These are some of the worst engines ever. These are cars that are unreliable and I don't even think they'll make 60 000 miles because the engines are so bad. We'll go in depth on these engines from companies like BMW, Ford, Audi, Hyundai, Jeep, Chevrolet, Nissan, Subaru, and more.
I'll tell you what plagued these cars, and how their #reliability is impacted by these #engines, which are some of the worst #cars to buy today. They just won't last, and you can pick much better vehicles for your money. In fact, at the end of today's video I'll show you some cars with much better reliability so you can figure out where you should spend your money!

I don't care how good they make engine oil, I'd never ever drive a car for 15k miles before changing it. These intervals are just marketing gimmicks leaving the buyer to pick up the tab in years to come.
Have to agree with you, here in AU most manufacturers have gone from 10K to 15K between oil changes, it’s a bit too long. Happily I have our Holden (GM) Commodore with the LS3 6.2L V8, love it, and they are so strong. Try to have its oil and filter changed every 10k, it’s worth it in the long run. Cheers.

First the quality of oil is not like 70s,80s ot 90s any more..
Second the dilerships telling you to coming on first "free" service after 30000 kilometers with is wrrooonng!!
New engine producing a small micro parts in the beginning of exploitation,so it cud be deadly for engine life.
A few more oil changes are cheaper than new rod bearings.
I did it for over 10 years, even sent a sample to Blackstone labs with 15,000 miles on it, it was still good. Been using full synthetics since the late 80's. I no longer drive 22,000 miles a year so my oil changes are more frequent, still full synthetics.
As an automotive engineer I can say, I'm completely appalled by manufacturers rushing to produce new models just to cope with competition, when we tell them this new design needs the test of time, they say we're not being innovative, its sad that consumers are now having to do extensive research before buying a car and not may of them do.
Problem is you start off with a complex design that is based on a previous design right from the sketch and make it ultra complex. Blame it on the project manager or your supervisor
There's no amount of research that will help you with a brand new engine in a new car though. Gotta hope for the best. There's no way when that Wenkel engine came out for instance that a new car buyer could predict the seal would be wearing out every 30k miles...it only takes one defect to ruin an engine.
They are also forcing these manufacturers to comply with ridiculous regulations fuel mileage Etc so it isn't just trying to stay with the competitors
Same problem exists in other consumer products. “No time “ to address problems seen in product development; get ‘em built and shipped!
You're exactly right. Ever-tightening CAFE standards demand almost annual power train redesigns. It may not be a problem much longer though, if idiotic ideas like banning internal combustion engines outright keeps gaining steam.
Hyundai has had so much experience replacing their 2.0 Turbo engines that when mine failed at 90,000 they shipped and installed a new one in just over a week. Supplied a rental car too. Doesn't excuse the bad engine design, but it made the situation better than it could've been.

Most of the engine failures in the Hyundais and Kias are in cars made here in the US. The Korean-built cars have very few failures.
Mine failed at~ 77k, they replaced the engine and turbo, it was one of the engines done in their Tennessee plant.
@@pjfsr7024 apparently, the Korean-made engines are fine but the USA ones are crap. Something about the internal tolerances being off.
Mine took over a month, which was awesome since I got a rental car that was better than the Sonata.

You should list the engines not just make. For example the Ford Escape is only the 1.6 liter EcoBoost that is a problem

Definitely. My dad had a 750IL which he thought he got a good deal on in the 1990s. Though it had a huge V12, it also had insane issues, the catalytic converters got so hot they melted and fused together no fewer than three times before he sold the thing (each time the repairs cost > $6,000) and decided to swear off imports for a while. For a man who used to buy Mercedes, to end up going with Fords and a Jeep later in life, the BMW seemed to earn a dark mark in my mind. He did at least buy my mom a Mercedes station wagon again before he passed away, but that BMW was the most expensive vehicle for unexpected maintenance that I have ever been that close to personally.

The manufacturers seem to spend a lot of time creating very, externally, sexy vehicles. However, they tend to create inferior drive trains. In other words, marketing department winning and engineering department losing.
Planned obsolescence
They know exactly what they're doing. They don't want it to last. They want it to fall apart in a few years so you get a new one almost the instant you stop paying on the old one.
Build cars right, they last. Cars last, people don't buy new ones anywhere near as often. Revenue, new car sales plummet. Stocks plummet. You can see why they don't do this anymore...
@Harry James Pleat frankly I think modern cars are fucking hideous and old cars are the pretty ones. I love the boxy styling of the 80s...rockin' an '85 F150 as a daily myself...but I'm a total sucker for atomic era fins and depression era Art Deco.
My next car will have a flathead engine in it.
After the GFC of 2008 CSR companies facing bankruptcy switched to producing cheap rubbish. They look nice but don't last.

