  • For all of my card tutorials over the past year (and longer!), you'll see Olive & June nail polish colors on my hands. My at-home nail game has gone up exponentially since adopting the Olive & June method for manis. It's not complicated. It's a bit different than what you may have done in the past. Water is not your friend. And you WILL get better with practice. This video covers my step-by-step at home mani process, following the Olive & June method.
    The products are literally fantastic and the colors will rock your mani world. Hope you enjoy. I'm not a professional nail tech, nor do I fancy myself a beauty/fashion blogger. I'm just a major fan girl who believes that painting my nails is good for my heart, soul and brain. Plus the results? Just plain happiness.

    That technique of starting in the center and pushing back made all the difference for me. I did my first O & J mani Wednesday and was blown away with the results. Taking my time and thin coats is so important. Waiting for my Spring collection to arrive. The colors are amazing!!

      Right? SAME! It makes it SO much easier to get close to the cuticle but not flood it. You will LOVE the colors! I'm going to paint Angelfish today! But this color, Hibiscus? Still looks great and no chips after four days.

    Doing manis always reminds me of my (now passed) godmother Sharon. I’d go over to her house as a kid and she had - I shit you not - an ENTIRE PANTRY of nail supplies. 😍 So young Melissa learned well. But the dipping remover pod was the singular best home mani invention ever invented. Oh, and the quick dry aerosol spray. That stuff was amazing.

    This video was such a great idea, Cathy! I have horrible nails and hands and I have the worst cuticles. On top of that, I hate the feel of pushing back my cuticles, kind of like 'chewing on a ball of tin foil when you have fillings LOL. So, this Mani is 'right up my alley'. So happy you shared....thanks, Cathy!

    Oh my....I stumbled upon Olive and June late last year and WOW ! What a game changer. After having my nails done professionally and growing tired of the damage done to them each visit, I started to polish my own nails at home. I bought the best polish I could find, both online and in beauty supply stores and the manicures I would give myself made it through one day before the chipping began and usually I took the polish off after two days at the most. Enter Olive and June. I now have beautiful nails all the time and a gorgeous collection of nail products I am so happy with this product:) Thank you for the great tutorial. Love your videos!!!

    A nail master, Ha, that's super doubtful for me but I'm game to follow your lead because your nails always look AWESOME !! For years "shudder" I had acrylics - that is probably the one instance where Covid was a good thing in my life as I no longer have them. It was a process to get beyond the thin breaking stage, but I'm there. I have a nail that I somehow damaged decades ago, it will grow out and then when it reaches a certain point or gets a wild hair, will out of the blue split back and whoa mama I hope my bladder is empty when it decides to split because it hurts !!! That is why I kept the acrylic on them, as long as it had the coating it didn't split, winner, winner chicken dinner for that one nail but the acrylic wasn't doing the other 9 any favors. You've inspired me to "try" to get back into the do it myself mani. After envying your nails in your videos (and by know you probably know I'm a Cathy Zielske video stalker) so now that I've seen & been inspired by your nails, how awesome they look and all the gorgeous colors you've worn I'm game to give it a whirl. Thanks for the inspiration - keep painting & rockin' the Olive & June (they really owe you advertising $$, you're a great saleswoman/spokeswoman for their company)

    • @czdesign
      @czdesign  3 роки тому +1

      Give it a try Ginger! I mean, I have a nail that wants to split but keeping it painted (and usually more short than long!) helps! And I am an affiliate now for Olive & June! Your manicure looked very good. I don’t paint my nails. I’m one of those who’s rough on polish and as soon as the first chip shows up I start peeling it off. That is horrible for you nails because it takes of some nail with the polish. Then my nails feel icky almost the sensation that scratching on a chalkboard causes. I know if I didn’t peel I wouldn’t have the problem, but you can’t teach an old dog new tricks and I’m an old dog. You’re the second crafter that I’ve watched videos of manicures. I find it interesting to watch, though I know I’m not doing it.

    Hi Cathy, well you got me hooked on Olive & June months ago, but I'm just now watching your mani video, and haven't done the boot camp yet either. Picked up some great tips from you; thanks! One question, you say you dry first coat 10 minutes, do you also dry the second coat 10 minutes? I missed that in the video. If not 10, how long? Then a minute and a half or so for the dry drops? Thanks again Cathy, I really enjoy your craft videos, and this video is very helpful as well! This 77 year old appreciates you, truly. Keep going, girl!

