This song has a beautiful haunting melody. The music video features Madonna as a witch-like who shapeshifts into a flock of birds and a black dog. It received an MTV Video Music Award for "Best Special Effects" in 1998.
_"unfortunately about 90% of the world do not open their heart"_ *_"I feel like that's the most Madonna song"_* Well, I guess I'll have to subscribe. I really really appreciate when someone has the sensibility to see the beauty and the truth behind a song that was made from the heart. This song is definitely one of them.
This was a great analysis on the spot based upon hearing the song. An unique and deep point of view from biological and psychological perspective. Thank for sharing your thoughts!
I have the heart of an empath. It doesn't matter how hard I try to close my heart, it remains eternally open and I bleed for other people's pain. I was told once, it's the blessing and the curse of being an empath. We just can't freeze our hearts I guess. I have wished a million times.
I think I love everything about this song! The lyrics, the music,Madonna, the meritorious video, it’s like when you being in a dream. This song one of the top songs in the music world in my opinion. Thank you Anton 😌
Madonna is versatile, but she is also evolving. It took about 15 years to come to this musical highlight. If you follow her art in chronological order, it makes more sense, where she's been through in life and artistically. After all the sexual, religious and controversial things she's done, this was a huge switch, but perfectly fitting and ahead of time. Madonna is an amazing songwriter, which should be more appreciated. This song is in my top three of best Madonna songs. The 'Ray of Light' album, which this is from, might be her best.
There's so many ways to interpret this, which is the beauty of music. But to me it feels like inner dialogue. Telling herself you have to try, or your heart will starve, freeze, die. The transforming from different life forms representing the ever transforming heart and how we love.
I have been a big fan of Madonna and this song and video is one of her best! I also listened to your reaction and your psychology background and I actually learned things from you that hit hard to my core, Thank you, 🤔
Madonna is the reason so many women are taken seriously in the music industry today. There were plenty of female artists before her that were paving the way but when Madonna broke through and found a global audience like never before, the industry had to pay attention. Her work ethic, ability to absorb influences and her desire to shape-shift and evolve her sound is so impressive for an artist at her level of success. To me “frozen” represents the antithesis of what Madonna represents, she has never been frozen in her artistry / vision but always willing to open herself to new sound, new ideas, new song writing partners, and new audiences. That’s incredibly risky once you’ve made it to the top. More often artists settle into a predictability or comfort factor to do what they know, sounds familiar and have already done. Madonna’s artistic vision remains unpredictable even into her 4th decade. Although plenty of fantastic female performers have risen over the past few decades, there will never be another visionary risk taker at this level on a global scale.
Madonna is a master of the ballads. You'll see, Crazy for you, Oh Father, Look of love (always overlooked) Take A Bow, Ghosttown, Power of Goodbye, Live to Tell etc etc
Madonna is a creative genius. You're so right, no one can really cover this song, that this is a glimpse into her deepest soul. So much depth and mystery in this masterpiece.
She has so many less known but still impressive masterpieces - Bad Girl, Oh Father, The Power of Goodbye, Time Stood Still, Spotlight, I'll Remember, Masterpiece, Ghosttown, Rescue Me, Bedtime Story, You'll See etc
At the time I found this song to be incredibly healing for me. I wasn't expecting to receive healing from Madonna's music. I guess my heart was open as the song says . But yeah, Madonna seemed to have turned the corner at the time and really channeled some powerful stuff.
Here we are, in 2022, and people just start discovering the massive power of FROZEN. It is not a "ballad". It is a piece of modern classical music. Face it.
Her "'Ray of Light" album depicts her spiritual/philosophical journey after the birth of her child. I would argue that her previous albums explored desire (sexual and emotional) much more and that this album shows growth away from 'base' desires to a more self-reflexive and spiritual self. This album is a masterpiece and her most highly acclaimed. The archetype/energy she embodied in the album is that of a wise and maternal goddess.
I really enjoy your REACTIONS to her videos. You dissect them in an intelligent way. Some reactions by other folks are almost painful to watch. I enjoy your analyzation. 💜
In this video she is representing the ancient greek Goddess of witches HECATE. She is a triple & one Goddess, she dress in black, her animals are crows and black dogs, and also have the Keys of the Other World ("you are the key" she sings). So, she says "open your heart" and "give yourself to me" so you can be unfrozen ...
Hi Anton, Fascinating analysis of the song Frozen and Madonna. Also thank you for giving us a deep insight into your being. You are right we are all frozen in some sense. I really didn’t expect such a well thought out interpretation of this song and the visionary artist Madonna. Great reaction and I feel enlightened after listening to your thoughts 😊. Thank you 💛.
Another turning point of her career, sound, style, attitude. She had just come off of the praise from Evita, had her first child, which definitely changed her music. Without completely kissing goodbye to her past, she was finally at peace during this time. Every album she has put out, there are details she puts into her music about herself, her world, disappointments, accomplishments, her loves, you name it. She constantly surprises with each release and slips into a new skin. Sure, the are better technical and studied singers, but no one as natural sounding and emotive as Madonna. She's proven that she's a whole lot more than pop music.
Hahhaha! You! So perfect! I'm a Madonna fan since 1983. I thought about doing psychology, but it was not enough for me, so I did international relations and social psychology (now have a Ph.D in Politics). Almost all of my childhood friends are psychologists now, the others politics or education/human resources. And I did astrology, started in Italy when I was over there. What you said about archetypes is the thing that I've always thought that astrology was about , since the early 1990s. I've blown away psychologists and married couples that I've never met before just by reading their charts in parties that I attended. (Mind you, I'm a Scorpio with just Saturn and Chiron above the horizontal level.) Nevertheless, this is irrelevant. What I wanted to say is this: You have a worldwide audience of Madonna fans and your analysis of her has so far been the best I've heard. Why would you quit on that? Madonna is the source of a lot of pop culture... Just saying.
This music video is a masterpiece of art. I remember I watched this back in 1998 and I loved the concept of that video. A very deep spirituality and haunting at the same time.. I suggest you to watch another video "Nothing Really Matters." Another piece of art of her video..
Wow....This video is unbelievable! I was there when it came out in 1998. I was already a diehard fan. At that time, I was so into listening to what music she was putting out. The videos where definitely a bonus and great. As I watch these videos today, I get to watch her videos with others perspectives and reactions. Her performance in this video is mesmerizing and brilliant. Watching her move and interpret this song on video is sublime. I guarantee what you see from her in her best videos, nobody can replicate.
Another song by Madonna that is similar is "Paradise not for me" you should add that to your list. Or just watch it privately. Beautiful video and song.
Re watched this again.... i just love this album and track.. She was just so phenomenal at this time . So original but so surreal and creative.. ... she fits into a fantasy mixed with dreams. William Orbit really was so amazing with his sound at this time
Again ...gotta love this woman. What other female artist has so many looks..so many different on trends that moved with the times and exceptional production values . Please play RAIN !!!!! XX
M said she was inspired by the movie "the sheltering sky", it was about a couple that went to the desert in Africa to try to resolve marriage problems, if you look at the poster of the film you can clearly see the first scene where M floats in the desert. Other inspirations came from Martha Graham who M met in NY at the dancing school and the ballet piece was called "Lamentation". The interpretation of the 3 Madonnas is likely to be the triple goddess Hecate, a sacred female in Greek mythology, and she was accompanied by barking dogs.... the 3 figures represent the virgin, the mother and the crone... there is a lot more about this video and there are analysis that can be found online....
Interesting. For some reason, the image of Madonna against the background of the desert in the video has always reminded me of Joni Mitchell's haunting album jacket to 'HEJIRA.' (Also, 'Hejira' means journey.)
The reason for this album being so spiritual and sincere was exactly when Madonna started to study Caballa, around that time is when she had her first child ( watch My substitute for love video and song, it summarised so well how she felt about money, fame and her new way of seeing things ) around this time is when she married guy Ritchie and got pregnant of his son, she was turning 40 which it is a change of pace ( I've been there )
We see that there are three apparitions of Madonna. Coming back to the similarities of Madonna in this music video and the Greek Goddess Hecate, Hecate is known to be a triple goddess and is often portrayed in her triple form. Hecate is also the goddess of black female dogs, now, we’re not saying that Madonna is one, but pointing out the similarities, Madonna does shape-shift into a black dog-as well as black ravens, in the video. In addition to this, we can also see a variable of yoga poses and hand gestures connected to Hinduism. In the middle of the music video, Madonna reveals another henna tattoo, decorated in the middle of the palm of her right hand. It is the symbol of “Om”, which is a mystic and sacred syllable in the teachings of Hinduism. And she had just converted to Hinduism and was doing an learning Yoga at that time also.
this album was transformative.