The 4Runner doesn't just look old, the basic truck if 15 going towards 20 years old. You do have to give Toyota credit, tho, for being able to successfully update a design for what seems like decades.
I’ve had multiple vehicles with the 2.4 EcoTec and to be honest, I’ve never had any of these issues with them. We bought a 2008 Pontiac G6 used back in 2012 with 40,000 miles on it. We still drive it today, having 145,000 miles on it. I’ve had to put one catalytic converter (pre-cat attached to the exhaust manifold as the car has two of them) and I replaced the VVT solenoids, once. Other than that, routine maintenance, oil changes, and proper flushes. Car still runs strong today. We also had a 2014 Chevy Equinox that we put 40,000 miles on it until we turned it in; but only because my wife was pregnant with our third child and we needed something larger. The only repair to that vehicle was also the VVT Solenoids once(which are cheap and very easy to do). Other than that, regular oil changes and routine flushes. My parents even have a 2014 Chevy Captiva Sport with the 2.4 EcoTec and have put over 100,000 miles on theirs with no major repairs.
The shop I take my work car to (it’s a fleet vehicle, I generally do most repairs to my own vehicles) was talking about the same issues with vehicles with the 2.4 EcoTecs. Everything from oil consumption to timing chains as well. I mentioned well that’s strange, I’ve never had issues with any of them I drive. They laughed and asked, “Do you change your oil regularly”? I stated yes, and they responded, “That’s why”.
A majority of the engine issues experienced on 2.4 EcoTec is not from poor design, but rather poor maintenance scheduling. I’m not saying that some people who do proper maintenance don’t experience the same issues, but many of them are actually avoidable.
My 2012 Equinox with the 2.4 was awesome.

I agree with most of this. I did have a 02 Nissan Altima 2.5 that I put 116k on. Zero drivetrain issues just evap,steering rack and freakin expensive ball joints. Drivetrain was actually rock solid,floor rusted pretty good too

Regarding the Chinese influence on car manufacturers of influencing the market to look more of a status rather than a vehicle, small engines with high output and NASA technology, this madness for more horse and zero to sixty hard on, and finally the trend of doing everything else other than driving while you're sitting in the driver's seat, where do you think petrol heads like me with a limited budget will end up? Sure there's no happy ending for this story but I trust your talent to find a way. Cheers

I have 192,000 miles on my 2013 Ford Escape 2.0 and it still runs great with zero engine repairs. Turbo is still fine too. Has only seen Mobil 1 with changes every 5,000 miles
how often do yo u change the fuel filterS??
Our 2014 is still running strong at 180000 as well. I see lots for sale running in the 150000 mile range. They honestly can't be that bad

He needs less hyperbole. It’s pretty more than possible that there are people out there, (quite a few), that have cars containing these engines that do exceed 60k miles.
If you’re straight up you don’t need to lie to sell your story.
In fact I’ve seen on some BMW forums for example that there are cars with more miles on that this guy claims won’t happen.
How about, “These cars quite likely won’t last X miles”?
Be careful, this and most other videos are based on one man's opinion, and he can't possibly have owned or driven all those cars to know whether they're any good or not. Most engines fail because of lack of maintenance, nothing else. One thing I will say is that any engine under 1.6 litre or so that has had a turbo fitted to make up for the lack of power, such as in the Ford Escape featured, isn't likely to last because they're underpowered and you're putting too much strain on the engine. The turbo will compensate for a while but long term, don't expect them to stick around. Note that there are no official stats given to back any of this up.

I still have a 2001 . The 225 cid slant six was another good one .
the 3.6 V6 is dam good also in fact all of them are good except the diesel like he already said.

