGES extra 300-400$ on it profit
I doubt a Prius owner would believe the badges
Oh i get it, I think you kinda need a lot of proof to convince someone you have a hybrid Chevy Tahoe.
There's a person about 2 blocks away from me who owns one of these. I've always wanted to ask about it but I'm scared to talk to someone who bought a Tahoe hybrid

If ya complaing about the fuel eco, do remember ya got a 5.6ltr V8. So not much smaller AT ALL than the Fat Bastard in the video above...
And.. if the fuel eco bothers you...
Ya coulda checked out a different vehicle like the Frontier..or any generation / year of the Murano, Pathfinder.. as they both gained weight...
Or any number of alternative / smaller of whatever type of vehicle.. you think you need / want.
@@SlidTossedPissed yeah I know and really I can't do anything because frontier is too small and the half ton is good for what I do which is roofing. For a truck though rides smoother than any other. And the power is needed on our uneven highways. 20 MPG for an SUV this big doesn't sound bad at all I think the Mercury Marauder got like 5 city with it's 4.6 V8.

I bought a 2008 Tahoe Hybrid back in 08 and still have it today. It's a great vehicle. I had the dealer take off all the hybrid stickers before I drove it off the lot. Still running strong.
How many miles??
@@jorgesaucedo6890 just under 100k.
Have you even had to replace the hybrid battery?
@@margaretconley2257 Since lithium batteries only last about 8 years (and are guaranteed 8 years max), it's a given that they did replace it. It also probably cost them more than the SUV was worth, hence why resale values on hybrids are horrendous.
Looking at a Cadillac escalade hybrid. The hybrid part is scaring me. Your battery still going strong?
Fuel efficiency?
Lets give it a v8
that's the AMC Gremlin line of thinking
a v8 that was actually bigger than the standard model nonetheless
GM didn’t want people to say that it’s performance was anemic like all the other hybrids were at that time.
They did the same thing with their electric offerings, for example the 2011 Volt which was a range extended electric (a type of plug-in hybrid) had 149 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque while the Cruze from that year had 138 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque.
And the all electric Bolt EV is a subcompact with 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque.
Also that Spark EV over the Gas one.
CIA Perfect logic.
When a gm car has it's reverse lights on and there's nobody in the car I fall for that every time
It is like gm is pulling a prank on us with the reverse lights
I've started ignoring GM reverse lights in parking lots until I see brake lights
That's actually done for safety and the timer for it can be changed on some models.
I used to, I have evolved. Look at the third brake light and if it’s not lit up, you’re probably safe.
That shit should be illegal.
6 LITER V8 hybrid 🤦♂️ Only GM could done something like that
Is it really that surprising that a body on frame SUV with a high towing capacity has a V8?
@@SethPowell7 no , but this was supposed to be a eco hybrid. Smaller engine( even 4.8 ) would more sensible when it comes to fuel efficiency.
@@RRninja-jq6lp No the 4.8 would have not stay in AFM at all 6.0 has more torque i threw out the power band to keep AFM longer there by saving fuel she can easily hit 30MPG on the highway (flat Florida-land though) I can get her upto 26MPG
typical is 25mpg for me on the highway but we have some hills though
@@punker4Real still pathetic.. might i posit one word? *hchhhm* diesel.
Only in America...
If you drive it right, you actually can save 7-10 mpg. This involves a lot of gentle pedal work, coasting to stops and pretending you're cornering on ice so you use regen brakes more and tire scrub less. But it works, especially if you idle a lot.
So if you drive it more economically, it’ll be more economic? That goes for every car. The point is that a hybrid is supposed to be more economical the second you start the thing. This isn’t.
And cruising button
@HunterJs2 I'll say my truck gets 12mpg on a good day. Driving slower/more economically I don't get any better mileage
@@reverandhale863 you have to accelerate slower and less frequently, the speed you get to doesn’t matter so much. If you top out at 30 mph but are still mashing the gas to get there and then brake soon after, you won’t get better mileage.