    • @czdesign
      @czdesign  3 роки тому

      I do! Full 10. I set a timer on my watch and just go back into my office usually and keep working because I can work on a computer without messing up my mani!
      Now… the thing about Dry Drops is in 80 seconds, your nails will be dry to the touch, so you don't smudge them but that doesn't mean they are ready to go hard like they are totally dry! So… I usually give my nails a good 30 minutes of not doing anything that would scuff them up! You have to really let the layers of polish have time to dry. : )

    I hope you are getting a commission! This looks great. My nails are taking a beating this year. Normally I am pretty on the ball and do a mani for myself once / wk. I was not happy with the brand I was using years ago (rhymes with poe pee eye). I started using another brand and have found it better-wearing but I will am VERY hard on my nails. I handle kids' papers all day long and I am not the delicate sort in the way that I pick up and cart around things, open car doors, type, and lots of other actions. I will give Olive and June a try and see what I think, but I have to wait until payday since the 19% off at SSS took precedence. It looks like the things I would like best are the dehydrator and that touch-up brush. I already have dry drops from two other brands.
    Thanks for a thorough video -
    Lori in PA

    So much faster than my mani :) I do my own dip mani every 3 weeks or so, which can take an hour to soak off an another hour to put on before I even decide on what stamping plate to use for my polish design. Fortunately, in the weeks between I can repaint them all I want without re-dipping in 30-90 minutes - depending on how fancy schmancy I want to get with my nail art.

      If they are longer, I try to, but i feel like I always mess it up at that point. So the short answer? Not usually. Plus I don't like them to be much longer than they are in this video. Gets in the way of typing and crafting!

    You got me hooked on O&J last fall, and in all seriousness this video was SO helpful to me. My skills have improved but flooding my cuticles has remained a real problem for me. My thumbnails are so weirdly bumpy that no matter what I try I can’t get them smooth (an overzealous manicurist once buffed all the way through my nail because she was so determined to get the nail flat), but even they have looked marginally better as I’ve been doing more. Thanks for taking the time to film such a detailed mani video and share all your tips!

    I would suggest using a dark colored towel to do your nails with. It is the best way to see the edges of your nail for shaping. Not everyone wears colored polish, especially when they are short. It makes a huge difference! Try it ladies! You'll be surprised how much it helps. Also, for yellow nails, take a small bowl add straight bleach, soak nail tips for a few minutes and wipe off with paper towel. Don't use a good towel as the yellow can rub off. Scrub with nail brush and dish soap or other soap under water. Voile'! If the straight bleach starts to burn in cuts, you can use diluted bleach. I just work through it to be done quicker. Works for those toes too! Have fun!

      I have found that doing weekly nail care (and GENTLE buffing for sure, I never try to buff out my ridges!) has helped improve my nail ridges. I think I left another comment on your post! Hope you see that one too!

    Lovely Cathy. Unfortunately, I don't have the patience to do much with my nails. I trim them and file them, and remove any potential hangnails, but that's about the extent of it now. I used to go about once a month for a mani & pedi, but with Covid they all had to close and they're still not open yet. My nails ALWAYS break. No idea why, they will just all of a sudden get a split at one side really low on the nail having me to use clippers to give my nails a really weird angle cut.
    Your nails are yellow because you wear polish all the time and the nail is not getting any air (so I've heard). My Mother used to wear polish all the time and her nails turned yellow. As soon as she stopped wearing polish the yellow went and nails went back to their normal pinkish colour.

      Yay Colleen! Yes, my cuticles grow up on the nail and they use to be much harder to manage. But with weekly manicures at home, and lots of moisturizing, they have gotten so much more manageable! I hope you love the polish. I do, so much. Great product and it brings me joy.

      Oh no! Well, I know there are supplements that I hear help. Strangely enough? Prenatal vitamins. I personally have been taking collagen peptides (a brand I pick up at Target!) which have helped the strength of my nails and even my middle aged hair! They are called Vital Proteins and i pop a scoop into my coffee every morning. I have had a few eras of bad nail splits, too! But taking care of them and hydrating has helped them improve a lot.

So the last time I did my own nails, or attempted to I should say, I accidentally knocked them the polish bottle over and it rolled, bounced, spun and knocked against the cupboard on the way down to the CARPET! I had blobs and splatters of DARK PURPLE polish all over. Not a fun day. You make it look so easy makes me want to try. Oh boy-there goes the neighborhood!