Thanks for video. Very useful info. I got my 2013 BMW 750i back in 2015 with 25000 miles on it(CPO from Rusnak BMW)with N63tu engine Now I have 110000 miles on it. Not even one issue so far. I service car every 5000 miles,do regular scheduled maintenance. Maintenance isn’t very expensive. I had to replace only wear and tear parts. Maybe I am just lucky. Hopefully I’ll make it to 200000 miles with no major issues.
No I think that your maintenance schedule and the fact that you're willing to pay the price to maintain it even though it's really expensive is your quality I think a lot of the problem with these more expensive cars is that the people they don't want to spend the higher cost to maintain them only the really wealthy ones that buy them when somebody buys a $100,000 BMW and find out it cost $100 for an oil change and they're just an average person they're in no hurry to do it or it cost $500 for a tune-up they're in no hurry to do it

For most people on, a car is an investment, and if it fails early, the stress can be enormous. For me at least, reliability is the most important factor.
Cars are not investments.They are huge depreciating asset especially all of the German cars in this video😂.
With the exception of maybe 5% of cars bought today, but only because they are rare low production cars.

I must admit I was really keen on getting a 2007 M6 with the V10. It had very low kms but I just couldn’t bring myself to take the chance. I note you said that the SMG on this V10 was also troublesome (I have heard that the M5 and M6 SMGs were quite reliable., either way the engine reliability was enough to scare me off. I’ll just hang onto my E46 M3 manual a little bit longer

its based on a race car engine. race car engines are not engineered to last a higher amount of miles. 60,000 out of that piece of engineering bliss is amazing.
You missed out then. I took the chance and it cost a fortune in repairs, but it was worth every single penny. The engine was utterly fantastic and paired with the SMG instead of dual clutch was genius. Flat out gear changes were a head rocking, visceral experience. A bit understeery over 100mph, sure, but easily fixed with more throttle. And the noise, oh yes!
Owning that car also made me realise the world is divided into two types of people. Half would ask how fast it was, the other half asked what fuel mileage it got. I know which camp I’d rather be in

Good video and information! My 2013 VW GTI 2.0 TSI engine has been fantastic, but I believe VW/Audi had a few years to work out the bugs. At 148k miles, the engine has only needed the ignition coils that you mentioned. I can go 10K miles per oil change (mostly freeway) and only burns 1 qt in that time. I do know I was relieved to find that 2012 was the last year of timing chain tensioner issues! I believe a recent complaint of these TSI engines is an intake manifold leak which will cause the Check Engine (MIL) light to come on due to the unmetered air causing a leaning condition at idle. Not a mechanical issue, but still a problem. Overall I have been thrilled with my first German car. I'd buy another GTI in a heartbeat if I were in the market.
I had a MK 11. 8v GTI Bullet proof. VW’s now are no better than anything else. They are not bullet proof or any good, ask any AA mechanic. Buy Japanese
The TSI manifold has a swirl air butterfly near the intake valves. The plastic gets play on the shaft. When the ECU can’t control the shaft via feedback to the position sensor. The check engine light comes on. Replace the whole manifold assembly.
My experience is very similar. I have a 2013 VW Tiguan with a 2.0 TSI that has 164K miles currently. Two of the coils failed at around 150K. I changed the first, then the other three when the second failed a month later. It burns about a quart of oil every oil change (@ 10K), and I have to top it off every few weeks, but that's normal for most cars I've had with high mileage. I keep a little in the back just in case I need it. And I have a persistent 0299 code from the waistgate flap on the turbo not sealing well (apparently they can deform over time from heat), but it's mostly just a nuisance code that I clear and forget. This little car has been a workhorse for me.
I received a notice from VW that they're extending my warranty on my 2013 VW CC to 120k but only if the CEL comes on AND it's the plastic intake manifold leak problem....This thing has been a headache the last 3 yrs. I bought it from Avis at 26k miles. It was sill newish until the water pump started leaking and the PCV breather started causing misfires and one fuel injector failing.
I didn't realize these TSI engines need a carbon clean every 50k and it's not for the faint of heart.
Mine hesitates on stepping on the gas and still does after replacing the breather assm. I've ALWAYS used Premium fuel, but who knows what the renters used...no doubt regular unleaded.

Great video! I would have added also the Mercedes M272/273 engines, which were subject to a class action in the U.S.. I have one in my CLS but as soon as I found out about the problem (wear on the gear that drives the balance shaft in the V6/ idle shaft in the V8 leading to massive engine failure) I had the engine pulled out and the gear replaced. Better to spend $2,500 preventively than $8-10,000 when the CEL comes on. The stupid part cost only $250, BTW.

Great video! You see a lot of cars like these in those fly by night car dealerships, the "buy here pay here" dealers that cater to poor people with bad credit. The dealers buy them dirt cheap at auctions, clean them up nice, and people who are desperate for a car make overpriced payments on them thinking they're getting their dream car, and it ends up being a whole bunch of problems lol

Got a 04 Pontiac grand prix that has 267275 miles on it 3800 great car almost 18 years old and still going strong
GM wanted to axe the 3800 in 1999 but kept it in production because customers wanted it until the late 2000s. The Buick 3800 was a fantastic engine for its time.

