If EAS didn't have such a terrible website, I would have been able to do the research and selections I need to do to order, long ago. I can't believe you guys are still in business, with a website like that.

Jake, two years in are you happy with your Schüco windows? We are currently deciding between Pella Lifestyle and Schüco uPVC.

We are very happy. These are four years old now. Would absolutely install them in my home a second time around.

What do you do for a screen to keep bugs out?

We don’t keep any bugs out. Honestly the comfort level is so high inside the home we don’t open the windows and doors to the home for periods of time. If we want outdoor air, we go outside.

@@jake.bruton.aarow.building Interesting. At my home it is opposite. Whenever weather allows it our windows are open. 24/7 if possible.
Anyways here in Europe it is common to instal rolling bug screen and rolling shutters on windows like these. I didn't see that option on American Architectural Supply Site.

Call me old fashioned, but is there some reason you can’t use an American made triple glazed window with fiberglass like Ultrex cladding and all of the low emissivity coatings and not wait 3-4 months and pay through nose forcargo shipping?

Great question. Unfortunately when it comes to performance we simply have found better metrics from the European manufacturers. The other thing to consider here is manufacturer warranty as well. Schuco who is the manufacturer behind these units is one of the largest in the world, if you bought the units you bring up it would be from a start up smaller outfit here in the USA that may not be around in ten years. That could be a gamble. It is possible to find quality in the USA, just a little more difficult.

I read or saw it on UA-cam, that the residential window market was getting so competitive, that Schuco decided to pull out and now only caters to the commercial markets . I wonder how that's going to effect the homeowners that bought these windows when they now may need help with parts, service or warranty claims ?
I'm quite sure these are excellent windows, quality and performance wise and they look beautiful, but I'm rather leery about dealing with a manufacturer that is in another continent . The price of these windows, has to be astronomical , I bet that 14' slider, once it arrives at your house, must be at least $15,000 or even more !!

Schuco USA is no longer competing. However these are imported from Schuco through a company called European Architectural Supply in Acton, Ma. These are manufactured in Europe and have nothing to do with the schuco usa brand. They wont be going anywhere.

Put the name of the window manufacturer in the show notes.

you need to know sth. triple glazed windows are forbidden in Germany unless you have an insulated house which usually are made of bricks or beton. Reason is: if the windows are the warmest part of the house, there would be mold everywhere in the rest of it. We got new windows in our flat in Germany and I asked the people who installed them about it. It makes sense. So If your house isn't really insulated you should take double glazed windows. But since you mostly build wooden houses. Well up to you

I’m not sure I follow. Maybe the frames of the windows are aluminum in your example and the walls are cold enough to cause the to condensate? The window being better souldn’t make the wall mold. If the wall is poorly insulated enough to get cold enough to condensate and mold it should do that worse if the windows stink too. Strange. I would like to hear more about this. Thanks for chiming in.

I cringe every time I see spray foam insulation. That toxic disaster should be banned.
