This is what separates Macready from someone like Kellog. They were both dealt bad hands by life, but where Kellog saw it as an excuse to ruin others lives because his was ruined, Macready saw it as a reason to never disrespect someone in any way, because he knows how it feels.

I personally think macready has one of the most intresting story's out of all the other followers in the game, his story truely proves he isnt another random merc.

I really like MacCready. I picked him to be my romance in Fallout for several reasons:
- First of all, he's good looking, he's got a cool no-bullshit vibe which is important in The Wasteland.
- He relates to me on the death of my husband and being away from my son.
- He kiiinda looks like my real-life husband and the in-game husband (of course I remade me and my husband in the game, haha!).
- You can't romance Valentine.
That last reason is my favorite lol

Maybe the minutae of these settlements doesn't 'quite' make sense. But bugs aside when you first go in and discover their stories they are a real thrill probably because they are so unique & the devs have clearly put a lot of thought & detail into these places. #PresidentDaddy

I always have my Sole Survivor romance MacCready. When he gives her the toy soldier Lucy made for him, the Sole Survivor gives MacCready her wedding ring. Two gifts from two loves lost uniting a new family with hope for the future. Sometimes a family is a 200+ year old mom, a mercenary dad, a son, a robot son, and two Synths grandkids made from your original son's DNA.

One detail I really like about Macready is that when you go and take him to Vault 111. You can go visit your dead spouse and when Macready is by your side he will say, "I'm sorry, this must be really hard. I will leave you alone for now." Then he proceeds to walk away. I just found that really sweet.

One thing I think its interesting is the fact that, if you kill him the last words he says are "Oh god, please no!", totally showing his personality, a guy with a temper who plays the badass, but its actually afraid of dying and failing once more to the people he loves.
Idk, guess it is a nice detail.
He's afraid of dying because he simply wants to find a cure for his son and if you kill him, Duncan's fate is sealed

I totally fangirled over MacCready too, and Oxhorn is right about that character being appealing to girls -- but it's not because MacCready is unusually handsome, imho, it's because I love his backstory and personality. I don't know whether I'd like him if I didn't know; probably then I'd feel more like Piper about him.

I spoiled myself that he was the same MacCready. I was looking up Fallout 4 companions to see how to find them all and saw MacCready, so I clicked and foumd MacCready's Fallout wiki page
MacCready is my favorite companion. He's so badass and and I'm happy that he's in Fallout 4. I felt sorry for him when he told his life story about his wife Lucy getting killed in front of him by ghouls and his son Duncan getting really sick. He's a great father to Duncan, and trying to find a cure for his son proves that.

MacCready, Hancock, and Nick Valentine were my favorite companions. Their personalities were the most "human" of the assorted followers. They had strengths and flaws; they were far from perfect. Still, they all managed to maintain a tenuous moral code that stressed personal choice and equality regardless of background. Anybody feel the same?

Little fact outside of the character. The voice of MacCready is Matthew Mercer. He has done voice work for a number of favorite characters from Animes, Cartoons, Video Games, and also is the DM of the Geek & Sundry popular series, Critical Roll. Also for Fallout 4 he is the Voice of Z1-14.
Matt is amazing Voice Actor. He has done the voice of two more of my favorite characters in a few JRPGs. Ironically are somewhat similar on one subject lol. Plus a few other voices.

i personally read maccready as being a little depressed when you first start wandering with him which is why he’s my favorite character, i relate to him 100%. he talks about if him & his son had died with his wife, and when you reach highest affinity he says you saved him from himself. which is like, very common symptoms of depression. hes a really complex character and i love him so much for that reason
Mac&Chesey has one of the best rewards in the game, because instead of getting some lame ass gun that you'll probably throw into storage forever, he actually gives you something that holds meaning and shows true friendship is one of the best things in Fallout 4 and is why I love the game so much!!!
Now I just need to get friends IRL and I'll be set!!!

That's not a bottle opener, that's the part of the stock where you tie the rope/belt for carrying the rifle on your shoulders...one end of the rope/belt goes there and the other under the barrel of the gun.

Talon Company is definitely ruthless. Mainly only for money. They are not like raiders. And they have their own hierarchy. Plus they are from the Capital Wasteland, which is where MacCready is from.
Perhaps when he got kicked out of Little Lamplight (because of his eventual age) he joined up with a group of Talon Company who shortly after broke off from the main group to form their own.
The Outcasts are an offshoot/splinter faction of the Lyons BoS. Why not The Gunners being at one time part of Talon Company?
Bethesda’s ability to make such great stories are amazing. I remember when I first met MacCready; I was reluctant to have him as a companion at first as I didn’t think he had morales and was greedy. But every time I helped him out and he told me his story, I eventually came submerged with the story and feeling as if he was real. It’s great how just spending time with him shows his true character, and how good of a character he is. He is definitely hands down my favourite companion and one of the best in Fallout 4.

lmao happened to me immediately after leaving Virgil's cave for the first time with a deathclaw right next to me, and I went fuck it what could possibly go wrong and romanced him right there in the glowing sea.

