I know nothing about outboards. But couldn't you blow a little compressed air up the water intake to make sure there's no crap in there. Just curious. Great video. Thanks
Youre not wrong but results would be inconclusive. Theres a split in the water jacket which diverts water from the main coolant passage over to the tell tale, so one or the other may be blocked and air will still go through. Also, if the thermostats are cold and closed, the main passage would be blocked anyway. I have used compressed air to clean out the system, but the best way to check that its all clear is to run it
Outboards can be surprisingly durable. I've got an old British Seagull that sat in the water for 10 years, traded an old sail cover for it. Tore it down and knocked some rust off the square driveshaft. Still runs fine. I've recently been thinking of picking up a late '50s/early '60s boat to restore. I'll be keeping an eye on your channel.
Love the video. Makes me want to take our motor apart and look. The in laws bought a 2008 pontoon with a four stroke motor that looks considerably older. Water comes out the port but still curious. It's been 3 years and we havnt replaced it at all.
Do you have to put silicone or a gasket between the two halves( where the lower unit meets the six inch section that makes it into a long shaft)??? is water allowed in the lower part?
If i come across one I'll definitely make a video, I have worked on them but they are hard to sell so I dont go looking for them much. Really cool machines tho
great vid. would like to see one on the evinrude 88hp. I understand they are a pain in the ass. Thanks your are doing a great job.
