Selma - "All Out of Luck"
For me and the rest of Iceland, Eurovision 1999 was all about Selma and her happy and incredibly catchy pop song “All Out of Luck”. It's easy to call it one of the most modern songs in the competition, and it made us something we had never understood the concept of being before; hot favourites. When Iceland were touted as possible winners across the board, the whole country went into pre-Eurovision euphoria. A major TV outlet sold out under the promise that if Selma won, every TV bought on Eurovision day would be refunded. There was very little to shake our hope; “All Out of Luck” is a super-catchy and uplifting dance pop ballad, and it was very well presented on stage. This was the one time (so far!) when we realistically could've won, and you wouldn't believe how crushed we were when we were eventually beaten. But this is still one of our best entries ever, and one the Icelandic nation is still very proud of.
My winner for 1999! Still love this song! Greetings from Greece!
I still love it too
Mine 2. The resl winer of 1999💗
1999 ESC had so many great songs - Sweden, Germany, Croatia, Belguim but Iceland was my winner that year.
Iceland was my winner too, but I did also like Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey, Croatia, Denmark and a few more. Sweden wasn't bad, but not my biggest favourites.
Fun facts: Norway was represented by Stig van Eijk who was brought up in the city of Bergen who hosted Eurovision Song Contest in 1986, where Doris Dragovic repersented Yugoslavia that year. They might have had a bit to talk about I should think!
Ive cried so hard to this song oh my
It was all out of luck that it didn't win....
Indeed :(
Very beautiful, energetic and catchy song from Iceland, with flawless melody. I am glad the televoters of my country (Turkey) give this song 10 points (12 points HAD TO go to Germany because singers were Turkish lmao), while winner Sweden got only 6 from us lol. Seems Turks also agree that Iceland should've won instead of ABBA ripoff Sweden:-)
She was so cute
They probably thought Iceland was too empty to host the eurovision in 2000.
If Iceland had sent this in 1996 for example it might have won.
Well, 4 ballads / slow songs in the top that year UK was more this style in a way. And it was jury system only no televoting so I doubt it. However, if there was a televoting the result might have been different.
Recall Terry Wogan calling them the eejits in long coats. Great song though, should have won.
