I've always wanted to build a base where you have a cool secret entrance door, yes, but you can also flick a switch to transform a whole section of cliff, having pistons open up windows and sunroofs, maybe reveal some cool artwork, decorative features etc. Or just have the base lock down at night and be fully secure but awaken each day when it's safe

Unnecessary for loop throwing an unnecessary exception being caught by an unnecessary comparator (if-elseif chain) and then finally the door opens by an unnecessary redstone signal sending a boolean==true;

I always mine it, I don't know how to use Redstone. I can do basic things of course but I could probably only make 1 or 2 of these without copying his build.

@@butters3938 He is, and always has been, a Java Redstoner. Redstone in Bedrock has unpredictable results in a couple of situations, especially dealing with pistons, so he and most other redstoners don't use it. Buy Java if you want to play with advanced redstone.

i made a minecraft video
The very first time I wanted to make a 2x2 flush hidden door was back in like 2010 or 2011...it took up So. Much. Room. You had to power the bottom pistons separately from the top ones and time them all just right...I'm sure glad that they changed it! It's much easier to do and to remember now.
Were you using Bedrock (console/ pocket edition)? I built a 2x2 flush this week on my phone and you still have to power the bottom separately. The design shown in the video only works on Java edition.
@@LegorocketsAnimation oh, no, it was Java; bedrock wasn't a thing at the time. Smart phones didn't even exist. They changed a lot of how Redstone works since then. It was probably more like 2012 ( I mis-remembered in my original comment), but the game had just come out.

I honestly like the bookshelf one the most. Its simple and can be made effective and clever by having one block of bookshelf powered and placing a lever there. The lever could then be hidden someplace else like a key.
Mumbo has literally changed my life. I used to make very bland contraptions but now I can make torch keys. Just wanna say that thanks Mumbo!!

Personally, hidden bases are great except when a friend give you coordinates to the base and then make you think your game is bugged by insisting that their base is there and you end up reloggong and getting worried you're on the wrong world but the vc group assures you aren't.... *cough* that sure would suck hahah-
I find it amazing how he spent two days making these cool contraptions when the least sus and quietest is the one where u just place and break a block

@@charliew1450 I somehow made a 2x1 flush piston door in bedrock while following a tutorial for a 2x2 flush piston door for java
I combined the pretentious entrance (item trigger hidden behind the picture), modified with a dropper to return any items thrown in, a hopper-comparator based delay, as well as the tiny hidden staircase, built in a natural villager house next to a hill to make an awesome hidden base entrance. Super awesome combination, loved trying them out; they blend in exquisitely!

Here's a way to do this without redstone:
Make the base with a ladder leading up to an enchanting table. If you crouch and use an ender pearl to teleport into one of the bottom corners of the enchanting table, you can go inside the enchanting table.

Being new to Minecraft - in terms of actually playing - I have used that last design a lot without even wanting it to be hidden. The inconvenience of having to dig open the door, collect the blocks, and put them back every time is technically minor, but the redstone has to be more satisfying, especially if it closes up behind you.
Though my favorite new idea here was the lava pool entrance. Pity any moving parts break the signs and ruin it, rather than doing something restorable, or it would be interesting to close up a hidden door under the lava layer so anybody who follows you burns up rather than falling through. Maybe have the floor of the entry chamber be a 3x3 piston (trap) door that opens up into a lava-filled chimney? You drop in onto your safe door and walk out, and push a button to open the trap door so anybody who follows you through jumps in and, if they're observant, sees the water and stuff flash by before dropping down into lava and catching fire once more. If they're not observant enough, they may not notice the flashing-by, maybe? When the trap door is open, maybe have flowing lava lining the chambers, just so that the flash is only not-lava-red when falling through the water part?
Hey Mumbo, you might *_really_* like the mods project-red (specifically PR transmission) and opencomputers.
It's essentially red stone, but infinitely more compact, and you have more control. I'd just like to see what *_you_* could make of it.

Project Red's is basically a redstone replacement, what with the ability to put it one walls and ceilings, and the "advanced circuits in a repeater-like block" stuff.

In one of my old worlds, with no tutorials or anything, I once created a 1x2 flush piston door in the side of a cliff that would only open at night. Behind that door, I had a hidden base that had another hidden base containing yet another hidden base.
