ED-E is, by far, my favorite Fallout companion. One simple reason: You never shout "DAMMIT, ED-E! Get out of the way!" at the screen. Every other companion gets in the way all the damn time. But not ED-E.
rom65536 I have the exact opposite problem. ED-E is ALWAYS in my way. Doors are the worst, also trying to jump over things. He always manages to be right where I need to go.

In Fallout 3 in the Megaton player home, I kept getting stuck in the upstairs bedroom. Fawkes and Wadsworth would stand right in the doorway and wouldn't budge. I'd have to end up resetting.
@@JReed7560 when you sleep stay by the doorway. You are able to close the codsworth in the other room. Always have to jump over dogmeat tho.
Mmm... minor point: companions in FO:NV aren't immortal if you're playing in Hardcore mode. On my Hardcore playthrough, I went for the armor. Otherwise, yeah, I always pick the followers.

I always play hardcore and I always pick the weapon upgrade. Not only are the Followers a more moral choice, but ED-E never loses more than about 25% of his health in any of my games (it must be something with my play style that keeps him from getting hit much).

With the weapon upgrade from the Followers, ED-E also gains the ability to turn targets into a pile of ash instead of setting them on fire. He's awesome. If I had an X-wing, I'd want him as my astromech.

I love using ED-E in association with Boone, Boone is a headshot machine and ED-E is just a nice companion to have. It's funny because i stumbled across his side quest on accident. Boone and ED-E work well together. Probably the best in the game.
Yes, I do the same ED-E for his perception and Boone for his ranged weapon to go along with my sniper character.

The Fallout wiki states that when the Deathclaw mother is frenzied she kills everything in sight that isn’t a Deathclaw... which she already did anyway. Getting her enraged does nothing essentially.
I care a lot more about ED-E than the rest of the companions, I never leave him unrepaired and alone.

I just found that out today too by following Nash to his store after making Meyers the sheriff for the first time ever. I’ve been crippling myself by never finding ED-E
ED-E is one of my all time favorite companions. I love how unique he is, as well as the fact that he plays music in combat

ED-E is great! When I needed to get to Jacobstown with Rex, I couldn’t get past Caesar’s Assassins. So I dropped off Rex back with the King, and got ED-E to take them out!

Companion deaths are permanent if you play Hardcore mode, my ED-E ends up getting one shot a lot.
I leave ede at goodsprings in victors shack, then transfere him to lucky 38 once im inside, i dont use followers, as they are a burdeon, in hardcore mode.
@@Georgey0121 in hardcore mode if you want to bring companions, you need to build appropriately, you need about 8 or 9 charisma (this makes them do more damage and resist more) to start, with equipment or implant you get to 10. Also give the perks that make companions last longer.
@@endyourway8751 If you like the NCR, wandering the open wastes with ED-E and Boone almost never fails, and I always have 1 CHAR. But they tend to fall apart if you're not a bullet sponge in close quarters, or you're surrounded at mid range.

The followers did use the data for solar power, but I have no idea how the FOTA knows how to upgrade EDE. Arcade must've taught em.

I'm a little disappointed you didn't take a bigger look at how the Followers and Brotherhood use the information they gather. In their endings, they clearly use them for different purposes.
Considering how bloodthirsty and fanatical the Mojave BOS can be, them having greater access to an army of eyebots that are nigh-invulnerable seems like a BIIIIT of a quandary. They need to adapt and change their beliefs, and giving them another means of survival without forcing them to change their structure is just asking for trouble.
Compare that to the Followers, who just use it to improve the capacity and power of the solar panels they repair. Solar panels that are renewable energy. Solar panels that don't kill anyone, but simply are used to give people access to utilities that are almost necessary to improve life.
I dont know about solar panels not killing anyone. I mean have you seen the death count and dont get me even started at Helios

But, The Followers were there trying to actively stop that from being discovered and wanted to use Helios 1 for the maximum good and never let the NCR know the weapon exists, if at all possible.
It kinda plays more in to the original argument of Followers being the better choice for the knowledge.

