When I first saw this I thought of “oh sh*t Darren Sharper one of the leagues hardest hitter” I never knew about his life after the nfl it’s sad that this man did what he did he deserves all 18 years
I remember the dude was on ESPN every week as an NFL analyst commentator too. He’s a smart guy who spoke very well in front of a camera. Sad to see him do such a crime.
Darren sharper was one of my favorite safeties of all time. And I remember when the news came out I couldn't wrap my mind around why He would subject himself to this kind of behavior. Even till this day given his upbringing and the kind of person that we all believed he was NOBODY could've seen this coming. I'm absolutely devastated for the women who were affected by his monstrous actions. This reminds me of the television show Dexter... It appears no matter how much one tries to shelter their true nature... Their "Dark Passenger' can get the best of them. Just a very sad & unfortunate fall from grace. Great video brother

I think Darren literally became a victim of his own financial/societal/sexual largesse. Jaw dropping incredibly beautiful women became so easy that he morphed into dark narcissism. No excuse of course but this oftentimes happens with the filthy rich people.
As someone that lived in New Orleans as this came out I can say very confidently that this whole story sent absolute shockwaves through the city. We thought of him as one of us even though he only played for us for 2 years. He was beloved, and that made the betrayal hurt so much more. He deserves every minute of the 18 years he got.
@lloydg9383 I think this saying isn’t only about evil acts like this, but also about getting into mischief. At least that’s how I grew up hearing it 🤷🏾♂️ to do something constructive and not hang out around the blocks doing nothing. Where I’m from, that’s how a lot of young boys and men get dragged into gangs and very bad company.
As someone who has been drugged and assaulted, thank you for bringing light to not only this story, but also the pathetic practice of some women claiming to be assaulted and spreading lies, making those of us with actual traumatic experiences struggle to find true help and compassion. It's so sad that the people in his life have to deal with the fact that although they did everything right, they provided a wonderful upbringing, he still chose to be absolute dirt.
Honestly, this is such an overwhelmingly small number of women that I can't help but to feel like the people who use it as a reason to call true victims liars are just grasping at straws. I could understand if it was something common, but it truly isn't, and people weaponize it against actual victims like it is. :/

I know one of the women Sharper drugged and assaulted. She filed charges on September 23rd, 2013. She's actually someone I grew up with as she's my cousin. What he did changed her life and way of thinking of things. In court, he looked at her and said "I'm not a monster" after she called him one. Luckily, she's married and moved on from what he did as best she could, but it still haunts her. That man should never see the outside of a.prison.
Except that most people said he was an upstanding citizen with good character. Since there is zero proof that he was that way his whole life and plently of people vouching that he was a good guy, you can't make an absolutist statement like that. Yea, maybe the odds are that he was this way and wore a mask for the first 38 years of his life and fooled everyone...but you can't say that with certainty when the only "evidence" is to the contrary.
This is hands down one of your best videos. This entire situation was bizarre, disturbing, and sad for all the victims involved. Who knows how many victims he had prior to the ones coming forward. Just tragic

I honestly feel for his daughter. I don’t know how she’ll ever be able to reconcile every thing her father has done. Your love for a parent is a hard thing to get past but in a case like this I don’t know how she’s going to deal with this going forward. I feel for her.

I’m someone who followed his whole career. I’m from the same city as him and played football as well. I say that to say I looked up this guy when I growing up. My son currently goes to the same high school he went. What a way to disappoint all of the people who looked up to you. I was one of those kids who saw him make it out and that inspired me. I remember seeing a story here and there, but no one really got into how horrible his crimes were and everything that he was accused of. I don’t know how either, because he was a pretty well known player. I think he even worked at the NFL Network when this all went down.
He was very good on the NFL Network, fired his ass, now Nate Burleson's got the job, has his own morning NFL network show, and on CBS, all would've been Sharper's.

Sometime, as it happens with ESPN and the other big media companies, most of the piece glorifies the person's accomplishments and then at the end, and small part of the piece, they dwell on their transgressions. I think for them there's dissonance between the person they're talking about, what they're being accused of, and how their actions hurt their victims, those Media companies when presenting the athlete almost want to erase his transgression by glorifying his 'past career and his life' in most of the piece they're presenting and denigrating his transgression as a footnote at the end of the piece. When you say you're an advocate for women's safety, I believe it because your actions, how you presented this story, speak a whole lot louder than words.

The sad thing about this story is that it is about power and control over another person. It is a shame that he has a daughter that will be traumatized by the fact that her father has committed these crimes. When he was arrested in total 11 women came forward they believed their was more but small town means rumors travel and we all believe they were afarid too cause of the rumors going on about the 11 who did come forward

Darren Sharper was one of my favorite players growing up. I knew some of what he did but had no idea the full extent of his crimes. Great video as always and hope to see you get to a million subs in the next few months!
I felt almost betrayed. Being a born saints fan it felt like he was such a big part of our first super bowl victory. It was such an emotional game for the city of New Orleans. When this came out there was a collective feeling of sadness and betrayal in the city.

