I just thought of two improvements for that lectern one. First improvement: have it hooked up to a really long delay, so the thing doesn't open right away. Second improvement: have it hooked up to a locking repeater, so that if you turn the page from the correct one it locks, and when the delayed signal gets to the end of the line, the locking repeater keeps it from triggering the piston.

Mumbo a master builder? I spend my day with builders much better than hermits. He's still got a long way to go but he is getting there. I for one am decent at building but I'm probably not better than hermits builders
I think my best trick I came up with was making an already hard to get to vault, that wasn't exactly obscured, but just private. Stores basic armor, weapons, and semi-valued items. Then, I'd build an elaborate secred door system that's impossible to know about, which stores all the real valuables. Diamonds, advanced weapons and armor.
Why the quotes? Lag is a real issue, affecting so many players worldwide! The chunks take so long to load that they load beacons into random other areas, and the items in chests take so long to load that they look for another container, AKA your friend's inventory! It's totally real!
Something I like to do, is place an oak trapdoor under a chest surrounded by birch planks, then have a chest under the trap door... I think it was oak with birch planks. Simple, and blends in well.
Hear me out: use the throwing items onto the ground activation system for the "armory" but wire it up to TNT instead. In Last Life Season 3 or some similar series, put that trap in front of people's storage rooms/chestmonster (they'll probably throw junk out of their inventory and onto the floor when organising), and watch as they hear the hiss and panic, but struggle to get out. No bait or anything else necessary.
Mumbo, not sure that you know this, but with the arrow-breaking-minecart trick, you can actually make a reusable system by replacing the minecart with a pressure plate and aiming at the lower corner of the block that contains said pressure plate.
to protect your items in an anarchy server, store them under a naturally generated lavapool. xray doesn't look through lava although block esp would be a problem, but the best way you could store them is 27 shulker boxes in an ender chest which gets you 729 slots
To get the most slots with a storage container, put a double chest down, then put shulker boxes in it. In each shulker box you can store your valuables, but in one, you put a bundle (if they don’t change the mechanic for them when they do release them in 1.19 (hopefully)) and in that bundle put an ender chest, 63 valuables, and in the ender chest put more shulker boxes crammed with your diamonds and stuff. I’m too lazy to do the math, but that’s a very secure method. So in the shulkers in the big chest are the least valuable, in the bundle is second least value, and shulkers in the ender chest are the most valuable.
Probably one of my best hidden valuable chests (I don’t make many) was one where it was hidden behind a dirt block in a hill with nothing giving it away. The way you got to the barrel was you had to place a lever in a specific spot and flick it to open the piston which then gives you access to it. And of course, the only way it was found was by an X-ray player. :( it was a really good spot though.
Sometimes finding the small editing errors makes me smile. Not because I laugh at Mumbo's editing ability(sorta), but because it is making him seem more genuine and down to Earth in comparison to large UA-camrs who are more professional and don't seem as genuine.

