Just did this hike a week ago! And please, please, please, make sure to wear a hat! My head got severely burnt and I am still miserable! I know, I know, I should've known better, but just a reminder to y'all before heading out. It's a long hike with absolutely no coverage from the sun! So, lots of water, sunscreen, hat and yes, a bathing suit too! Also, bring 10$ for the ride back, so worth it!😎
Out of curiosity - I know it's illegal to drive to the Green Sand Beach - but is there any reason you can't (legally) ride a bike from the parking lot to the top of the cliffs above the beach?
Heya Jenny here from UNILAD, would love to feature this video on our travel page UNILAD Adventure with credit to you! once my family and I started the hike pretty late, and had to run during most of it to make it back before sundown! since it’s pretty flat, it’s okay to run, but if you’re there while the trails are dry, the dirt will really get kicked up and be terrible.
I found a vein of green sand up near A Bay. I grabbed a bunch of it and took it back to my wife. "Here is what green sand looks like.. Does this mean we don't have to drive all the way down there so you can see it?" After seeing it.. She was satisfied.
Saw this...now making plans to travel here. Just booked it for this summer. I am stoked to find this vid. Wanted to say thank you. Also...anything else to do in the area? When we visit that side of the island I want to explore!
Love the long legged kolea. They hang out all over the place and look so out of place when you see them on a roof. They have a bewildered expression. Good to know about hitching a ride back. We haven't been down to green sands yet and it's a bit of a hike.
Yeah, it felt longer than 2 and a half miles. I suppose on a busy day there may not be room to squeeze in going back. There were a couple jeeps already there when we arrived and they only had half loads.
Did that hike with our 4 kids in the early 90s. Some locals built a ladder to help you get down from the cliff. Do they still have some ladder there or have the government replace it with something more permanent?

Oh wow! Sorry to hear that. I pinned your post as a reminder to others :)
I remember hiking down to this beach when I went out to the Big Isle with my father back in 2014. Short hike my ass!
Was worth it, though.
It is a tough hike! But Papakolea beach is the prize! Unique beach! Mahalo for sharing your video!

That is a lot of effort for not that much satisfaction.
such an amazing place! Videos n pictures dont do this place justice.
I like that: "only a hand full of islands" and you have a hand full of green sand.

Hi! Sorry, I don’t have the raw file of this edit anymore since I made this years ago.
okay no worries could you maybe submit this footage alone, just using the youtube link would be perfect!
I was here 😍💗🌊 breathtakingly beautiful❗❗❗
The music at the beginning and end of your vids is so much louder than the rest of the audio. Maybe try to equalize it a little?
Great video 👍 very nice Beach can't wait to go there one day thanks 👍🌊

Did you research all the facts or did you already know this?
Hello! I did some research. I put the sources in the description. :)
Saw this...now making plans to travel here. Just booked it for this summer. I am stoked to find this vid. Wanted to say thank you.
Also...anything else to do in the area? When we visit that side of the island I want to explore!
You mentioned “hiring” a 4wd vehicle at the parking lot. So you can rent a Jeep/be chauffeured to the beach? I have young kids so it may help if so.
This was amazing. I've only watched this one and I subscribed. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
+Katelynnofx Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! :)

B Lee nope. Same rickety ladder.
Local driver? How do u find them?
What time did you hike there? And how long did the trail take?
We left pretty early in the morning (around 8?). It took us a couple hours since we stopped every now and then to take pictures.
The walk is about 1-2 hours depending on how fast you walk. It’s brutal. But beautiful and worth it in the end.
