My friend and I live in fire areas. We joked about learning to hot wire a boat if we have to evacuate and the roads are blocked. So thanks for this video. I'm wondering where you live. It looks beautiful.
Its not a bad idea bro, this video was shot when I lived on Maryland's western shore, and I thought similar things from time to time. Being so close to DC, the thought of a terrorist attack was sometimes in the back of my mind, and I always thought that when i-95 invariably clogs up from fleeing citizens, I would take to the water and cross the chesapeake bay to the eastern shore. So that was our plan, and I kept these jump kits nearby. Today I am retired and living in europe, so I dont think those kinds of thoughts anymore, but nevertheless its a good skill to have

Well so the answer is that it depends. One some sizes and years, they are normally on, and spark is only interrupted by the kill switch. On other years you have to turn the motor on by making a connection, and then the motor is killed either by the kill switch or by turning the motor off. As I recall, if the motor needs to be turned on at all, it is done by attaching red/black to purple, and then yellow/red is the starter

All the engine electrical components checked out ok. But still no spark. The wires to the control have all been chopped and ripped out. Tried to hot wire it. No good.
The neutral safety switch in the motor works independently from the controls. Basically it supplies either ground or power to the starter solenoid, and allows the starter motor to turn over. It does not directly affect creation of spark. Some remote control boxes also have their own neutral switches, but that is bypassed by creating these pigtails. If I were you I would obtain a replacement wiring harness rather than trying to hotwire the motor. They are cheap on ebay

Some motors are all the time hot, and fire just when they get turned over by the starter motor, and then are killed by the key switch when you turn it off. Some motors you have to turn them on to produce a spark. I dont know on yours its probably worth getting a wiring harness and a switch, you'll need it anyway on the boat
Thats not an unreasonable question but I do have some good reasons. First, in this industry it makes a lot of sense to buy during the winter and sell during the summer, so I have been collecting motors all winter and now they are just starting to sell. Also there are lots of variables that customers are looking for: 2 stroke/4 stroke, shaft length, horsepower, tiller/controls, many people are very brand loyal. So having a diverse selection makes me more likely to make the sale. Also my dad ships me down a lot of motors to sell for him so a lot of these are his anyway. With these things just sitting up on stands they dont take up a lot of room and they certainly dont require any resources, so they arent wasting any money just sitting there until they find a new owner, so there isnt any efficiency wasted. All told I would be happy to have ended the winter with twice the inventory that I have now; at the rate this spring is going so far I'll be sold out by June
@@mrmaxstorey Sounds good The wasted resource is your capital that is being used up on motors that are sitting in your yard., capital that could be out getting returns.

@@mrmaxstorey I HAVE A MERCURY 50HP /2005 2 STROKE OUTBOARD , I HAVE PUT A NEW STARTER / SOLINOID /ALL IT DOES IS TICK WHEN I TURN THE KEY SWITCH
@@TERRYSMITH-vu6er bummer
I take it back the plug does not look round it looks like it is square but it takes a Male plug-in
Some motors are all the time hot, and fire just when they get turned over by the starter motor, and then are killed by the key switch when you turn it off. Some motors you have to turn them on to produce a spark. I dont know on yours its probably worth getting a wiring harness and a switch, you'll need it anyway on the boat
are you done with bike videos?
Pretty much
@@mrmaxstorey :( I miss them
Would you make and sale me one for a mercury 120 force
sorry i have retired
I want to send you some money (for the value of the motorcycle videos to me) -- What is the best way?
Did you sell one 8 pin for mercury?
I'm trying to bypass my kill switch so I can turn my 88hp evinrude over
Why are you buying more motors than you can output. Your inventory management seems to be alittle inefficient if you have that many jobs pending.
@@Trenttabor see above answer...
@@smwrbd I did see it. The cost of the motors is capital that is sitting idle. Theres a term called velocity of money, look it up.
@@mrmaxstorey How is your business going? I've considered trying something similar on a much smaller scale. Love your videos. Cheers from Australia.