Important things to note:
1. The CD player doubles as the DVD player, so you don’t need to plug a separate one in.
2. You can tip the rear seats up to gain a flat floor minus a few inches at the front, where the seat sits. This prevents having to remove the seats all of the way. Speaking of, the rear seats can come out by pulling a lever.
tip the rear seats? can you sit on a folded up seat?
remove the seats? then why get a 7 seater if it cant carry 7 people?
thats what Doug meant
So... a few things.
1. That rear wiper is very broken.
2. The "coin slot" is where the 4wd selector goes, this one doesn't have it.
3. The turn signal stalk is really simple. If you just take 30 seconds to look at it, the pictures are very clear and easy to remember I love how consolidated the controls are so you don't have to go on a damn easter egg hunt when you want to wash your rear window...
4. If you just hit the lever on the 3rd-row seats, they fold themselves forward giving you a huge cargo area.
5. The removal of the 3rd row is not "quite a process". You just literally pull the handle. They even have rollers to help guide for installation and removal. A dog could actually do this.
6. I hope your bit about closing the liftgate was intentional, because I know you're not that dull. The strap is to help the vertically-challenged reach the actual handle. This is very obvious. If those are appropriate lifters, the gate should pretty much close itself once it's ~75% down.
FerventlyFree I love his videos but sometimes he just puts no effort into fact checking things
FerventlyFree shhh the fans might eat you alive if you point out the stupid bullshit he says
You know, he doesn’t care about his errors. It might just be a great strategy. The more engagement aka feedback, the more googles algorithms will suggest the video. Same with likes. Do you really think a youtuber cares what we say when they say, “ comment below if you would like .......?.?.? Nope. It’s all just for a bigger paycheck
Nathan Harris I get the impression that not doing a ton of research before hand and winging it is a part of his schtick/gimmick, rather then simple laziness/sloppiness. His reviews seem to involve a certain degree of winging it, where unlike other cars reviewers who carefully research every aspect of the cars, he appears to do only very basic background research on the car/truck he’s reviewing beforehand but doesn’t learn about every feature. Of corse this annoys some folks quit a lot judging by the comments on his videos, but I’m ok with him not knowing the everything about of every feature of the vehicles he reviews beforehand and sort of winging it but I can understand how that would bother some. It makes him more like average Joe reviewing pulled of the streets to review car rather what you’d expect from say Jay Leno, who wants you to know that knows the cars he talks about (especially those he owns).
Honestly the turn signal in those GM vehicles are extremely easy to use and basic. I have no clue what he was on about.
I bet the battery was actually only there to power the beer refrigerators and microwaves people actually wanted in these vehicles. But the battery was so big they were allowed to class it as a Hybrid.
Good point. Or even just a massive, booming stereo
Ben Mayall yeah they noticed their batteries were so big they could power an electric motor so they added them.
these trucks are awesome! would be so nice to have that Aux battery from the factory. just hook up a newer solar controller and solar panels and you are all set
It won a Green Car of The Year.... THIS won an award associated with economy and 'saving' the planet... Only in the US

Cars are NOT the problem regarding pollution. Big corporations that are deregulated and chucking toxic waste directly into the water, land and air, all around the world.... are what we need to fix.
The problem is governments WORK FOR big corporations and not its citizens, so instead of punishing, taxing and regulating big business, they turn around and say YOU and YOUR mode of transportation needs to be taxed and regulated and eventually they'd love to take away your ability to drive anywhere altogether (aka autonomous cars; who do you think controls the autonomous grid?).

Sadly, they do exist
Main issue about the Tahoe Hybrid is the pricing. Its not a terrible car, but it's not what you call very good value for money.
Exterior: freshly detailed
Engine: buried in Hoovie's backyard for the last year
Exactly😂 Soon as I saw it I said out loud, “who shit on it”
Except headlamps - they seem to be a bit tired...

