- In this weeks episode, the crew is getting in to those more nitty gritty roofing details. We go in to detail about how to calculate the more complicated angles that go in to putting up collar ties and ceiling joists, as well as an in depth look at constructing a roof cricket! Crickets come in to play when you are tying a newly constructed roof in to an existing one, so this is a SUPER important step that can not be missed!

The production in these videos is great, dude. Not many can make framing a roof entertaining.

Excellent work as always guys. 👍👍🏴🏴
Thanks Tony!!
Wow, great as always!
Thanks so much!!
4 pitch, aka 4/12, is 4 inches of rise for every 12 inches of run... about as shallow as you want to go with a shingle roof when snow can fall in ur area. Two rows of ice shield (up from the soffit edge) in place of filter fabric is a great little insurance to prevent ice damming
About as good of an explanation as you’ll get right here!
4 pitch means a rise of 4 inches for every 12 inches of run. Or 4 inches of vertical rise for every 12 inches of horizontal measurement.
Bingo!
I ate crickets one time after sinking loads of pints. Nice video as per usual
Hahah I’ve done lots of stuff after sinking loads of pints but crickets haven’t been one of them yet 😅
Catherine, nice edits
She’s really blossoming into this whole editing thing!
Its a dichotomy for me, I come here to learn about birdsmouth stuff and then I think "he's so dreamy", then I'm gone for a bit noticing your new haircut....You're great eye candy Sean.
Hey I’ll take it! Glad you’re enjoying all aspects of the video
7;02 Is the board on wall level?
I’m a structural engineer. Collar ties don’t prevent roof sag or walls from pushing out, they only resist rafter separation from the ridge beam during periods of unbalanced loads.
Rafter ties or ceiling joists however do hold the roof together.
The difference is that collar ties go in the upper third and rafter ties go in the lower third of the roof.
Both of them are important part of roof framing and neither can be substituted for the other. Completely different functions.
how do you decide where to start the cricket?
Catherine: "Hey Ant!"
Tony: "Yes, Catherine?!"
Catherine: "Whatcha doin'?"
Tony: "Making a cricket!"
Hahah pretty much exactly how it went down
We call that a the long angle or long cut to whatever pitch
What's your truck of choice?
I’ve got a 2012 f250 and it’s been really good to me!

4 inches of rise/fall, per 12 inches of run on a roof plane. 👌
You got it my friend!
She's locked in for justice.
please focus on video title, you just said pitch 4 is 18deg, arctan(4:12)~=18deg, no more.
Idiots that added their screen porch on my house didn't bother, plus the room isn't "true."
For every 12" it falls 4"
Yes sir!
Hose needs camera time
He’s a fiercely private man!
Tell him his adoring fans await.
Did I miss part of the video where " a lot of details" about roof cricket you explained?? Oooo, no I didnt, because there weren't any......lol, terrible videos