1st I want tell you what a good job you did with this story. You really know how to make these sports heros that many may worship like demigods look and feel HUMAN, just like the rest of us mere mortals and I appreciate that. Although most of your stories serve to lift and inspire, this was a cautionary tale for sure. Full disclosure: I'm a former criminal investigator that specialized in violent crimes and homicide investigations. So as we wrap our heads around what makes a man as (ALPHA MALE) as Darren become a serial rapist; it's important to understand that although a sexual act, rape is NEVER about sex. Even the most common form (date/acquaintance rape) is about POWER and exercising that power over another by taking the one thing we all use to assert our independence as individuals; our sexuality and who to share that with in whatever why we choose. Once that's taken from you, you feel less equal as a human regardless of what other social factors may be at play. I said all that to say this; its highly probable that Darren Sharper will re-offend. Due to his method of operation. In fact if he doesn't live a life of accountability he will elevate his method as to avoid capture for an even longer period with even more dire consequences for the victims. I hope to be wrong about this but my experience tells me otherwise.

Man considering this guys dedication to his crimes and the fact that once he knew he was being investigated, he crossed state lines and increased this terrible activity (even on consecutive days in some cases with multiple victims)…… it just makes me wonder how he only got 18 years with a likelihood for serving just half that. As Flem says many times, he was almost 40 and you have to be a deep thinker to play football that long and be great. He knew what he was doing and does not regret it. I’m not one to stand on that matter too often but the evidence seemed pretty clear, but ONLY 18 years MAXIMUM. He had almost 18 victims it seemed like!

I was a young, athletic, reasonably successful, single man, in WI, around the time he was on the Packers. I went out to meet young women quite often, and I definitely did get to know my share of attractive, interesting young women. Occasionally I would be at a popular night spot, and Darren would be there with the same idea: to meet women. I was not a big fan of Darren even early on, as I thought he wasn't a sure tackler, usually dropping his arms, never wrapping up, also lowering his head, and almost blindly firing his body in the direction of the ball carrier,trying to knock him over, hoping for a big hit, never wrapping up, never following through the tackle (my friends and I called him, "SCUD," as in the SCUD missle, an short/intermediate range missle that was known to be very inaccurate, inconsistent, and seemingly randomly disfunctional). He was just as likely to be in perfect position to intercept as he was to be so out of position he would barely be on the screen (his other nickname was, "almost" as in almost never in good coverage, or almost off the TV screen, or almost made a tackle, or the Packers D is almost good this season). But the other reason we didn't like him was because he was such an arrogant, condescending and insulting, person towards almost everyone, especially waitresses and bartenders. I was also surprised by how intensely certain women hated him, even trying to steer other women away from him (unfortunately many women thought that was jealousy, or so they could steal him for themselves). These women were never specific, they just tried to tell other women to stay away. Once I was dancing with a woman he was talking to on the opposite side of the bar. First, he tried to interrupt and cut in, but I refused. To this he insisted that, "he's already invested in her," I told him that all investments can be lost. He wanted to fight me, with his two friends. I was with five friends, all of us were highly trained in self defense and various forms of combat, I'll leave it at that. We were fine to go outside, but his two friends (bodyguards, we believed). The woman said she was getting tired and asked her friend to take her home. He tried to interject and take her home himself, but her friends pushed him away. Literally, they had to physically push him out of the way. Darren sharper was one of my favorite safeties of all time. And I remember when the news came out I couldn't wrap my mind around why He would subject himself to this kind of behavior. Even till this day given his upbringing and the kind of person that we all believed he was NOBODY could've seen this coming.
I'm absolutely devastated for the women who were affected by his monstrous actions. This reminds me of the television show Dexter... It appears no matter how much one tries to shelter their true nature... Their "Dark Passenger' can get the best of them.

As someone that lived in New Orleans as this came out I can say very confidently that this whole story sent absolute shockwaves through the city. We thought of him as one of us even though he only played for us for 2 years. He was beloved, and that made the betrayal hurt so much more. He deserves every minute of the 18 years he got.

I know one of the women Sharper drugged and assaulted. She filed charges on September 23rd, 2013. She's actually someone I grew up with as she's my cousin. What he did changed her life and way of thinking of things. In court, he looked at her and said "I'm not a monster" after she called him one. Luckily, she's married and moved on from what he did as best she could, but it still haunts her. That man should never see the outside of a.prison.

Sometime, as it happens with ESPN and the other big media companies, most of the piece glorifies the person's accomplishments and then at the end, and small part of the piece, they dwell on their transgressions. I think for them there's dissonance between the person they're talking about, what they're being accused of, and how their actions hurt their victims, those Media companies when presenting the athlete almost want to erase his transgression by glorifying his 'past career and his life' in most of the piece they're presenting and denigrating his transgression as a footnote at the end of the piece. When you say you're an advocate for women's safety, I believe it because your actions, how you presented this story, speak a whole lot louder than words.

It is a shame that he has a daughter that will be traumatized by the fact that her father has committed these crimes. I felt almost betrayed. Being a born saints fan it felt like he was such a big part of our first super bowl victory. It was such an emotional game for the city of New Orleans. When this came out there was a collective feeling of sadness and betrayal in the city.