Should have been included for the money. And the lifestyle

yeah, but then you realize you just took the cup holders out of your Tahoe at the junk yard because that's where they belong
User name fits lol
Yeah, I was thinking something along those lines, too --- there was enough room between cup-holder location-positions that you could **add** another cup-holder insert in that empty slots-space, as well as just moving the single existing cup-holder insert from one space to the other and back again.
1. The wiper in a Tahoe is not that loud, that one is messed up
2. 10:27 the "coin slot" is where the 4WD controls go, that one doesn't have 4WD
Beatking564 wait what controls??
The 4WD controls...the ones you use for "traction".
And the back seats can fold up once more to go flat against the 2nd row seats
And this Tahoe is pretty much base model. My 07 z71 has lots more than this one.
3rd row seats also fold up
I remembre the Top Gear staff laughing at the fact that it was “Green car of the year” in the US but it had a 6.0 L V8 😆
What’s your point? Pragmatically speaking there’s more benefit to hybrids like this than hybridizing already efficient small cars like the Prius.
Typical hybrid or electric car owners also own some sort of truck or SUV largely negating whatever benefit they think they are providing.
@@DrewLSsix It still gets terrible MPG. The non-hybrid is even worse, but that makes the hybrid green. Are people even driving something like this in a city much, where the hybrid actually makes a difference?
@@TheTrickfilmmaker people drive SUVs in the city all the time. As for this particular model? Probably actually.
@@TheTrickfilmmaker Do you even America comrade?
@DrewLSsix No, no there isn't. If they prius were not a hybrid it would get 36mpg. It gets 56mpg, a massive difference. That's 240 more miles per tank.
I score Doug's score a 0 out of 10.
I have a 2008 Yukon hybrid and I truly love it.
You turn off or adjust the exit lighting.
If you drive 10,000 miles per year, you'll save more $ that the hybrid premium in only a few years.
He makes fun of 4 MPG savings for about $9,000 price premium. This is thoroughly a red-herring argument.
The bigger 6.0L engine is needed when you're on the highway and it kicks into 4 cylinder mode - very good mileage, too.
If you can't fit your backpack in the rear, try the side door - you probably would use the side door with your car too.
The reason to get a Yukon is because you want a full-size comfortable ride for several adults.
If you you start with the H badging you'll have nothing to stand on.
The ride is quiet and soft.
My rear wiper motor - we'll I can't hear it - so it's the motor from hell for him .. and he didn't even bother to buy the vehicle.
Nobody ever complained about the passenger front foot room - ever.
The turn-signal all-in-one combo knob - it takes one day to learn it and remember - no different than most cars which have some sort of multi-combo knob.
I don't have a problem with the lit dashboard colors. Just drive it and the vehicle is smart enough itself. If you're hard on any car, your economy will suffer.
Taking the 3rd row seats in and out - no problem.
The rear door... we'll he made a comedy routine out of nothing. What a silly boy.
I won't watch any more of Doug's comedy shows - WHY?
1. He has no vested interest in the vehicle - which makes him mostly wrong in his assessment.
2. He doesn't use it for a long enough period of time to make a REAL list of problems.
3. He would never buy the vehicle (in this case a TAHOE) because he just isn't a Tahoe/Yukon kind-of-guy.
4. He makes fun and ridicules all the things which are not the reason the vehicle is a Hybrid.
5. He missed many of the other more important features or nice touches...for example:
built-in AC (120V) adaptor, tire inflater, backup camera, tow capability for the largest trailers,
comfortably seat 6/7 large adults, separate ventilation controls for rear seating, separate climate control passenger side.
super easy ingress/egress.

Let's get real I agree, my father had a red Escalade Hybrid, and it was really nice and comfortable, and I feel like the electric motor made it quicker.
This is really interesting, now I kinda want one. Doubles as a camper, sign me up
The problem is that the hybrid engine did nothing of what it's supposed to do.
It had pretty cool features tho I agree.
Still have one right now. The hybrid features have given no issues at all 215,000 km trouble free. But the GM 6.0L crapped a lifter and took out the camshaft around 145,000km. The vehicle is comfortable to drive and gets unreal fuel mileage it’s a joy to drive on a long road trip, gets around 800Km to a full tank of gas.

