Wales was able to rescue their language from the brink by requiring it in schools and by taking other measures. Sadly in many places, Native peoples are still told that they need to assimilate. Their language is too often seen as something to overcome.

I heard Wales had one of the most successful language revival efforts in recent history.
What these languages need are a cultural movement, something akin to a national revival. I wish you and others luck.

Total respect to you our relatives to revive your language from as a maori from Aotearoa New Zealand. Your language means alot to me as there are links from the polynesians to indigenouse chile. We had to revive our language too after oppresion of the british. Wish you all the best to claim your identity as people of the land. Something you can be proud of.

@@milekrizman Well, there are several reasons why but I guess the main reason is that nobody wants to. If people suddenly wants to start talking in other language and the change is progressive and without making life more difficult (which I doubt but let's suppose it so for the sake's argument); then I wouldn't have a problem with it. But if you were trying to impose a language only talked by a minority of the country (Mapudungun speakers represent between 0,71% and 2,1% of chilean population. That 2,1% is considering anyone that knows a few words, fluent speakers are 0,71% or less of the population) and that's totally impractical as it's not even talked anywhere else, then I would rebel against it (as any other person would rebel against a limitation of their free will and autoritharism). You could say that this should be only for the native people but the thing is that 95% of chilean population has a mixture of european and native DNA (based on a genetic study made by the University of Chile in 2017) so that would be basically almost the people in the country...which already prefer Spanish. Now, again, if it's progressive and natural, I wouldn't care at all. But "banning" Spanish and imposing native languages is just ridiculous

@@jajajajajaja5708 It’s not, it’s called reviving peoples cultures and languages. If Latin America banned its native languages then there shouldn’t be an issue if it were the other way around as it always should’ve been.

Evolution... evolution... spieces come.. spieces go, ethnic groups come.. ethnic group mix.. civilizations grow.. civilizations die... just as languages will. So take it as it comes... don't complicate your short life... assimilate and enjoy your brief time in this world.

Rather when a person realizes the shortness of his life, and his eventual fate (Bones under the feet of men) does he grow more ambitious and violent, this realization tends to come to men when they grow old and frail as you, so they’d have this meek and pathetic take of yours, But when youth understand this, Little stands between them and their goals.
Although most youth are swayed by the false beauty of the withering flower that is life, many come to realize this truth and either say “oh well, man! I am still young! (Most, fallen to petty self-wile) or “Thence I strive” (least)
And of these least most would launch through a life-crusade to better his social standing, therefrom you get all your politicians, billionaires millionaires, etc
While of what remains, would look beyond this life and acquire strong beliefs. Those would be willing to give their lives for such beliefs.
      Thence you get:
Mapuche rebels Muslim Terrorists, fascists, Ethnic supremacists etc (fascists fit because they looked beyond their lives and envisioned their folk in a future setting)

Until your culture is in the crosshair, then you will not feel the same way. Natives have no obligation to assimilate on their own land, they should live proud. You either die a meek and silly people left in the past, or you fight to survive as a strong and honourable nation that will not be crushed. I'm glad many young Mapuche learned this truth. Natives must never assimilate, it is your duty not to, everywhere in this world.