Remember when this story broke years ago and I was pretty shocked as I never would have expected him to do that. Crazy too because he's a good looking dude, former nfl player, prolly pretty wealthy so it makes no sense why he would do it
It's unfortunate that you had to talk about this, but it's incredibly important. You clearly did a lot of research and tried to look at everything from all angles. I am praying that the victims find healing and can move past this darkness. As a Saints fan, when you hear about Bounty Gate and then this literally a year or two after, it makes you absolutely sick to your stomach. Thank you for looking into this and giving your structured insight on this. These are important discussions we should be having to become better as a society in the future.

Full disclosure: I'm a former criminal investigator that specialized in violent crimes and homicide investigations. So as we wrap our heads around what makes a man as (ALPHA MALE) as Darren become a serial rapist; it's important to understand that although a sexual act, rape is NEVER about sex. Even the most common form (date/acquaintance rape) is about POWER and exercising that power over another by taking the one thing we all use to assert our independence as individuals; our sexuality and who to share that with in whatever why we choose. Once that's taken from you, you feel less equal as a human regardless of what other social factors may be at play.
I said all that to say this; its highly probable that Darren Sharper will re-offend. Due to his method of operation. In fact if he doesn't live a life of accountability he will elevate his method as to avoid capture for an even longer period with even more dire consequences for the victims. I hope to be wrong about this but my experience tells me otherwise.

I don't know what it is, but I commented about how I'm a mental health counselor and I have had multiple clients now describe an urge to basically have sex with a female in a much more physical way then any conscious person would be ok with and that's the only true way I can analyze what they're saying, and yeah while I'm obviously disgusted by it, I have to sit and listen, and it seriously seems like an uncontrollable urge to have oral or actual sex with another person in a much more violent way then any conscious person would ever accept. Agreed because In this situation I just don't believe it had anything to do with CTE this man had deep rooted issues. Some folks have a darkness they hiding.
I don’t think CTE is the root cause but I think its a contributing factor (like his clear lack of impulse control).

Man considering this guys dedication to his crimes and the fact that once he knew he was being investigated, he crossed state lines and increased this terrible activity (even on consecutive days in some cases with multiple victims)…… it just makes me wonder how he only got 18 years with a likelihood for serving just half that. As Flem says many times, he was almost 40 and you have to be a deep thinker to play football that long and be great. He knew what he was doing and does not regret it. I’m not one to stand on that matter too often but the evidence seemed pretty clear, but ONLY 18 years MAXIMUM. He had almost 18 victims it seemed like!

I think you should do a video on Darryl Stingley... A promising WR whose career was ended in a unfortunate on the field accident that shattered vertebrae in the top of his spine and left him a quadriplegic.
That was a tragic story. I was coached by his brother Wayne Stingley in 1978 so this is close to my heart.
He played before I was even alive but as a lifelong Patriots fan I am very familiar with his story and have always hated The Raiders because of it.

I was a young, athletic, reasonably successful, single man, in WI, around the time he was on the Packers. I went out to meet young women quite often, and I definitely did get to know my share of attractive, interesting young women. Occasionally I would be at a popular night spot, and Darren would be there with the same idea: to meet women. I was not a big fan of Darren even early on, as I thought he wasn't a sure tackler, usually dropping his arms, never wrapping up, also lowering his head, and almost blindly firing his body in the direction of the ball carrier,trying to knock him over, hoping for a big hit, never wrapping up, never following through the tackle (my friends and I called him, "SCUD," as in the SCUD missle, an short/intermediate range missle that was known to be very inaccurate, inconsistent, and seemingly randomly disfunctional). He was just as likely to be in perfect position to intercept as he was to be so out of position he would barely be on the screen (his other nickname was, "almost" as in almost never in good coverage, or almost off the TV screen, or almost made a tackle, or the Packers D is almost good this season). But the other reason we didn't like him was because he was such an arrogant, condescending and insulting, person towards almost everyone, especially waitresses and bartenders. I was also surprised by how intensely certain women hated him, even trying to steer other women away from him (unfortunately many women thought that was jealousy, or so they could steal him for themselves). These women were never specific, they just tried to tell other women to stay away. Once I was dancing with a woman he was talking to on the opposite side of the bar. First, he tried to interrupt and cut in, but I refused. To this he insisted that, "he's already invested in her,"
I told him that all investments can be lost.
He wanted to fight me, with his two friends. I was with five friends, all of us were highly trained in self defense and various forms of combat, I'll leave it at that. We were fine to go outside, but his two friends (bodyguards, we believed). The woman said she was getting tired and asked her friend to take her home. He tried to interject and take her home himself, but her friends pushed him away. Literally, they had to physically push him out of the way. After she left he warned one of my friends to stay out of his way and that it wasn't over. Nothing ever happened after that, he was off the Packers after the next season.
When this story broke my wife was surprised, I wasn't.

My adopted little sister was actually molested as a baby and that's why my parents got custody of her. She's my second cousin by blood but my sister by relation. And the people that lie about it. Came back half hour later and sought my husband out to take picture. Sounded like such a good man til we heard about this. Disturbing story about him..
