    Love the concept! But, In Texas where we have few basements, how would you accommodate for the A/C ductwork and air handler unit

      Matt Risinger and I just did a great video on vented attics vs unvented. In TX your choice may be to seal the attic and try things his way.

    From what I can tell - when drywall is the air barrier on a ceiling (vented attic) you still require a continuous polyethelen vapour retarder between truss/drywall (Canada but similar to climate zone 6) - would you think thats necessary or no? Thanks!!

      I would encourage the use of a smart vapor retarder over simple poly, but yes, that could work. If you check out some of our newer content on thebuildshow.com you will see methods that include just the smart vapor retarders from Sigs as the air barrier. This video is actually from 2019 and republished here later.

    Love the efficiency! Anyone know what gray material is used onto the trusses between the rafters at the energy-heel/vents to hold in the blow-in at 0:15 ??
    Building our own home with my father and we would prefer this material to close the gap than OSB

      That is simply the normal insulation netting to hold things back. In future builds we have used closed cell spray foam here and even Zip R scraps.

    Nice job but how are you air sealing the down lights and other perforations?

    • @jake.bruton.aarow.building
      @jake.bruton.aarow.building  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes. In many cases we build 5 sided boxes that house our lights. They get caulked down to the top side of the drywall.

      @@jake.bruton.aarow.building Good job, I did something similar with PIR scraps. Your approach is much more practical than the use of tyvek sheeting and membranes behind sheet plaster. Did you guys use a barrier under the floors to?

    So do you have to make your interior wall shorter so you can stand them up? Then shim them? Or metal stud style and toe nail each stud into place?

    whats the cost to build this, $1000/sqft? lol

      This project was pre-covid so the numbers are slightly false by what is possible with pricing today, however this home without land or septic cost just about $200 SQFT.
