LITTLE PUPPET WITH A BIG DREAM
Aren't we all?
Aye!
why did it take me until the 8th saucy secret to realize he's the little puppet
I felt that bro
I just started using Ableton live 11 suit and your videos of help me a long way thank you
Expander as transient shaper...mindblown.jpg. thanks ried.
You're a genius
you're an og for this Reid. thank you
I always feel like I'm back in school whenever I'm watching these
you are ;)
Hey ried how can reduce the gain of particular part of the track in logic pro x?
first time i say first
Greg Lassierra there’s a first for every first
@@ReidStefanMusic lmao waiting this tutorial it's look like awesome ! you are a genius man
*Who else is a Beginner here and doesn't Understand shit? I Feel like my brain is crawling* 😪😫😫😫😫
Lol
That moment when you realise you are making eye contact with a puppet... lmao
This is like church
i'm the puppet pope
amen
@@ReidStefanMusic just finished the vid and had my jaw dropped the whole time THIS VID WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED NOW currently trying to mix vocals for my EP but didnt have a clue about compressing. This vid is like mana to me Thank you Reid, hope you have a BIG Mansion waiting for you in heaven. I literally learnt more from you than from my 4 years in Uni ( I had to make sure I was subscribed on my 2nd account too haha)
already filming these tutorials from my house in heaven! Thank you for watching my friend :)
Mey the pope bless us with his knowledge!
That expand function before the actual compressor was a plot twist. Thanks for sharing knowledge reid
Can someone explain what the point of doing that is? I don't understand why you would want to make it more dynamic just to compress it again?
@@jorrharris as far as I understand you saturate the peaks with the expand option so when the second compressor happens, you create a subtle distortion, which enhances the transients and adds more warmth. That's my best guess
Mr Stefan, could you possibly explain why you used an expander to accentuate the vocal dynamics before using the compressor to control them please? Aren't you making the compressor work harder by doing that so you have to use a higher ratio on the compressor to level the performance? sorry if this is a noob question.
In each video, when the puppet goes "ay" that's always one of my favourite parts of these (apart from all I'm learning)
Hey ! I follow your channel for many years but never really worked with vocal before. Now I have to learn this in a short amount of time, and
so far, you are the best (really), your channel is a goldmine ! So many awesome and clever tips in it, even your explanations are rock solid (I say that as a teacher myself)
Thank you a thousand times, cheers and love from France !
So grateful for this! Could we possibly get a video on how to actually record vocals this good in our rooms? I know i ask alot but man you’re the realest puppet in the game! make that wish come true lol you and Karra can do it together!
I second this
Vocals are hard to record. All about the microphone and the space you record them in.
Thicc Shag rug on the floor and thicc acoustic foam covering most ceiling / wall surface are necessary to get the cleanest sound out of any recording gear. I also preamp, low cut, and lightly compress my mic with the analog gear in my studio tour video 🤘🏻
Reid Stefan 🙏🏽🙏🏽 Thanks for blessing us. I’m doing all those things with my apollo in terms of preamp then lo-cut and compression but definitely going to add that ceiling foam and rug!
Just Dez make sure the acoustic foam is about 4” thicc cuz those 1” thin grey egg carton looking squares that are sold cheap will barely help your acoustics! Also those curved shields that wrap around the back of the mic will not solve any acoustical problems even tho they claim to! 🤷🏼♂️
Its my bday and wow this was bday gift to me. knowledge is the best gift!
Reid, your tutorials are amazing! I learned so much, even after many years of using and discovering Ableton!
Realest puppet in the game!!! Love ya! 💚💛❤️
Seen tons of compressor videos but this is by far the best and most understandable vids. God bless.
Which is the best compressor vst that you use the most, and is fabfilter pro c2 better than waves CLA-76?
Reid: "I'm also gonna do some pretty extreme, Aayee!"
Me who didn't hear any difference with multiple stacks: that's Hot😶
Really helpful. Amazing explanation of what everything does and how what you are doing affects the outcome and the mix. Thank you Reid!
My brother use this program amd play 24/7 fortnite. Thanks !
wouldn't creating a group within another group apply the parallel compression twice.....?
Can someone explain why he uses expansion compression only to compress it back with rms compression right after?
Reid, been wondering where can I listen this beat, that is used as example in Ableton ABC series?
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIt's Production time ... I love that
haha
WHY ISNT THIS SONG ON SPOTIFY REID. I’ve watched too many of your videos and it’s stuck in my head all the time
you can build a deesser with freq splitting (solo in m-Band) and isolating the freq around 5k+ and set a compressor on it. sidechain on the band you created (use bpass around 5 k with high q) . you can save it, it should readress it's sidechain input to itself(if not save the track asproject and drop it in. there you go
THANKYOUUUUUUUUU FOR THE EXPLENATION AND MAKING ME LAUGH
Just found your channel. Seriously I can’t thank you enough for the content you create. Very clear and easy to follow. I have been binging your videos for the last 24 hours. Well done mahn. KANGZ
I have always added a compressor on a send track, threshold up full, attack fairly high (70% to 80% cranked up) and release completely down. Then the same type of compression is easy to adjust onto any track you are using.
Nice work man. Another great one.
Can you please tell us how are you recording audio and the screen of your pc at the same time?
Are you using voicemeter or something similar? I cannot figure out how to
do it. I'll be forever grateful for this if you could answer back.