I had such a good laugh when I met him in fallout 3, and when I first found him in good neighbor, and searching to see that he is indeed the same person, I lost my mind. the only companion that comes remotely close to him is dogmeat. dogmeat, and any robot I make

MacCready is the one companion I never messed with. Early on I was told his perk was bugged so I started shying away from him, and kept it up. *sigh*.
Makes me wonder --- WHICH kids or young people in Fallout 4 COULD be a possible returning character in Fallout 5 should Bethesda continue the series? Austin from Vault 81 perhaps? Maybe the cure had some other beneficial effects. The Ghoul kid Billy? Maybe one of the Atom Cats as a mellow senior citizen?
I'd hope that Nat, Piper or Nick could return. Them and Hancock.

Yeah, MacCready's perk was bugged so it made me never miss a headshot. I could destroy whole camps of super mutants or raiders in seconds from 300 feet away. Awesome fun. Then they patched it. Damn. I want Duncan MacCready in FO5. A lot of us want to know if he survived seeing as MacCready never goes to see him.

My heart breaks everytime Lucy is mentioned. You can see the moment MacCready is sad do to the mention of her. His death quote hurts me even more. I see him thinking that he can't die yet he has to live for Duncan. Romanced MacCready is adorable. I love his character.
the only thing i feel is missing from having MacCready as a companion and potential spouse is that after romancing him you cant get his farm as a custom player home. would have been a nice touch but i guess somebody could make a mod for it to be possible

If they were diffrent ages they could have left at seperate times but met up with each other later.
In Lamplight you must move away at the age of 16. so the chance to leave at the same day 1 to 365.

I think that MacCready and Lucy lived in the Commonwealth long enough for their son to be born, then went back to the capital intent on starting a farm. But on the way they stopped at a metro station. It just makes more sense in that order.
Depends, it's entirely possible that at the McCready farm it's a four day round trip to the local trading post or nearest town.

Apparently MacCready is 22, assuming his wife was a similar age (slightly older or younger) The Timeline feels a little rushed, but I'm going to hazard a guess that his son is around 4 maybe 5, 6 at the absolute oldest (assuming he and Lucy had Duncan almost immediatly after they got married, which was probabbly not long after MacCready left Little Lamplight) Since Duncan was playing outside when he got sick, he'd have to be old enough to play outside by himself or atleast supervised by one of his parents.
I fangirled so hard when I found out he was the same MacCready from little lamplight, I had my suspicions but I wasn't totally sure so it made me happy
Also now that I saw this video it totally opened my eyes to see a different perspective on him it was really interesting, I'm glad I did all his quest's and in the end made him my lover lol

@Jacob St.Clair Is it possible that he saw her as a friend as a kid in LL, but then left the settlement at sixteen (she is a year younger in the F03), and the"met" her again, but now saw her as a potential mate once she wasn't still living with the other kids? It might be just my personal head canon because I can't find a solid piece of evidence otherwise, but maybe the developers and writers just shorten his retelling of the backstory a little for the sake of the game dialog not being too long. If you have played FO3, in a play through you might never hear the side story that she put him back together again after the cave-in, that they spend a lot of time together ever since, or that he calls her his best girl. Or that "Princess" is supremely crushing on him and jealous of his devotion to Lucy in LL.

He’s been through pretty much everything the wastes could throw his way and came out swinging on the other side, and we’ve seen characters break at far less. Made him tough as nails, but he still held on to morality and principles, instead of turning into someone like Kellogg, which he very well could have, and I’m not even sure I could blame him for it.
Her delivery at 9:43 is just amazing. Not an ounce of shock, or horror, just a statement.
A MacCready always pays his debt
MacCready is still one of my favorite companion. His back story really hit home for me. I always had such deep sympathy and empathy for him.
One of the things I've noticed us that Macready comments a lot when you are fighting feral ghouls, more clues about what happened in that metro station all those years ago.
"Blehh Bleeeehhh! SHUT UP!" You can hear the resentment in his voice. I can picture him furiously pummelling one of the corpses with the butt of his gun before the SS gently brings him to by placing her hand on his shoulder.

She wasn't a Doctor, but she had a Healing Mindset, she probably never became a Doctor, but she didn't really need to. She saved Macreadys life, probably everyone's tbh. I'm pretty sure she's the one with his Son, most people who haven't heard of a Disease, wouldn't try to Cure it. But, most people wouldn't be able to do what she did, with so few Supplies

If I were to be honest Macready is my favorite follower of all the games his story and interactions with the sole survivor has taught him that he should be more trusting of people and make friends because after all withought friends u would likely die in the wasteland.
How do people give shit Fallout 4 for writing? Every quest, every character is just so interesting, so cleverly written.
I think it's just the main story, which I kinda agree with. Wish there were more endings other than nuking or not nuking the institute. But other than that I love this game to death.

For me Piper is the romance who fits best with the MM playthrough, but i really love that AFT lets me bring my own tiny strikesquad. Piper with Cait and McCreedy who are both absolute loyal dogs once shown youre worth it, finally the two links to your past Codsworth and Dogmeat.
For Survival playthroughs clearing out entire encampments it just feels so much more immersive and i for one love it.