When comparing MPGs, percentage is a lot more relevant. Especially when the MPG numbers are in the low 10s - 20s region. A 4 mpg gain from 16 to 20 is worth so much more compared 40 to 44.
This. This is Doug's WORST ever take... Just so much stupid. A +25% gain in fuel efficiency for a big SUV is freaking HUGE!!!
Agreed, AR. Nobody bought the Honda Insight (a 2 seater that could get 70mpg). Everybody buys trucks and large SUVs. Even a so-so effort on two mode hybrids on large vehicles will save more gas and cut tailpipe emissions far more than 60mpg microcars ever will.
In the end, GM was trying to sell these to people who otherwise would have bought an H2 or an Expedition. With cylinder deactivation and a mild hybrid system that allows for short trips on electric power alone (around town, anyway) these vehicles were far better options than many people think. I agree with doug on the weird badging though. Just strange.
A 2007 prius only gets about 25% better mileage highway than a 2007 corolla. It got about 50% better MPGs in town, though.
Even still, figuring 3 bucks a gallon you'd have to drive more than 225K miles, all in the city, before you'd ever make up the cost of the thing. A 2007 prius was ~ $7k over a corolla, that pays off in ~140K miles.

You could actually have the kids listening to the dvd with headphones in the back while the parents listened to the radio in the front seats all with the same stereo from the dash. 2nd, You could fold the third row seats up towards the middle row without removing them to give you a much larger load area in the back. Same in the suburban.
And the Avalanche had that too!

It was actually a compliance vehicle and was sold to the public, but many did end up in government fleets because they were sold at a big discount and were better than fuel. I know NYC bought a bunch, with quite a few for the NYPD non-patrol units.

He looked like a dude in an infomercial that was mentally incapable of holding a popcorn bowl without dumping it on himself, the couch, the floor, and the ceiling fan. That would look far too normal and dignified for Doug.
I think it's funny how GM included something like this in their other vehicles too. I have a second-gen SAAB 9-3 sedan from the GM era, and even though the whole car is low and the trunk lid doesn't go that high up, they put a handle on the inside, on the passenger side, that you can pull on to close the lid. Even though you could just.. push the trunk lid down normally with little effort.
I guess the idea was to use it if the back of the car was dirty?..
Yeah, Doug would rather tell us how stupid it is than tell us the proper way to use the tailgate handle. It's pretty typical of him.

His scoring system is ridiculous. At the time this vehicle came out, it was a bit unusual to have rear TVs and they were the rage. From me, it would get a 6 out of 10 for features. Doug's scoring is also unfair as he ranks cars based on whether they have an infotainment screen --
on vehicles made in the 1980s and 1990s! In one video, he reviewed a luxury car that cost over $250,000 and rated it only 3 out of 10 on features because it didn't have a CD player or infotainment screen (NEITHER of which were in vehicles at the time!). His credibility permanently dropped after he aired that video. I no longer look at the ranking system after he reviews each car. What next? He gives a car from 1977 (he does review cars from the 70s and 80s every so often) a 1 out of 10 for lack of a touch screen and satellite radio? LMAO.

Jacob Fink there goal is to make more money
Jacob Fink that’s why it has terrible cargo space, so it makes you buy a suburban
Matthew Gamer 7000 Shouldn’t have had a third row to begin with, that’s why it’s so bad. They tried to cram a third row in the smaller Tahoe just so they could say it has a third row. It’s all about marketing
Matthew Gamer 7000 No. The Acadia/Traverse/Enclave is a 3 row Crossover and the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Yukon XL/Escalade/Escalade ESV is a 3 row Truck. A 3 row Crossover is different than a 3 row Truck. If you want to get a SUV that rides like a car, you get a 3 row Crossover like the Acadia. But if you want a SUV that rides like a Pickup Truck, you get a 3 row Truck like the Suburban. And that’s why some 3 row Trucks have more space than the crossovers. Just saying. 😅

The wheels are magnesium, they are so the static electricity from the road friction doesn’t fry the hybrid system, I work for Chevy and had to take a course on it
Interesting. So, no aftermarket wheels?
Tim Bennett prolly not
That doesn't seem to make sense. I could be wrong. But the tires are rubber, an insulator. The wheels are magnesium, a metal and a conductor. The electrical conductivity of magnesium is between iron and copper. Now I'm assuming they would be magnesium alloy so that would affect conductivity but not much. Magnesium alloy wheels are lighter than many stock wheels, which would help reduce the the rolling inertia of the wheels on a vehicle meant to gain more efficiency. I don't know that other hybrids and electric cars use the same wheel material to deal with static electricity from the road. And since cars have relied on computers for 30 years now, I don't see why a hybrid would be any different.
Rabon Ragan steel belted radials... and if you didn’t get it your tires have steel wire in them