It doesnt seem as if they could spy on you through eyebots, Lorenzo said that he couldnt hear you. Perhaps, they could just as well use radio frequencies to reach you.
Next to Veronica, EDE was my favorite companion, in the fallout universe. Always faithful, always had something to beep at...and loved that tune when he engaged in a battle. Great back story as well. Thank you Oxhorn for this one. Brought back some great memories of my buddy in The Mohave.
ED-E is by far my favorite companion in the entire Fallout series. He's like a little flying R2D2 with an ungodly amount of carry weight, not to mention the fact that besides that he can also pull his own weight in a fight

In the quest if you have not yet discovered hidden valley or the brotherhood after Lorenzo contacts you he will send you to the Repconn HQ to meet up with one of the patrols, you will then find them dead and use the holotape to gain access to the bunker to allow Lorenzo to upgrade ED-E
It's amazing that Obsidian managed to make something fascinating and interesting from something that Bethesda doesn't see it as a matter of importance in FO3. Whitley is possibly one of the unnamed Enclave scientist the Lone Wanderer might have encountered in the Capital Wasteland and likely waste him in a point blank bull in the head.

I've had this game on my pc with all vanilla dc since 2011. No mods. I would pay 100 bucks if the same team were to make a new Fallout game using the Fallout 4 engine.
Ah, ED-E, the best robot buddy a person could have. I was really sad that Automatron didn't give you options to build your own eyebot companion, but we have mods for that. I always turn him over to the Followers. Their upgrade is much better and I prefer them as a faction. One of the true altruistic groups in Fallout. Which makes it ironic that Caesar was one of them.

One of the my favorite parts to this robot is the licence plate. I live in Illinois (it's great here) and it's fun to see an Illinois license plate on a robot in Fallout New Vegas. Also I wonder. What happened to Illinois after the war? I don't think it died because the bombs didn't hit Illinois, did they? Anyway just something to think about. I hope to know what happened soon I've been looking and I see nothing so maybe they're ok.

Hands down my favorite Companion in all of new Vegas, especially after and in lonesome road.
ED-E always been my best buddy, honestly I always loved his company as I journeyed through the wasteland.
ED-E sensors are a life saver for detecting the nightkin in that one quest with the ghouls
ED-E is the best companion in the game. He doesn't judge me or complain when I make him a pack mule and he is so nice to tell me if I'm detected even when I'm not sneaking. Pair him with Boon for some sniping and damn you can't be stopped! If only you could make Eyebots to follow you around with the Automatons add on in Fallout 4 because I would've made ED-E in a heart beat. Granted I did make FISTO for my female scientist character. She's a bit anti social.....

i always hand ed-e over to the followers. i like them more than the brotherhood in general and that boost to his weapons is always choice, but even beyond that, i find the noble cause that the followers work towards morally better than the militaristic ends that the brotherhood wants ed-e for. they turn him into a weapon which we learn through lonesome road, that ed-e really didn't want. he was his own unique little being and personality and i like the believe that he'd rather give his memory banks over to humanitarians like the followers than a xenophobic military-based group like the brotherhood.

I’m extremely late to comment, but I’ll provide another perspective for argument’s sake. If you say make the NCR and BoS work together, in which case a fleet of duraframe eye bots could be helpful, given the Mojave Brotherhood takes up the responsibility of guarding some roads. It could ensure the roads for traders in the Mojave are secure.
You know there are some glitches that gives him his weapon upgrade even though you haven’t taken him to the followers of the apocalypse
In which case I took him to the brotherhood of steel to get his armor upgraded

I think the "ED-E My Love" mission should get a follow up. It would have to be a custom mission. This is triggered after you give the Eyebot to the BoS or the Followers Of The Apocalypse. A day or so after the upgrade, you get a hidden message from Whitley saying that it's time to begin the next level of the Duraframe Eyebot project. A certain spot on the map is picked for you to continue what Whitley started. This area is designated "New Navarro'". You can begin customising the new prototype (which will retain the upgrades) from your current eyebot. Various design options are unlocked.
BTW, before you start the next gen Eyebots, you must clear the new lab of automated Enclave troops with Hellfire Armour. After that, you can start the new project. You may have to set up defenses to protect the lab before you build, since a 2nd and possible third wave of "Autumn Soldiers" (a bunch of NCR soldiers defected to the New Enclave) lead by a certain female former NCR general wants your next gen Eyebot project shut down to make the Mark 2 Hellfire Armour. Don't let her get in the way of Whitley's vision and yours!
PS. The voice of Whitley will guide you in this new mission.