I am the old school.I don't care what the manufacturer says,I always made the first oil and filter change at 1000 km.After that I change every 10.000 km or max 12 month's.Always quality oil and not overfill.And by the way,the best engine ever built are Volvo B23,you can't kill it....
I have the 2013 Escape SE with a 1.6L Ecoboost engine. This was the year before Ford changed the engine design in order to increase HP, which resulted in coolant eventually leaking into the #2 cylinder. My Escape has 150,000 miles so far and is still going strong. Very reliable vehicle with only a few, minor problems.
I had a 2012 bought new in 2011. It was reliable for me also.

2013 escape turbo 1.6. Just changed oil today ! 217000 miles ! Run royal purple no issues with vehicle but radio don’t work. All else on screen works but not radio or Bluetooth for phone. !

2014 Escape SE 1.6L Ecoboost with 125,000 miles on it. Still running strong.
Transmission and battery at 100k. Coolant bypass valve over a year ago. Tires twice, brakes every few years and oil changes every 5,000 miles.
I have to replace the backup camera. It goes blank or flips upside down intermittently.
I’ll keep my 2010 Ford Ranger .257,000 miles and never had a mechanical problem. Almost no oil use between changes at 3,000-4,000 miles.

My M5 started going through 1 quart of BMW oil every week when it got to about 75k, maintenance on it was killing me. But when it was driving right it was a beautiful ride.
They are great top drive but you are right, big bucks to keep it right.

What in the everloving fuck?! My mid 80s Ford with 330+ thousand miles on it barely uses any oil at all over a 5k oil change, yet your M5 was sucking a quart down a week?!?!
I had a 2012 Hyundai Tucson with the 2.4 liter engine that spun a rod bearing, same issues with the Santa Fe and Sonata's. Hyundai wouldn't repair my Tucson even though it had the same engine. Only had about 81,000 miles on the engine. Never will buy a Hyundai or Kia again!
The Nissan KA24e in my 1995 D21 King Cab has been 281,000 miles, plus all idling, hasn't smoked or blown a head gasket yet. Easily passes emissions (AZ) and has a 5-speed, so no tranny to break either.
This guy's videos are awesome. One of the finest usages of UA-cam is people who know what they are talking about, telling it like it is. Definitely automotive advice to be considered seriously.

My 2008 2.0 petrol mondeo may not be quick or flash but its done 155k miles and uses only a fraction of oil between 12k services. As far as I know it still has its original cam chain and is super quiet. But to be fair it does have a Japanese design duratec engine which whilst not being overly fuel efficient is extremely robust.
i have a similar case. Mercedes B Class from 2005, with 2.0 Petrol 5 Gear Manual. Everything is untouched, still runs smooth and Silent after almost 20 years. Robust Engine.

My 2011 Kia Optima turbo engine did go at 180000 km in 2020 , but at least Kia replaced the the engine at no cost and gave a lifetime warrantee on the engine. Thus I bought a 2020 Teleuride.
The wheel on my Z06 cracked on-site 2000 km ,Gm would not even give me a discount on a new wheel had to pay over $1000 for a new wheel.

Absolutely, Honda and Toyota are reliable all round. One of my family members chose to buy an X5 and had leakage issues from the sunroof , this is poor for a car that's less than 3mths old

@@JatXoc Honda's K24 series is one of the most reliable 4 cylinder engines built. I have owned both German and Japanese cars and have found that there is less reliability issues from the Japanese especially Honda and Toyota. Having said this I have found Mazdas to be less reliable.
Honda engines needs valve timing they are still old school if they burn oil that could be one of the problems

My neighbor has an RX-8 just dead in his driveway for 5+ years now.
Only reason the rx8 was so bad was because ford had to put there dirty hands on it and ruin it made it so it didn’t burn oil like they natural do and the apex seals were not the same quality as the old ones plus many other factors like emissions but mazda is building it again

2.3 is solid early 2.3 2015, 2016 have timing cover leaks on some but solid .motor will make it to 100k + easy..3.5 will hit 100k just gota keep.oil regular change & use synthetic if its a Eco 3.5 with turbo, turbo motors run hotter..2.7 eco is simular to 3.5 eco just change the oil regularly those motors dont like prolonged oil my cousin blew his 2.7 eco ran conventional with prolonged changes..All Eco engines before 2018 you need to add a oil catch can because of carbon build up on the back of the valves.

