I'm an old man that grew up listening to the original as a kid.......hands down this is the best version. I love it!!
I'll have to agree with you old man, though I am also hitting old codger status.
I'll shall put it with sound of silence, cover: disturbed, and hurt, cover: Johnny Cash.
agree
mee too now 54
Came for the popcorn, stayed for the metal. Fantastic interpretation and brilliant playing!
Thank you 🙏🏼
As a 65 yo retiree, I approve this rendition of one of my favorite songs from the past. Thanks for sharing!
R.I.P. Gershon Kingsley who created this song in 1969, died on December 10th - and thank you to Charlie Parra who made this iconic cover!
There is enough metal here to rebuild the Titanic! Fantastic!
Jeez this was good 😂
maybe rebuild a boat that hasn't sunk once already?
Lol. I enjoyed it.
Titanic was made of Iron
@@crookedman5896 isn't Iron a form of Metal?
My coworker (for national popcorn popping month) has been sharing covers of the popcorn song in the work chat since the beginning of October, and yours is my favorite so far ❤
Cheers to that!
I will say this again, this is AWESOME!!! I loved this song when I was a kid, listened to it over and over again. Played the drums to it, but never metalized it. This guy kicks @$$!!!!!
100,000 views!!! Muchas gracias a todo!!!

I was about 10 of those views.
But I shared with many people soo. I gotcha back bro.
thank you man, i hope to be better in this roll
Hey Charlie, quick question for ya, cause I respect ur opinion... Are u a fan of Alex Lifeson?? (Rush)
That stare in the first 10 seconds though.
+Mustafa D.
I was the thinking the same exact thing. That stare was so awesome. It was such an awww shut it's about to get epic here moment.
instant affection for the guy
I Know right? Then the smile that follows it.
Mitya Tarasov ikr
I do that stare every day in my work.....no messing!!!
I'm 63 and this is by far the grooviest version of this song I have every heard. Thanks Charlie for the great sound.
Thank you Steve!!!
This was my favorite song when I was a little girl. This "POPPED" up on my feed and I couldn't believe it. I haven't heard Popcorn in 40 years. This is incredible.
Going to go find you on Instagram
I love when people take a catchy, usually well written tune, and convert it to a genre where I can appreciate it. Thankyou
Right. This is pretty cool.
I love how this lifts the original to another level while keeping the original.
Doesn’t matter how many times I listen to this it just gets better and better
I was a little hesitant at your intro but when your fingers turned into blurs and REALLY let loose, I was impressed. Well done Charlie!
Thanks man 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
This just had me smiling and laughing the whole time. Love the look at the beginning.
Thanks a lot mate!!! All the best!!!
***** que enfrentar y más, le felicito muy adimiro.
Didn't love the look at the beginning, it scared me xD
I did love it when he started smiling tho.
Have to admit, that I thought it was more like "This isn't going to be what you expected, but I am sure going to enjoy the ride. I reckon you will too. 😁 Want to take a Ride? 😁😁😁"
Your sinister smile, ALONE, told me you had something in store for your viewers...and behold, you DID! You OWNED that moment! Your guitar was submissive and YOU were its MASTER OF CEREMONY! I WAS BLOWN AWAY! I CRIED, I was so MOVED!
Been listening to this version for 7 year and nothing comes close what a legend 🙌 👏
This guy could play “Crying In The Chapel” and people would rock out to it. Incredible talent!
Thank you mate!!!
I remember this from the early 70's thank you so much for bringing it to modern times!
Cheers Mike! Its available on Spotify too!
it was way before the 70s
I like it, although the Gershon Kingsley, version just sounds more futuristic to me.
I can't tell if this is a joke or not.
Depressed with all that's going on. Working 60hour work weeks on 3rd shift as well. Very few bright spots but this made my day thanks.
@Dave B. LOL thanks. I need to make a roadtrip.
@Dave B. Kansas. I know people have mail ordered them doesn't sound like a good idea to me.
Back in the day I loved it and still do. I had a pigeon that would dance to it. She landed on a neighbour's head in his garden and .... danced on it 'ços he had it on his radio.
same on working hours, but days, seasonal mood dampened, and a sought out the popcorn song.
@@MysticSpank Sorry for your misfortune. I only put in 57 hours this week on 3rd and 5 hours on an afternoon shift on my day off. Im currently looking for another job. Problem is I do warehouse type work and they are all killing people with overtime right now and I dont know how to do anything else and getting too old to care. They are trying to get me to take a working supervisors job. More money and 70hours a week. I told them no but they keep hounding me. The seasonal depression sucks. It's not a disease as they say. It's cold and everything is dead it's natural to be depressed but the idiots have a pill for everything nowadays even if it's bs.
Have loved this song for many many years, and this guy just blows it out the park, and LOVE the cheeky grin at beginning
Thank you 🙏🏼
I'm a guitarist, a heavy metal fan, and also a lover of all kinds of music. This song was popular over some sort of cover/remix in the 80's and 90's somewhere. Listening to this and watching the videos makes me happy. Rock on my dude, you're the guitarist I used to wanna be when i grew up!!
Gracias por los 500,000 views!!! Qué divertido jaja!!!
Thanks a lot for the 500K views!!! That's fun haha!!!

