    In this week’s video, I build a jig that allows me to cut dowels in multiple diameters to any length accurately, and perfectly square every time. This jig will be an add-on to my existing cross-cut fence and will fit right onto the T-tracks I made for that fence.
    This jig is perfect for cutting custom lengths of dowel or for making your own dowel plugs.

    Indeed cut dowels on the miter saw can be dangerous and this idea you have is a safer option. I really like that your solutions are always "do" and not "buy", earlier today saw a video that was more telemarketing than a woodworking video, all was buy this buy that. That for showing your ideas right now will go to my scrap bin to start making this jig 😁

      Thanks Eduardo! My content is all about coming up with a shop made solution rather than go out and buy it. Otherwise, what's the point of having all these tools? Cheers🙂

    This is one of those things where you say to yourself. Hey now why didn't I think of that.

    Nice jig build Eric! I was wondering how you cut exact lengths on the dowels? I noticed that you did measure from the end of the jig but you would still have the distance from the blade to the edge of the jig to factor in. However, if the cuts really don't have to be that exact, I guess that it wouldn't matter anyway.......... 👍👍😉😉

      Thanks Steve! The jig is made up of two 3/4" pieces of plywood. When you cut the slot in the center, make sure you leave 3/4" to the right of your blade, if you're standing at your saw in cutting position (don't cut it dead center). That way, when you measure for the length of your off-cut, it will be whatever dimension you want minus 3/4". If you're making plugs you can put a scrap dowel piece in the off cut end to act as a stop block. That way, you can make identical dowel plugs plugs at any size you want.

    what type of plywood do you use for all these fence and jig projects

    • @EricSorensenCanada
      @EricSorensenCanada  3 роки тому

      I mostly use 3/4" shop birch or whatever 3/4" plywood I have in the scrap bin.