I will put it this way, my 2011 3.5l ecoboost has nearly 250k miles with no major issues, repairs, or failures. So far the only problems have been an exhaust gasket leak at 228k miles, a failed air conditioner compressor at 232k miles, and a water pump failed at 234k.
Obviously, the AC failure was the most expensive (about $400 for all parts including condenser, seals, and compressor). The water pump was a $59.99 part. I don't remember the exhaust gasket price, but it wasn't an expensive part.
I have never had an oil catch can, but I am sure that it would not hurt to add one.

My e60 M has 104k and still going very strong. Almost as if you take care of it and treat the engine like the supercar powerplant that it is(~100bhp/L), it won't spontaneously explode at 50k miles.
It's all good though, all the negative press just makes these wonderful machines that much cheaper.

Interesting comments re Toyota. My partner has had since new a 1993 Corolla Seca Hatchback with the 4A-GE 1.6L 4 cyl. (I also owned one from 92-1999 before going to a V8) the Toyota will just keep going and going, rev to 7,700 and love to be driven but don’t have any real torque. Very little service cost or problems, great motor. Cheers.

The BMW V10 is great if you have a lot of money to modify it for reliability and keep it preheated in a garage before you drive it. You can modify also the 2.0 TSIs for reliability much cheaper, most newer ones only need a catch can + normal maintenance to last a very long time. They can hold some very good power as well.

My 2012 Audi A4 was also problematic. Fuel pump and water pump failed before 40k. The pistons, rings and timing chain were replaced at 55 k because of excessive oil consumption. Still own the car at 64k. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Yes thats true , even my vw cc 2013 I buy it with 27k miles and when was 39k I change the water pump, fuel injection ect . In 44k miles I just trade it for subaru legacy 2014 and I'm happy and no light in dashboard

Burning oil is a result of not doing a run-in on the engine, and a droplet getting past the rings... nothing that you can do now, it may turn you off the brand entirely, but it was, at one stage, a preventable issue

Don't judge a car based on brand - the Audi in North America is different from Audi in Europe because Audi NA is built mostly from Mexico, and Audi EU is built from Germany... The build quality is better from EU made cars, because that's what they do and are known for. Luckily my VW is EU made and no oil burn issue, then again, I also purchased brand new with 15 miles on it and did the run-in myself.
I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla with 490k miles on its and still runs great. It has original engine and transmission, no major repairs.

Never believe a manufacturer who says 15k mile oil changes. I feel like they know if you do that it will give up the goose as soon as the warranty expires
I stick with 5K regardless.
Common sense dictates they want to reduce the lifespan of your car so you will want to replace it in 5 years or less.
I stick with yearly service`s with my 330e lol, and i barely drive 1900 miles a year.
15k miles is 11k too many.

Why?Just look for one with the 2.0 ecoboost and you will be fine. Actually I have seen many "14 escapes with high mileage so dont believe everything you hear.
My wife bought a used 2014 Escape with the 2.0 ecoboost engine with zero problems. Has over 60,000 miles on it. I personally change the oil at 4000-5000 miles. We have only put tires, windshield wipers and a battery in it. I have a 2018 ecoboost Mustang with zero problems also.

Just don’t get a 1.5… the 2 liter doesn’t have the head bolt/head gasket problem. Get a 2.0 and change the oil at3-4000 miles and you won’t have problems. Plus they fly for a little 2.0. The mileage isn’t the greatest though.

The only problem with Subaru is that they stubbornly, almost masochistically, refuse to abandon that archaic boxer style engine of theirs. They'd be right up there with Honda & Toyota, maybe even surpassing them on some levels if they did.
I remember when their slogan used to be "inexpensive and built to stay that way". But these days they keep pushing the bleeding edge of performance and technology just like BMW does, and are no better than BMW.

Lol I had the same exact problem with the catalytic converters on my Nissan Ultima. Instead of replacing them, I just cut them off and drive without them. I'm sure glad that I live in South Carolina which has no auto inspections😂😂

The only way to own most German cars, and I have had a few, is to lease them for three years. Drive them the way you should drive an expensive “high performance” car. Right before it would start taking alligator size bites out of your wallet, turn it back in. Once you get that out of your system, buy a Lexus and keep it for 10-12 years!

I remember visiting BMW Edmonton every week so they could add 3-4 litres of oil and record the mileage driven of ~600-700km, because they did not initially believe the oil consumption I claimed. Then they had the audacity to quote me $12000 to fix the problem... No thank you BMW! LOL Good video Mark!

