No I wasn't surprised as I got sick of hearing him insult the movie long ago! And I don't wish to speak about his role in "Beginnings" much like Julie Andrews in "Victor Victoria"! One role nobody mentions, which he was really good in playing was King Herod in the EPIC movie 6.5 hours long, "Jesus Of Nazareth" 1977. Why isn't this mentioned in any tributes, because it is a Biblical movie? Likely!
I was so distraught over his publicly pronounced dislike of the "sacchariny sweet" movie I wrote him a post card and mailed it to the theater. He was, at that time, starring in a production in New York City. Not long after I mailed it, he came out in public-- to proclaim a sudden change of heart! And to my great delight, he started particpating in things and discussions related to the movie. What did I write? I wrote that for kids of the era and decades after who were in homes and living situations not so ideal, movies like TSOM were a wonderful distraction and happy maker. In other words, sort of like vets of war who saw real war don't wish to discuss or relive through film or otherwise, same thing for kids who lived through trauma. They crave the opposite! It gave happiness to us to watch him, as well as the others, in their roles! All so very important!! It thrills my soul to think I might have played a part in changing his mind and views on the subject. Too bad he didn't participate in more of those type productions! I can't think of anything better than making happy smiling kids!
Never gave a bad performance and made some bad films worth watching. So glad he chose acting as his profession so I could witness greatness. Farewell and God speed. RIP. 😞🥂🙏
Christopher Plummer had a WONDERFUL voice that was perfect for acting on stage, movies as well as voice acting. I shall remember him always as General Chang in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," The Archbishop Hume in the movie "Possessed", Sir David Maxwell-Fyfe in the movie "Nuremberg," as well as the Narrator for the cartoon series "The World of David the Gnome" and "Madeline." So here's to you and your wonderful life Christopher Plummer as you said so many times in Madeline, I think it sums things up nicely. "That's all there is, there isn't...anymore."
Christopher Plummer has always been just a wonderful actor. Sound of Music is the best movie that I saw in my youth and it was one of the first dates that I had with my future husband.
The Sound of Music was a masterpiece . No one but Christopher Plummer could have essayed the role of Baron Georg Von Trapp in that film. He set many a female heart aflutter with his dashing good looks, his curt mannerisms and later on in the film, as an affectionate father and husband. Plummer will be sorely missed.
I never understand why he disliked the Sound of Music. He gave an excellent performance in the film, and I was surprised and disappointed that he wasn't nominated for Oscar that year ! In fact, the Sound of Music made him and Julie Andrews famous internationally.
Is "The Silent Partner" the one where he kills a woman my submerging her head in a fish tank then used the ragged glass until she died." If so, I saw that movie long ago and, iirc, in a theater.
@@bazoutofhell8293 One of my favorites as well! WHOA!! No idea Christopher Plummer was in it. Just watched the trailer and no can't understand how I missed him. Plan to watch the movie again.
7:25 "...or about his dislike of the film The Sound of music"? He clearly said he liked the movie, but he wished he wasn't remembered so greatly for only that achievement, which is one of many. Get your narration facts straight before putting out false facts.
In an interview in 1982 he clearly started that he didn't dislike the movie, he vocally said he loved the movie though it's not his favourite one but he didn't dislike it. Please make thorough research before making a presentation.

Apparently, not all of the songs or singing by the captain was dubbed. They managed a type of amalgamation with his actual voice and Bill Lee. Mr Plummer says as much during an interview.
REST IN PEACE, Christopher Plummer, you will always be remembered & loved as Captain Von Trapp from the Sound of Music. Thank you for the memories.... Another Legend gone....You Will never be forgotten, You are already missed by Millions..... 🥀🌹🥀🌹🥀
La vieillesse est cruelle! On ne reconnaît plus le beau garçon de "The sound of music" épris de la novice qui vint s'occuper de ses sept enfants, avec tellement de douceur et de charme, pour leur apprendre la musique et les aimer.
Gah! Another of my favorite films I didn't recognize who was him!! I've got a lot of re-watching movies and, since Roku no longer produces the device I used with no flaw for years, had to buy a new one. Only get the "No Signal" message. Purchased an Amazon Fire stick - same thing. After trying all suggestions by Roku staff and other users of Roku, my aging TV does not have it and it's apparently integral to Roku/Fire Sticks.
Christopher Plummer famously once described acting with Julie Andrews in "The Sound of Music" as being akin to "Being Hit over the head with a Valentine Day card...Repeatedly..."!! LOL
Did you give Christopher Plummer a moment of quote about his biggest regrets? Your narrative took so long to get there that I was forced to move on. I came here for him, not you.
It must be wonderful when your fame can get you really cheap labour from Irish institutions as housekeepers and child minders courtesy of the Roman Catholic Church who were more than likely paid for the services given the expose's of the sale of the adoption of babies from the Magdalene Laundries!!!

A divine actor!!! I love his work, especially in “The Sound of Music” and “Dreamscape”.
He thought the Sound of Music was a bad decision, but then afterwards he regret what he said about it. Great actor! Rest in Peace!
He called it ‘Sound of mucus’ but I understood he always felt that

I watch the Sound of Music times and again for Christopher Plummer, Julie Christie and the family .
It's Julie Andrews.
For the record: his singing voice was dubbed throughout The Sound of Music by folk singer, Bill Lee.
In 1978 he played in a movie called The Silent Partner he played an absolute badass if you get a chance check this movie out it was incredible