Damn he tapped and did sweeps. This man put his soul into this cover! ❤ well done
WOW! I found this by accident - artistic interpretation - l want to see and hear more from this young man.
the smile at 0:09 is the best part
Your right lol
Reminds me of Ricardo Milos
I agree
Yup!
Absolutely right, he is like :
"I know what will come, but you NOT!!" 😂🤘👍
that sinister smile at the beginning…. and than this awesome transformation of this old and catchy tune!!!
Man that was a killer of a guitar solo

I don't know what possessed me to search for "Popcorn metal version" but I'm so glad I did. Thank you.
I bought a vinyl record years ago that had the original version, and when I first heard it, I felt like I had stumbled on some obscure musical wonder of the arcane past. So, it's gratifying to see it gain newfound popularity..
this song really rocks in a metal version
This song seems to be made to be covered and remixed. Hell, from trap remixes, dubstep - to VIOLIN covers, somehow there was an AWESOME example of it... And then this metal one is very awesome too. I am not sure if I have come across many songs that can be transformed that many ways and still not be bad before. Not like this one.
OMG I haven't heard this song in like 15 years! What a blast from the past. Great playing, and thank you for this :)
6 1/2 years later UA-cam decides I need to see this. FU UA-cam, I've missed out all this time.
It's that look/smile to the camera at the start "Yeah we're doing Popcorn, and we're going to have some fun"
Same. This randomly came up in my recommended today and I've never heard of this channel before. I've been missing out.
This is the sort of tune that needs to be a finale to a major rock concert. Awesome stuff dude!
One of the best renditions of this awesome piece of music.
Been waiting for a version just like this since 1972!
Two Thumb Up
This theme is so good, that everybody, in each music style, can find in it, lots of streams, lots of readings.
I love it!
Let's enjoy together!
I love how you push it to the front of the beat. Gives it a sense of urgency. And, you give it a repeat and fade ending, very 1960s.
😹😹😹showing my age now, the original was written in 1969 became popular in 1972 when it hit the charts by Hot Butter 😹😹it hit number one in many countries 😹😹I was 9 when it the charts and became my favourite still got the single from then I spent a whole month saving up my pennies so I could buy the single 😹😹😹😹 and even then it had been re iced for that single.
I love the fact it is a kind of tune that gets into your headspace and just makes you smile no matter how bad your day is. Thank you Mr Gershon Kingsley for writing this tune in 1969 millions of people over the decades have heard this tune in so many different re-mixes since that very first time 😊😊😊
That’s so awesome 😎 🙏🏼

I was just a kid the first time I heard popcorn in the 70s. Then it was in my head after all those years gone by. Not knowing the name Finley found it in different vergin's. Came across this metal vergin and loved it. Hat's off.🎸🎵

Charlie Parra Del Riego, this is brilliant, you crazy SOB:P I don't know if you've ever seen the original Star Blazers or not, the American adaption of Space Battleship Yamato. If you have, you gotta do a metal version of that theme song. that'd be nuts
Lol small world brother so do mine 😂
This came out on "Eh merikin top 40 with Kaycee Kasem" in 1969.
Love them.oldies! Well done
NICE !!!! you take this old timer to another level ! Thanks for sharing.
You make sweep arpeggios look so easy that it makes me think I could probably do it too. and at the same time it makes me want to quite guitar forever because I'm just kidding myself. That shit is impossible. My love of Popcorn brought me here. That song is a masterpiece channeled into this world from another dimension.
Hour and hours of practice to get such a deadly left hand!
Excellent work!
Thanks mate!!!
Why have I never heard this cover before, it’s Brilliant 😀
Thank you!
Love this song, you even made it better, great job
Thanks mate 🙏🏼
I remember when I saw this incredible clip 6 years ago, and know it's a nostalgia
If only i had heard this version back in the 70s..brilliant cover & WAY BETTER 🏅 😎✌🏻
Genial
I felt old when I saw the song title, but now I feel young again after the Rock version of Popcorn!!
Who ever thought "Popcorn" could sound so good. My hat is off to you my friend..
I keep watching this. As a rock/metal drummer in the 80s, I have to say,
W O W. Loved this song in the 60's!
UA-cam randomly recommended this cover to me after years of me watching this last time. And honestly, I keep having more reasons to believe the algorithm is a good thing because I never heard this cover in its entirety. You are a legend among musicians.
Thank you very much!

