But the problem is Toyota and Honda have dominated the sedan market for years. Even while the big three was still making Taurus’s, Focus’s, Malibu’s, Impala’s, etc. which is why they got out of the market in the first place. Ford at least has a good market for the Taurus with police and government, but for the gen pop the sales will just never come close to the Camry or Accord.

Yes the focus would have been a much better car than it was were it not for the unreliable Powershift 6 speed DCT. I purchased a 2013 Focus back in 2016, 6 months later at 71k needed a transmission replacement luckily it was covered until the extended warranty I had purchased at the dealership. The replacement transmission seemed much better and shifted smoother, though admittedly not as smooth as an automatic with the planetary gears & torque converter. 5 months later I T boned another driver who ran a stop sign & totaled the car, I was sort of glad to see the end of it, although I loved getting close to 40mpg on the highway and had a very comfortable ride and plenty of tech features without being over the top.

      @Thomas63r2 Рік тому +5

@@Thommadura The AXOD, then AX4N/4F50N actually has a decent reputation. There was a metallurgy issue where the splines would wear away and stop driving the pump. Fix that on the affected units and you were golden. Still way more reliable than any GM FWD auto trans! And don't even get me started on the disposable explodamatic modern CV transmissions.

    • @Thommadura
      @Thommadura Рік тому +5

@@Thomas63r2 I owned a Transmission shop - when the AXOD went - it usually took the whole Drive Train with it. They were generally not available in the used market - and so we normally went to dealers to get a WH0LE PLANETARY set which was really expensive although the dealers generally did not repair the transmission they just installed NEW ones. The original THM125 gm front wheel drive had only one problem really - that bushing at the output end of the Differential would fail -and the aftermarket created a replacement seal/bearing unit that could be installed without removing the transmission - this was far better than any Ford FWD trans. However - I will agree that CVTs were just plain Junk.
The biggest mistake that GM made was using Aluminum for their pumps - which would get really badly damaged when the Torque Converters failed and spewed steel into them. But GM transmission, when working correctly, generally shifted better than Fords. THe mistake ALL manufacturers made was that when they move to solenoids for shifting - they did not specify an early Transmission Fluid change. ALL metal parts wear into each other - and give off some metal. Solenoids - being MAGNETIC SWITCHES were where the metal went when they were energized. An early fluid change would have removed a lot of this metal from the unit and allowed the solenoids to work properly longer. Remember - when they were not energized the metal would end up in the fluid. I still recommend an early Transmission fluid change today.

This whole video is a hoax. There has been no such announcement for the US. Most of the video shown in the background is not even Ford product. It is another company's EV product.
The Ford vehicle occasionally shown in the video as "Taurus" is already for sale in China, and has been for over a year. There was no intent to bring it to the US, because US CAFE law currently is too restrictive to sell gasoline-engine powered vehicles classified as sedans in this country. They can only be sold as trucks or SUV's, where CAFE regulation is less restrictive. Also, the vehicle shown in video is not full-size like US consumers recognize with that Taurus nameplate. It is Fusion sized.
You should also note the images of Ford CEO Farley are mute, he is not shown saying anything about this vehicle. If it was an official announcement and true, you can be sure Ford would release a video that has sound!

@@johnfranklin5277 you didn't read my comment(s) completely here and elsewhere in threads.
I've said the US companies have discontinued selling gasoline powered cars, because the new Obama/Biden CAFE regulations make it impossible to meet the standard if you sell gasoline cars. (Mustang remains at Ford, Malibu and Camaro at GM, and Charger/Challenger at MOPAR, sales volume is not very large, but unless regulations change, those cars will also be forced to go electric. In fact, announcements about discontinuation of them have already begun.) US companies don't have "credits" accumulated from prior year fleet averages that allow them to go ahead and sell vehicles that don't meet the new standards, since they were selling larger cars that customers still wanted, and simultaneously pushing small cars out the door with steep rebates to offset the lower fuel economy of the big cars. The result of that was each small car was sold at a loss of over $10K. The companies decided not to keep doing that, after Obama/Biden passed the new regulations, and have now almost completely exited the car side of the market.
The other brands from overseas continue to sell their smaller gasoline-powered cars, in part because currency exchange rate imbalances are keeping their cars profitable enough to import all the parts they require to assemble cars in US plants or import complete cars from overseas, but they will soon run out of emissions credits and be forced to switch to all electric vehicles, too, unless US regulations get changed to free up restrictions.
Truck CAFE regulation is less restrictive, and gasoline engines in trucks are not currently in jeopardy.