@@VelaiciaCreator yeah i know, i just don’t care. i need the other stuff in my hot bar much more often, so i just take the longer breaking times. i prefer the extra slot to faster breaking times.
i'm so glad they added barrels to minecraft. i didn't understand the use of them at first, but using them as combo decoration and storage myself and seeing how much Mumbo has used them here makes me feel like they're an under appreciated addition!
For some of the combination-based ones like the lectern one, having the actual valuables a good distance away from the unlocking mechanism would make it harder and more time consuming for the average thief, as they wouldn't ever hear anything trigger.
True, but then you also have to run to the door, leaving it open the entire time, and then run back to change the pages. I'd be nervous having to leave the door open that long.
One that I like to use is one I call the deadman switch. I use a trapped chest rigged to a piston that will drop the thief into a lava trap if they open the chest. Then I use a noteblock and piston as part of that circuit that is tied to another circuit, something innocuous like a door at the other end of the room or lights or something like that. You have to turn that other circuit on first, which also activates the piston to "break" the chest circuit by moving the noteblock out of the redstone path, and makes it safe to open the trapped chest.
When the build is arranged so that the viewer can't really see the block you're clicking on, like in the Decorative Button and Extra Chests examples, having each hidden container hold exactly the same items in exactly the same location kind of obscures the fact that there are multiple hidden containers- no matter which one you're opening, the result is identical. You could indicate "this solution lets you hide more than one container" more clearly in those examples by having the contents vary slightly- for instance, having one barrel hold a stack of diamonds in a slot just to the left of center, and another barrel have another stack of diamonds but in a slot just to the right of center. I love your videos- I've never played Minecraft but you make it interesting and entertaining whether it's goofing off with your friends in Hermitcraft, joking about crowdsourced ideas for redstone contraptions, or just showing off cool techniques. I've been watching for years and I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've felt confident enough to leave a suggestion on how you could improve. I think that says something about the overall quality of your work. :)
All those tiny patches of beautiful buildings make me want a Mumbo Jumbo building tutorial. Imagine seeing him talk all professional and explaining tricks for buildings like he does with redstone xD
I love the nether portal one, not because hidding stuff as i play alone, but it's super useful. Linking a portal to two portals, something i didn't know you can do. (Although i'm still kinda new to minecraft)
A good way to use the chorus door (especially in underground bases) is to go to the end of a very long mineshaft you don't use anymore, build a vault there, and cover up the entrance. It then takes a lot less trys to get in so you save chorus fruit!
You'd be surprised how many people have no problem messing with complicated redstone. I have had my redstone shops broken so many times because people think they know how to "fix" my already working redstone.
One thing I like doing is having a big painting with a 1x1 opening behind it at ground level and using elytra to get into a crawl without trapdoors. Only way to access is knowing where the hole is and having elytra
4:10 I think it would be more secure if it activated on the last turn, not the first. That way it only takes one turn to hide your items in case someone walks past and it’s safe in case someone accidentally clicks it.
@@A11V1R15 even better , you need to spin it 3 times to actually get it open ( prob by deactivating hoppers and only letting a few item get past each spin )
You should definitely implement the empty barrel/wait time system on hermitcraft, but with a bunch of actually empty barrels a red herrings - if people wanna steal your stuff, they’ll have to sit there and wait at Every Single One (and we all know grian doesn’t have the patience for that)
I remember having a thought pertaining to X-Rayers and hidden underground chests: how could a person hide their valuables underground without the chest appearing on the X-Rayer's screen? I couldn't really come up with anything good, until watching this: just put the items in a dispenser. Dispensers probably aren't a very high priority on most X-Rayers' lists, so it wouldn't be actively searched for.
14:25 if I place 4 of the book stands and make some sort of combination lock that means I can have (15 pages 4 stands, 15*15*15*15 = 50625) a lock with 50 625 possible combinations! Place 1 more stand and it now has 759 375 possible combinations...this is probably the most secure lock in minecraft, use different hiding methods for all the stands and it now becomes a mega lock. P.s. Cool locks are my favourite, I guess I'll download minecraft tomorrow and try to build this lock.
For those doing the hopper drop an item through the ground thing, you don't actually need to press a block to the ground. If you place a hopper minecart on a rail and a block right on top of the rail, the minecart will grab the item on top of the block. Nice and simple
@@ktheveg exactly, the hopper would be dropped down by one. That means you would need the barrels to be one block lower also so that hopper could empty into it (so you need a triple piston extender for the slime blocks) or you would need to create a dropper chain to get it back into the barrels. Both seem a lot more annoying than just pushing a block onto the hopper minecart.
@@bell2023 And then will stop working after you've used it ten times unless you: -Dig out and clear the hopper manually -Always use the exact same item to open it (still limited, just a higher limit) -Build storage for the junk items (same issue) -Make a dropper system that voids the item (lava/fire/despawn) You're not wrong with what your saying, but it just creates different problems that the current build has already solved with a very simple solution (push block into minecart).
I just wanted to say thank you mumbo. I've watched every episode you've put out and i listen to your Playlists while I'm working. Thank you for everything. You are awesome. Any ideas when season 9 comes out
I simply just use a small room inside an underground magma sea, which is only accessible by a extending tunnel trough the magma which opens if the tunnel reaches the room. It's not only save from griefers, It's even safe from most versions of X-ray. But I use that room mostly as a control room for the security system, which protects my entire base including my items.
If you have elytra you can also easily jump through a 1 block hole in a wall if it's close enough to the ground. You can even jump over 1.5 blocks high with elytra, though that is more difficult. But I assume a one block hole behind a larger painting would be quite secure on most servers.
So I’ve built the entirety of NASA headquarters right here. We’ve got a functional rocket ready to go to the end or the moon whenever we want and all it took was a bunch of triple piston extenders and photon propellers. Chuffed to bits, only like a 4 on the redstone scale. *It’s quite simple really*
11:42 For the crawl space you could make it less obvious without trapdoors if you fly in with an elytra. As an example, I made a UA-cam video 5 years ago, showing flying through a one-tall painting to get in a secret room.
I love how among the 'would work on anyone but grian' design, there literally is a 'use a grian storage' one. (the 'decorative pile of containers, of which just one contains anything of value')
Thanks for making this video! I've finally made the switch to java and have been playing a lot with my friends on a realm recently (one of whom was taking my stuff a couple days ago lol), so this should be quite useful!
I was surprised at the lack of a key card system in this video (or maybe I missed it) but yeah, it makes more sense to use a specific item rather than any old rubbish from your inventory