No...that was fucking brilliant
I grew up hearing this song a lot and I have to say that your version in now my favorite. You play it so amazing. I wish I could play it as well as you!
I'm 54 years old. This was one of the songs that I waited for to hear on the radio...in the 1970's as a child. I was familiar with Kiss and Black Sabbath and always played it heavy in my mind when I heard it. Thank you. I think that I might have imagined a bit of 'Whah' to it but that's okay. You nailed it!
Thanks for sharing that Christopher!!!
I come back again and again! WOW! Great! Respect from Hungary!
Thank you!!!
Just awesome man! I listened to this song on the radio as a kid, this version kicks butt! 👍
Thank you Greg!!!
Agreed!
I just love the way he smirks at the camera.
The smirk on your face at the beginning. Banger dude!

I come back just to listen to it again :) True talent...
Just found this and hot damn this is phenomenal.
Grandiosa canción, y lo mejor, tu interpretación... Saludos desde Colombia!
Let me start by saying that I am not a heavy metal fan. Your video probably ended up in my feed because I watch and rewatch the Muppet version of Popcorn featuring the Swedish Chef. I passed over your video several times and then, one day, decided to watch it. I am so glad I did because, first of all, you are supremely talented and I can appreciate talent in any musical genre (those arpeggios! OMG!), and second, this song translated really well to heavy metal! So while I'll probably never be a fan of heavy metal in general, I'd certainly love to hear more of your music.
There is a fine line between classical and metal. (Just tossing a recommendation in- Camel by camel- LittleVMills)
I also ended up here due to the Swedish Chef, but I'm an actual metal fan who somehow missed this the first time around. Love it when world's collide 🤘😂
Your comment lead me to another version of Popcorn. Thank you!
Like several others commenting, I too was watching the Swedish Chef. I grew up with the Muppet Show and even watch the show at work at the fire station. I said "what the heck" and clicked on this video. WOW! Very well performed by a very talented artist.
Ügyes vagy. Köszönöm. Élmény volt meghallgatni ezt a szerzeményt a te kezed által. Virtuóz!
Loved that song when I was a kid! You have really upgraded this song well - nice blend of techniques and most excellently done!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Don't care when or why this piece of music was written I think its is awesome even in 2017 .I loved it when I was a kid and still now as an adult.
+D Toohey I heard it for the first time in the movie "Detroit Rock City".
Haha used to play it in Jr high school...a long time ago. :) Great job Charlie!
This should have more views than all JB's clips together, seriously, this is art.
Awesome! Way to metal it up without messing it up! El original fue uno de mis favoritos cuando era niño. Me gusta que mantuviste las partes simples simples y dejaste que se acumulara como el original. ¡Es agradable ver a un "Shredder" que confía en su talento y no siente la necesidad de destrozarlo todo! ¡Muchas gracias!
You have come so far since then, but you have never lost your integrity or style. Mad respect to you, Charlie.
It’s been a long way and more to come. Some think I did lost it but I couldn’t give a million fucks about it because I’m the same dude, just older. Thanks dude!
WOW !!!! Excellent job for a 50+ year old instrumental that has never died.
I could keep up for the first 10 seconds.....then came reality. New life to an oldie., fantastico!!!!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
One of my favourite tunes since I first heard it in my early teens (around the time it first came out!) - and I can totally get behind this version! Damn well done! 💪🤘👏👍

I remember when I heard the original song in a Hungarian video where a guy showed bad PC games, and this version is so much better. Thanks for this music!
I can't believe a song about popping popcorn can sound this epic. It's like the popcorn is painted with fire stripes shooting like meteors through space and fighting interstellar invaders.
this just popped up in my feed again. Not sure how many years ago I clicked the like button but I remember liking it way back when ever it was
One of the few things left that's good about youtube....stumbling onto vids like this, then binge watching all of them. Great stuff.
I'm speechless. U r a genius man.
In the late 70s the news would play thisfor snow closings, we would run to the tv looking for our school.
The way he played it had me running to get blankets and jump in bed because i would be expecting 6 ft of snow.
My 16 year old son is learning the axe quickly Charlie. He's gonna love this. God bless man...
That’s awesome mate 🙏🏼🤩
I really enjoyed this version. Me gusto mucho, Senor! I am old enough to remember when it came out. You have given a very amazing and enjoyable interpretation. Gracias senor! I bounced my kids up and down on a bed as I sang this song (they were the popcorn), so i have double happy memories of it. Gracias por su trabaja. I am glad you have reinterpreted this awesome song.Good work! Thank you from San Antonio, Texas, USA.