Even limousine companies. In my opinion that was definitely one of the best vehicles Ford ever made I have had ltd.'s and Grand marquis's last without any problems a good four hundred thousand miles and that's with bare minimum maintenance plus they were extremely tough which totally backed up the built Ford tough reputation I seriously hope they bring that car back. Especially with the V 8 police interceptor 5.0 engine that could be shared with the Mustang. Quite frankly with as popular as that car was I never understood why they stopped making them. Because literally everyone that drove one loved it. They always have a smooth ride even on rough roads and always had plenty of get-up-and-go. Plus they were extremely safe with an excellent reputation. They practically sold themselves off the lot.

I like the idea of a battery , for starting a cor.
I don’t like hybrids, the time for them ghouls have been long passed.
    Fully electric power is useless.
I have a BMW 420d that gives me 500 miles on a tank full of diesel oil that until the end of 2022 cost me £50 for 50 litres.
    Now it’s about 50% more.
I’m sure with a little thought the noxious gasses can be reduced or even converted to a necessary gas although if it converted to liquid gold there would be complaints about destabilising the value of gold.
My first diesel was a 2 year old 2004 Mondeo the next 3 have been BMW’s .
I don’t do the mileage now because I retired in 2014 I have only done 18,000 miles since I purchased it with 9,000 miles on the clock
I have owned my October 2013 BMW for 10 years. I was going to replace it but the eye watering cost of a battery powered car ……
Now the UK government has enjoyed a very nice bonus of 59% in vat on private fuel sales and have given away the road fund licence on EV’s but home charging on EV’s contains no extra charges on electric fuel easily recovered on a filling station fuel points so economy overnight electricity usage may well carry a surcharge. Nothing is free.
Bringing me back to replacing an EV battery after 10 years could well be more than the value of the vehicle which means we will have finally arrived at the disposable car. Now I would love to use my Raleigh Lennon Grand Prix pedal cycle but at 79 this year that is highly unlikely.
Unless one of the bionic man’s nuclear batteries that last forever. I was going to say a lifetime but for me that’s not much value left in that idea.😎

Ford never stopped building and selling Taurus in China and the Middle East. I am very doubtful of any of the information in this video as this fact was not mentioned while they went on about needing to be mindful of international sales. Ford also makes plenty of sedans for Europe. No quotation was provided from a Ford official either about the return of the Taurus in the US. At best we may get a made in China Taurus to bolster China made car volume. I expect GM will be doin the same thing - particularly with all of their "partner" EV's.

I recently read an article by "Ford Authority", on a new Taurus Sedan model for China which also showed photographs of the vehicle. The exterior was 95% identical to the last Australian made Ford Falcon Sedan model, the FG X, XR6T and the Supercharged V8 sedans.
As a Ford Falcon driver all my life, (parents before me) I would purchase a new Sedan if Ford made one available for Australia buyers.
Moreover, Ford would make a killing, money wise, from LEA agencies across Australia. Our Police, since the demise of Sedans vehicles in Australia, are driving mid size vehicles from overseas, mostly in station wagon style from Scota, VW, variety of SUV brands and 4x4 models. Police are not happy campers driving these vehicles all day, especially on long regional, rural and remote roads.

@@tonyanzellino4359 since the US government enacted a new CAFE law under Obama/Biden some years ago, US companies have been forced to discontinue sedans because the mileage standard cannot be met with gas engine cars, and most US consumers cannot afford $50K electric cars.
Due to that, it's unlikely a car could be made for Australia from scratch, there is no base point design to start one from the US.
The car in China does not meet US regulations, so it can't be sold in the US.
I don't know the rules in Australia about importing cars, but the only way for the near-term future you can get a sedan is to import it from China.

yes they could build those Taurus competitively, and still could in a free market. But Obama/Biden passed a new CAFE law that forced the discontinuation of inexpensive small, medium and large cars and instead requires expensive EV's be built and sold. Ford decided the market will not accept $50K EV Fiestas, and they are right.

About the only way that testing would have anything to do with US plans is if they put electric motors in them. Under the current CAFE law, it is impossible to sell gas-engine sedans here, especial larger ones. In that event, it could be something someone is trying to get approved for production 4 or 5 years from now.
The video was a hoax, they used images of Farley, but notice they had no audio of him talking about any Taurus. Most of the video background was Rivian EV product, not Ford product. There was no such announcement about any US Taurus returning.
