    My bros told me my beats were sounds extra dope and asked if I did something to them. I told 'em I'd been taking a crash course on disrespekt from a hand puppet on the Internet. They seemed pleased with my explanation... Keep on keepin' on Reid!

    I found out i spent less time eq vocals since i started implementing vocal recording techniques. Like you said, the vocals mix themselves up.

    That last tip did it for me. This swing thing is the last thing i needed for my song to sound musical. I’ve been mixing songs that just sound rigid for years and was never happy with the result. Thanks a load.

    As someone who has been in Logic for years and is finally moving over to Ableton these have been CLUTCH. Recording vocals has been a pain in the ass in Ableton but that's only because I didn't know of all these Ableton-specific approaches!

    • @ReidStefanMusic
      @ReidStefanMusic  5 років тому

      I usually set up a loop around one part of the song, record 5 takes, then expand that clip out (pulling the edge to the right) afterwards and cut the long recording into 5 stacked clips on new channels so i can comp between them easy or just leave them as finished stacks

    #6... mouth declick. If you listen really carefully you can hear a slight pop every now and then from the vocalists mouth. You should get rid of them. They can become much more pronounced when working with reverbs, delays, most time based effects. The really short and fast transient can also influence your dynamics. In Pro Tools you can go through and manually draw out what looks like a little barb sitting on an otherwise smooth waveform. If you have a vocalist who's been eating peanut butter and smoking blunts, Izotope makes a mouth declicking tool that works wonders even at its default settings. There's a few spots in that track that need fixing.