The Power of Goodbye- Madonna
I love psychology and astrology
Magnificent in every aspect ❣️
It's beyond art!
We need more MADONNA.

My favourite of Madonna's songs

This song and music video is so mesmerizing.
The sound is based on TripHop. F.e. Björk/Massive Attack/Tricky/Portishead are posterchildren for this UK sound & movement (based in Bristol).
This is madonnas best song, i love the video so much!!!
Excellent! Thank you.

This oozes William Orbit. Love it.
i love all ur reactions, especially the ones to Madonna.

Masterpiece
I remember vividly the video premiere of this song on MTV back 1998. It was really huge.
the concept of this album was the best made for Madonna... I think this was the best album of Madonna..
Artsy & lyrically beautifully.
Seductive, "Give yourself to me."
She has so many less known but still impressive masterpieces - Bad Girl, Oh Father, The Power of Goodbye, Time Stood Still, Spotlight, I'll Remember, Masterpiece, Ghosttown, Rescue Me, Bedtime Story, You'll See etc
Power of Goodbye and Ghost town are two i love
Bedtime Story is so impressive and artful it fucked my mind when I was 16, back in 1996 when the video came out
@@jackjackson3769 exactly those are my two best. Just wow
Madonna catalogue is so HUGE and WONDERFUL never ending....

Oh Father ;is a Madonna ballad you would love, with the instrumental and the psychology behind the lyrics.
fun fact madonna was studying kabbala and india spirtuality during this period of her career my brother met her at the kaballa center in nyc once
From the Ray of Light album which for me is my favourite Madonna album.