On Mac I use Screenflow 8 to screen capture audio and 4K video. I haven’t found a good screen recorder for my windows computer yet
I got Ableton Live 10 Lite! I got it when I bought my Scarlet Focusrite 6i6! and it looks like my Pro Tools first is no longer available but I've been using Garage Band to start off learning but I think I'm ready to switch DAW's to really get those Nice vocals. The automation in GarageBand is so tedious and I don't feel like I have much control. I really do like how big the digital library is GarageBand however I must expand my skills in music production!
If you're looking for good vocals you should probably switch to a better AU than a Scarlett. That line has terrible preamps. Yeah, good mixing and mic quality can save your vocals somewhat, but not nearly as much as just having good quality audio to begin with.
your the man.... that was super saucy!! thank you so much
Realest Vocal Compresssor Tutorial In the game!
Dang these were greaaaat. I don't have Waves plugins for vocals this is extraordinarily handy.
i get really into this video and than i realize im looking a puppet talking to me about vocal compression lol
How do you copy paste compressor setting like that?
I love that song and this video was uploaded on my bdy
ni modo toca seguirlo usando pirateado igual que toda la suit de adobe jaja
gsus all these videos are just perfect kkkkkk
I love this!!!!!
Keep posting plzzz
bro help i cant find detune and transpose area at the start/
it worked! thank you so much!!
haha love the puppet based view lyrics lol
Why Microphones are you using ?
Welp. This was the first of your videos I have seen. . Looks like you're my teacher from now on mate. よろしくお願いいたします!
My man is not showing a process, he is teaching me how to use the DAW and what happens when I do something. This is what I have been needing.
thank you for sharing this with us!!!
thank you so much dude you're a god
Reid is truly the master of puppets. Thanks for this tut!
When you said "let's do a higher ratio" at 5:58 the clip cuts and the Attack jumps up like + 18 ms, Just curious
thanks helpful vid
super helpful - many thanks
2:19 was that on purpose? :D
Awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. I just love your every video content. God bless you!!!
I'm taking vocal compression tips from a puppet with the most compressed VO I've ever heard.
*I CAN HEAR YOUR STOMACH THROUGH YOUR THROAT DUDE*
It was 12:00 for me ✊🏾💯
im simply amazed by how serious i pay attention to the puppet.. like how i look at his mouth like he's actually talking to me.. I even go "Oooh, you make a lot of sense puppet guy Reid!" lol love the info man! Thank you!
You clearly know your compression, but with this obvious unnatural auto tuned vocals as the starting point who knows what you’re accomplishing here. I’m sorry, but this is more like epic T-bone vocals 😜
Ableton doesn’t have a de esser?!?! 1985 called and it wants its DAW back.
Lets say you only have one vocal acapella part which is off beat.
Should I warp my vocals before de-s'ing and debreathing everything or the other way around?
I have also noticed that warping affects the vocals in a weird way if they aren't cleaned up beforehand - Is that my answer?
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL
WOW, that expander trick was so helpful, thank you!
432hz tuning?
What's the point on putting the expander before RMS comp? :/
Isn't the make up gain supposed to compensate the gain reduction value rather than the threshold value?
Trying to find the line between cleaning up and too much compression/glue. Downloaded your Sauce VSTs for vocals and guitars, not sure if I am doing too much at this point.
Question for the Lead Vocal chain, its possible to save that compressor chain (separate ones as well as the grouped ones) as one single Audio Effect Rack for later use right ? Would be super duper to just slap that effect rack on the lead vocal track in every single project you know, saves time!
Worked, thx
These video’s are so friggin helpfull. Thanks a bunch. Pz from the Dutch
Thank you
Since my childhood I know that puppets can learn you more stuff than human.
wow I just finally learned how to use the ableton compressors after about 6 months of trying to learn how to mix, damn I love this puppet
Thank you for your complete and comprehensive training. Very good!
just noticed today that the little lap top is actually working aways thoug reid wasnt really a puppet but a person behind the cameras wtff
Thank you so much!!!
The Multiband compressor could have been used for de-essing
great content
Thanks man! Super easy tutorial to follow.
The song you're using sounds sick, have you released it yet? Great stuff man :)
So the secret is to use 3 compressors in a row. Basically compress the hell out of it. Got it!
Excellent tutorial. I'm new to Ableton so this is great.
( I don't get the puppet yet. )
Ya blow my mind! Thank's saucy!
very saucy
Serious value here and the Lead Vocal Sauce is well worth the price, thanks Reid!
I'm here learning how to use a compressor in abelton by a puppet.. not weird at all haha
Have you seen the new Adam Sandler stand up? I swear it sounds like you ghost produced the "cell phone, wallet keys" song
Omg thank you so much!!! Such great help!!!
Another dope video my guy, keep running! This tutorial is on point
Good
These are some of the videos i came back over time to see how much i learn and experienced myself
ty man
I've been producing for 2 years and this video taught me some new tricks lmao thanks
I had to stop and breathe after the expander as transient shaper thing, GENIUS!
always learning so much...from a puppet
Reid, thank you so much for the knowledge! You'll transcend through our music and lives! Our best vibes for you directly from Yucatán, México!

That compression trick is amazing. Smoothing out the loud parts.
Was anyone confused? What is the difference between adding those insert compressors vs the parallel compression? and did he end up just adding those background stacks to the same parallel compression? why not group the background vocals and then process the group track , instead of individually? Clarity would be super appreciated, been having trouble with my vocals for awhile.. Thanks guys.
I use insert compression to take down the loud parts, and the parallel compression brings up the quiet parts. For background vocals I put insert compression on each layer individually, then parallel compressed the whole BGV group together. Hope this helps! 🤙🏻
Yo this is dope really love your work. As a Full Sail Grad I truly appreciate this!
