William reading Rebecca’s letter at the end of this episode broke me. His pain over not being able to have a relationship with Randall was palpable. Absolutely incredible acting.
When Rebecca went to meet William my heart broke. I could see her struggle and how she could see her son being taken away from her. That's all she saw. She loved Randall so much. She was a Momma Bear fighting for her cub. That tear that came down her face. As a Mom I felt for her. She had already lost a child. She couldn't lose another one.
Just beautiful. I wish every boy had a Dad like Jack Pearson. My own boys have had a tumultuous relationship with their dad. I so wish they could have had a "Jack".
I liked the fan segment when they were reading comments from fans instead of hearing voicemails. I hope they continue to do it this way. It was very fun and light and interesting.
Wanted to say this too. My father, some of my siblings, and I can roll our tongues, and my mother and other siblings can't. And the tongues of those who can't most definitely looks like Jack's tongue in that scene
Let me say my oldest son was adopted as an infant through Catholic Services & a closed adoption. One day he was around 2-3 years old A young woman ran towards him and took his picture. I was absolutely shaking with fear. ( this was in mid 1970’s so camera/film/ drugstore development). We had been given non identifying info on bio mom. Slender blonde hair and green eyes. We weren’t close enough to her to verify eye color (lol) but I was paralyzed with fear. Mandy Moore was riveting with Rebecca’s fear. As she told Jack “she couldn’t loose Randal. Remember I was a young mother & had received my son as an infant. I am now the approx age Rebecca was at death. Mandy you gave a stellar performance throughout the years. Believe me I lived it. Interestingly, my son never wanted to search or look for his bio Mom. I brought it up when he reached 18. I offered him DNA test & registries. He refused. I have actually scoured adoption reunion registries because as a Mom I would like to leave this world giving both the chance to meet. I wonder after all these years if the young woman that took my son’s picture went in to develop the picture and see her son. Great show. I’ve watch twice.
My best friend would tell me about your amazing show and tell me to watch it , I waited to start watch after she nagged me for a year thru the first season to watch. I kind of knew the premise and was dealing with my fathers failing health and his passing I didn’t think I could watch it , when I finally did start the first season, I believe it was during the break in season 2 before the big reveal how Jack had died , I was hooked and binged it on Hulu . I finally understood what she was talking about, let me say through that first season she was also caring for her father who was dying from bladder cancer. It touched a place deep in my soul , reminding me about how fragile life is and how we navigate it. At the end of season 6 when Rebecca passed away I was a puddle, a mess , it was beautiful to see how her family came together to spend as much time as possible together and how life continues on enduring. Thank you to the writers , directors and the cast of actors who came into my home each week and into my heart forever. #thebigthree
Such a wonderful episode of This Is Us and the podcast. The push up scene just wow. Jack is that dad everyone wants. And to see the anguish Rebecca went through and then at the end when Randall tells her he understands but not right now…. All the different emotions, so beautiful
Please continue to pull up our comments and posts from our social media pages reacting to said episodes. I love this! 💗.... Also, Erin's tweet is exactly what I shared with my Aunt just yesterday. She is currently binging the show for the first time and has expectedly falling in love with TIU. Great summation, Erin.
This episode was so good. for me I found it confusing on who to side with, apart of you is mad at Rebecca bc Randal is so hurt and he could have had a relationship with his father and now he’s dying, but then at the same time you do understand that she’s been raising this boy and so she’s scared to lose him. But I still think at the end of the day I was so sad for William bc he always loved his child which is why he gave him up to begin with, but he also got better for his son, so go not even give him the chance to prove there was room for all 3 parents was gut wrenching. My heart felt so torn for both of them🥹 this show is just a masterpiece
I love you SKB for making that Sheriff Callie reference! 😂 it was my daughter’s absolute favorite show for years and I was able to get my Mandy Moore fix 🥰
My white nephew and his white wife adopted a baby boy from Uganda 12 years ago. Last year they took him there. It was life changing for him to see people who look like him. He was offer a trip with his dad to anywhere this summer, and he chose to go back to Uganda.
What I got from it was Rebecca was having such a hard time thinking about maybe Randall would be taken from her, but in the beginning when they brought Randall home, she was having a hard time connecting with him and I think the connection came short years and she didn’t wanna lose him now. It was quite the contrast of old Rebecca and new Rebecca.
This is my third (forth?) time watching the series all the way through. It is my favorite show EVER! I was trying to watch one episode and then listen to the corresponding podcast, but I couldn't do it. I am several episodes ahead. Love it so much (both the show AND the podcast!)
siblings are epitome of love-hate relationship. We're all for This Is Us meta, gift that keeps on giving! that's such an interesting BTS fact about character names
I think Rebecca was right to keep William while Randall was a child, especially since Jack was a great father and child Randall COULD have potentially just wanted William. That said, she could have (and probably should have) told him at maybe 18 where Randall’s maturity could have been at a place where he wanted William in his life but still Rebecca (and he did at 36)
Tongue rolling (the sides of your tongue meet at the top to make a tube) is a definite genetic trait that not everyone can do. My husband can't do it. When he tries, he simply sticks his tongue out...just like Jack did.
Ok I have to say, I understand Randall was upset but am I the only one to think that it was a bit silly and immature that Randall was writing reasons I'm mad at my mom. LOL
The fan segment topic makes me sad. Not all siblings are close. Some of us don't even speak. It's amazing how different two people who grew up in the same house with the same biological parents can turn out.
Willia had pulled his life together he could of gotten visitation if not custody of some kind so i understand why she did what she did even though my heart broke for William too.
My brothers are 18 and almost 20 years old than I am. They were both in college when I was born so it felt like I was an only child. And they’re both like 6 feet tall and even now as an adult I’m only 5 feet. Plus they don’t have kids
I want to let yall know that this show is mine and my eight year olds bonding moment - we watch at least an episode a day together and he is learning empathy, understanding, etc through this show and conversations with me in between 🥹❤️
The fact that this show did not win more writing awards is criminal.
agreed
I certainly agree wholeheartedly! #BamaGirlInCali
Should have gave Dan more writing awards. I am also now watching another show Dan folegman wrote only murders in the building it’s good.
Literally!!!

