I actually found out that liesl (his older daughter in the movie) was attracted to him and he said the feelings were mutual but never acted on it. (That was in her autobiography she wrote)
I'd say he admires and worships her, but not "loves" her in the carnal sense. Still - they are both Hollywood royalty (a dying breed) and should be venerated as such.

Rest In Peace, Christopher Plummer. I surely fell in love with this film at a very young age. I was 5 years old when he sang EDELWEISS It truly meant so much to me because I am Austrian. And that flower means so much to us Austrians. And Julie Andrews meant so much to me because of the beginning sequence Hills are alive with The Sound of Music. And Do Re Me Fa So La Te Do, we sang that song through out our house. I love the children in the film like Angela Cartwright etc. I have fond memories. So Thank you, Christopher, for being the Father figure too look up to. You surely will be missed by me and many followers. God Bless You!!

That was lovely, unabashedly lovely to see the two of them together, at that point, having their lives, careers, and that one eponymous movie in perspective. (But seriously Ben - Benny - to address those two esteemed, iconic actors as "you guys"...and say it more than once?!? Basta! Then again, at the end, I think you showed yourself to be a true fan, in which case, well done.)
Julie is the number one reason I discovered the Sound of Music nearly 20 years ago. Yet, I’ve now revisited the movie 5 times since the Pandemic hit. The first of those occasions was a month or two after Christopher died. So it was both an Easter themed viewing and out of respect for him. The love story between Maria and Georg is one of few reasons I come back to the movie once in a while. Mostly during the holidays!