Funny... the 2.0 TSI in my 2010 Golf VI GTI hit a lot of the "marks" you mentioned. Busted water-pump, broken ignition coil ... oh, and then: catastrophic damage to the top-end (probably due to faulty chain-tensioner .. can't be sure because it "luckily" happened to the poor guy my dealer sold the car on to). As an added, non-engine-related bonus, the AC-compressor also croaked.
I had the Mk V Golf GTI before, which had the EA113 (timing belt) engine and that one was totally trouble free - and I put about 20,000km more on it than on the Mk VI.
Retarded timing chain design and stupid quality control on the selection of the pistons. "German quality".
We bought a new 2020 Kia Sorento last August. It has 9,000 miles on it and does not burn a drop of oil, oil stays very clean too.
I changed my own oil in it at 1,422....4689....and 7808 miles. I use Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 5W-20 and genuine Kia oil filters.
The Sorento is a dream to drive, entry and exit is nice and easy too.

Just had my Sportage combustion chamber flushed by Kia at 68,000 mile due to using a qt of oil every 400 miles, now have to go 2 weeks to see if it helped.
I saw that white Kia SUV thinking u were about to say that the 3.3 liter GDI was unreliable but u said the 2.0 and 2.4. I was like that makes way more sense lol.

Never heard of or had the problems he speaks of with the Altima. We bought a new 2002 and had it until 2017 . It had 265k and oil consumption until we sold it was maybe a half quart ever 3000 to 4000 miles. Now here were the problems. Head gasket blew at 122k, air conditioning clutch, 6 belt tensioners, 3 crank sensors, 4 camshaft sensors, transmission at 212 k . One time the lights wouldn't turn off until I disconnected the battery. The shifter interlock broke after 4 years so I rigged a piece of plastic to hold it down with the cover piece. The weather stripping around the doors was garbage. This is why I will NEVER own a crappy Nissan again they are the Japanese version of Chrysler/Dodge. From now on its Honda/Acura and Lexus/Toyota.
Toyota? My Tacoma was such a lemon my son nicknamed it the Lemona! We also had a 2008 Civic that was a pile of junk. We learned the hard way that Honda is NOT a friendly company to deal with. Four years after trading it in We received a letter notifying us of a class action lawsuit against Honda... and if we had any receipts for the multiple front tires that needed to be replaced (impossible to align correctly) we'd receive a small percentage of our out of pocket expenses in return... four years later, lol.
My current vehicle is a 2019 Wrangler Unlimited. 92k trouble-free miles!!

I agree with all of your poor engine vehicles except the 1.6l ecoboost. I have 170k on mine and if taken in for the coolant upgrade is trouble free.( recall) no charge. This engine has cost me a total of $175.00 for an evap hose assembly in repairs. This does not include maintenance items like plugs, oil and filters. But I maintain my vehicles and change oil before manufacture recommended intervals.
I have 275k on my 2.0l ecoboost and it’s still going strong. They are exceptional engines, as long as the owner/operator maintains it properly.

I had a guy in a ecoboost f150 and didn't change the oil and he finally brought it in just to find the dipstick looking like it's been used as toilet paper after a bad night at taco bell. Although I fucking hate doing oil changes on the eco boost trucks.
The 1.6 was a good engine, and the 2.0 probably is with the new block. They replaced the 1.5 with 1.5 3 cylinder which seems to be much better too.

Highlander 2006 4 cylinder 2WD 230,000 been sitting for 16 months...just bought it from a kid at work for $100. Triple A used a jump box and drove it up the flat bed. Ive been driving it ever since. Expo car lot will give me between %6,000 - $7,000 for it.
I've owned 120+ cars in my life. I haven't owned any of the ones mentioned.
I stick with Fords, Mazdas mainly. Ford Tempo-450,000. Mazda truck 275,000 when I sold it. Didn't use a drop of oil. I have a 1978 Dodge 318 with 75,000 original miles. Purrs like a kitten.
1970 El Camino. 1979 Trans Am. 1965 Nova. 66 Malibu. 75 Impala. All of them 100,000+ miles.
I don't use anything lighter than 10w30. Ever. Sometimes 10w40.
In South Africa we call the Ford Escape a Ford Kuga. A lot of these cars burned. This also caused deaths.

Never heard about the fire in the old models, only on phev Kuga, but it was a battery failure, not the car itself 🤔