Man.... This episode.... The push-up scene STILL sits in my mind. Beautiful scene of WHY boys need strong daddies!
I cry just thinking about it. 🥰
Just beautiful. I wish every boy had a Dad like Jack Pearson. My own boys have had a tumultuous relationship with their dad. I so wish they could have had a "Jack".
@@runnergurl61 Like Sterling said... Jack Pearson is "that dude"
I can watch Randall Laughting all dayyyyy
Absolutely
Justin filming it was unscripted?!?!? Wow!! Cause that is so on point what siblings would do!! Love that they kept it in 😂😂😂
I liked the fan segment when they were reading comments from fans instead of hearing voicemails. I hope they continue to do it this way. It was very fun and light and interesting.
The push up scene: TEARS! So touching.

“Never enough for my son”
“Alright, you win white dad”
LMAOOOO HAHAHAAHHA
For the record, everyone can't roll their tongue.
I came here to say the same thing. Being able to roll your tongue is a genetic trait
Wanted to say this too. My father, some of my siblings, and I can roll our tongues, and my mother and other siblings can't. And the tongues of those who can't most definitely looks like Jack's tongue in that scene
The back push ups was so emotional. One of my favorite scenes.
“Thanks man I’m a big boy now” LMAOO AHAJAJAJ

You guys are just truly the best.

I love you SKB for making that Sheriff Callie reference! 😂 it was my daughter’s absolute favorite show for years and I was able to get my Mandy Moore fix 🥰
This is why I love tuesdays. Such a good podcast ❤️ this show is my fave.
The scene where William read the letter from Rebecca...HEARTBREAKING.

Best podcast episode so far! Great analysis!
SKB saying for shizzle twice this episode is hilarious 😂
One of my favorite season 1 episodes. I love it all so much. I look forward to the commentary and insight you all share in these episodes.
The title of this episode the trip is sort of a double entendre because they go on a trip and then Randall goes on a trip on mushrooms
What I got from it was Rebecca was having such a hard time thinking about maybe Randall would be taken from her, but in the beginning when they brought Randall home, she was having a hard time connecting with him and I think the connection came short years and she didn’t wanna lose him now. Sterling has the best laugh.
“It’s my boy” 😭😭😭😭

siblings are epitome of love-hate relationship.
We're all for This Is Us meta, gift that keeps on giving!

Thank you for this ❤️❤️❤️ cried in this episode🥹🥹
I can't roll my tongue, but I LOVE this podcast!!!
Love that I share a name with Sterling’s son❤
56:45 Man, Sterling speaking them facts. Ya love to see it.

The cabin ❤
MY FAVORITE MANDY MOORE ❤️

Keep the deep dive of the Reddit Achives! Real time reactions are sometimes as funny as the show.
Everyone can't roll their tongue. I can but my daughter can't 😂
I really still believe This Is Us should be in Theater Theatres. It would be so easy❤
Ok I have to say, I understand Randall was upset but am I the only one to think that it was a bit silly and immature that Randall was writing reasons I'm mad at my mom. LOL
Lovely episode ❤
Love you guys! ❤
The fan segment topic makes me sad. Not all siblings are close. Some of us don't even speak. It's amazing how different two people who grew up in the same house with the same biological parents can turn out.
I cant fold my tongue like you guys :(
What Miguel 😱😱😱seriously!!
like it! stunning sharing,bye!
I liked the fan segment but i would definitely warn about spoilers. 😅
Now im crying again... Ugh lol
If he went to Howard he never would have met Beth! ❤️
Willia had pulled his life together he could of gotten visitation if not custody of some kind so i understand why she did what she did even though my heart broke for William too.
Did the show ever explain how they got the Cabin. I can't recall
Rolling your tongue could mean when one can flip their tongue upside down.
too good wow
I actually liked Sloane. I wished she had stayed longer. I was so bummed when Sophie showed up, lol
The P in SP is Pearson, no?
Didn't Miguel span all timelines, too?
My brothers are 18 and almost 20 years old than I am. They were both in college when I was born so it felt like I was an only child. And they’re both like 6 feet tall and even now as an adult I’m only 5 feet. Plus they don’t have kids