Crazy how bit and detailed these Fallout open worlds are. Still finding stuff in Fallout 4 that I missed on my first two play throughs .

I wondered many times about ED-E's different endings, but this is the first time I look into it: your video was a good tale, thank you.
Heres my problem with ED-E's journey to Navarro. Why would the Enclave on the East coast send him to Navarro? They would have surely known by the time around Fallout 3 that Navarro fell to the Brotherhood and NCR decades before. The Enclave broke and most of the survivors headed east. Why send him potentially into the hands of enemies of the Enclave? Did Obsidian mess up their lore?
Paul Grattan well hell fire armor was presumably before fo3 so they would need years to manufacture the amount of armor needed for that war against the bos now the enclave could have had detachments allover the states so honestly it could have been mere days after the great war ed-e obviously isent the most punctual currior to deliver messages more a radio with lasers and a wrench. Maby he's been to navarro but can't remember due to a handloaded 308 in his cpus data banks.
plumbherhub we know there is another detachment in Chicago ED-E was to make a stop with them. They would copy ED-E's data give him a service then send him off but i thought it was Autumn's father who lead the Enclave east they were contacted by Eden so they would know Navarro was gone. The survivors came from there so again why send him to Navarro decades after they lost it.
To my knowledge autumn and the East coast enclave journeyed to raven rock after the destruction of the Poseidon oil rig. By that time Navarro was still an operational enclave outpost. Navarro was destroyed after autumn went east and the enclave probably wasn't a able to communicate directly to the east coast. By the time of the events of fallout 3 the eastern enclave ed-e is sent west to Navarro not knowing the BoS and the NCR destroyed it.
Well, apparently ED-E “vanishes” after reaching Navarro, so perhaps they aren’t entirely gone after all.
Chris Schoenthaler Navarro is part of the NCR now very unlikely the Enclave is operating in California now. The NCR and BoS continue to hunt and kill any Enclave remnants they find. The only Enclave detachment we now know is actively operating is the Chicago detachment. We know nothing about them other than they exist and it seems have a base in or near the Chicago ruins. For all we know they may control Chicago. Depends on what is canon from tactics. If the mid west BoS fought the machine AI thing in vault zero they probably took such a beating from its robot army that the Enclave there may have saw their chance and took over. We will have to hope next game gives us some lore to let us know whats going on in Illinois.
I ran into a glitch when ED-E tries to kill all your other companions so it was either put him down or kill everyone else and it honestly took me a while to decide

That locked achievement is just sitting there still for the "ED my love" on my 360.
Heck ya we all love ed e . Super overpowered for a companion. He just can't carry faction clothing.. lol. Also great way to get ede is to stop by lone wolf radio. Get a wasteland survival guide and all the parts you want

Go with Followers and get the weapon upgrade. The long range laser helps a lot more than the extra armor from BoS.
I disagree honestly, the upgraded weapon has issues with accuracy, and the armor is handy because ed-e is pretty fragile
i think in normal mode offense is best as companions are immortal, so defense isn't that useful.

Ever since I first repaired this robot for the first time I’ve called him “E.D” as a reference to a certain type of dysfunction.
I thought the way the brotherhood of steel operated that they would give the damage bonus since they love laser weapons and the followers of the apocalypse would give the defense since they seem more passive lol
Companions do die, but only if you are playing on hardcore mode.

ED-E was one of my most used companions. Oddly though, in one playthrough I had 500+ hours in-game and had never talked to Old Lady Gibson, and yet, ED-E straight up scared the crap out of me one day because he started playing the prerecorded transmission. I definitely wasn't expecting it, haha, I thought someone was behind me!
I still need to repair Ed e in my game but who doesn’t want a loveable eyebot.

When getting ED-E, I went with the Followers of the Apocolypse. I also managed to get it working with the science skill thing.
