  • Millaray Jara is a 15-year-old rapper in Chile who uses social media to rally support for the Mapuche Indigenous people's fight for justice and land rights.
As Chile rewrites the constitution with the promise of better Indigenous representation, Millaray uses her ever-growing social media influence to make sure that the Mapuche voice is not left out of the conversation.
Millaray is based in the capital, Santiago. She travels to the Trawun Youth Festival in the Mapuche territories in the south. On her journey, she connects with her Indigenous roots and amplifies the marginalised experiences of Mapuche children.

Spanish is the Lingua Franca of Chile and to spread the message it does not matter how it is rap.The medium of expression is secondary, the content is the essence. Can you imagine a world without English?!!!I'm a Chinese born in Malaysia an exBritish colony and my mother tongue is English because of education but I speak 6 dialects of Chinese plus Malay,Indonesian and German(Swiss).Does that make me less aChinese.Bravo Millaray.Forza Mapuche.

65% of chilean people have Mapuche DNA but they rejected the new Constitution redacted by the Communists in power now. Go and figure it!

I could be wrong but i believe that being mapuche is more about an identity than being 💯 mapuche.
All majority chileans are mapuche mixed whit spaniards. It’s not a genetical thing but more how you view your roots, if you speak mapudungun or/and have a mapuche surname.

Interesting since she chose to appropriate African American rap to promote her and the Mapuche cause. Aborigines in Australia face the same sort of multi level extinction from both internal and external dynamics.

It's racist to say that you can't create a type of art or wear a type of clothing if you're the wrong race. Culture isn't owned by anyone. Culture is an idea. Ideas can't be owned. It's natural for peoples to share culture with each other.