Downside is they only have 9 slots
By the looks of it, Grian’s gonna need these in his new series 😂
i have an odd feeling that next season we're gonna have the tree war but with valuables rather than trees
kinda like the egg game. you gotta find someone's valuables instead of ender egg
dude just read my name
14:25 if I place 4 of the book stands and make some sort of combination lock that means I can have (15 pages 4 stands, 15*15*15*15 = 50625) a lock with 50 625 possible combinations! Place 1 more stand and it now has 759 375 possible combinations...this is probably the most secure lock in minecraft, use different hiding methods for all the stands and it now becomes a mega lock.
P.s. Cool locks are my favourite, I guess I'll download minecraft tomorrow and try to build this lock.
I SERIOUSLY thought that intro was gonna segway into a VPN ad for like 30 seconds. Great video.
For those doing the hopper drop an item through the ground thing, you don't actually need to press a block to the ground.
If you place a hopper minecart on a rail and a block right on top of the rail, the minecart will grab the item on top of the block. Nice and simple
Without it tho, the floor that extends down would need a triple piston extender to work, much more complicated.
@@dominicballinger6536 it would be the exact same mechanism though, just the hopper is dropped down by one
@@michaelkennell2420 or it could just eat your junk item. Not hard
@@bell2023 And then will stop working after you've used it ten times unless you:
-Dig out and clear the hopper manually
-Always use the exact same item to open it (still limited, just a higher limit)
-Build storage for the junk items (same issue)
-Make a dropper system that voids the item (lava/fire/despawn)
You're not wrong with what your saying, but it just creates different problems that the current build has already solved with a very simple solution (push block into minecart).
1:07 I really appreciate the incorporation of Jimmy's building style into this video. 😏

A lot of fun ideas here, but I must admit I miss when Mumbo's valuables were 3 diamond hoes and 3 boats.
It’s a reference from 2008 lol. Had to move on eventually

Mumbo always remembers to put the download link in the description. He never misses!
It "lagged"
Yes. Where is it!
Yet he cant remember what he had to say at the beginning of season 8
Where is it tho
I just wanted to say thank you mumbo. I've watched every episode you've put out and i listen to your Playlists while I'm working. Thank you for everything. You are awesome. Any ideas when season 9 comes out
3:28 I automatically thought that mumbo had done some complicated redstone until he explained it ,the redstone on wool tricks works really well!
As a very wise mustachioed man once said,
“Be poor… this is a faultless strategy”
orrr... you could pretend to be poor
Mumbo Jumbo could be the best income tax raid officer in the entire Minecraft. You should join the F.I.B😁😁😁
10:07 I actually discovered this game mechanic by accident and never really understood how that happened until this video. Thanks Mumbo!
I’m gonna be honest, I love hermitcraft, but these videos are just so much fun
I simply just use a small room inside an underground magma sea, which is only accessible by a extending tunnel trough the magma which opens if the tunnel reaches the room. It's not only save from griefers, It's even safe from most versions of X-ray. But I use that room mostly as a control room for the security system, which protects my entire base including my items.
The fact that Mumbo is now starting to randomly refer to block palattes while looking at a build is kind of great!
Mumbo is the only youtuber that actually shows tips that I didn't knew about before
Mumbo: **is a redstone and mathmatical mastermind**
Also Mumbo: "I hope it's 33 because im not that good at counting"
Super useful. I am definitely using these mechanics to build caches all over the place from here on
I usually do the painting trick with maps, signs and a slab, so you have to shift to enter
If you have elytra you can also easily jump through a 1 block hole in a wall if it's close enough to the ground.
You can even jump over 1.5 blocks high with elytra, though that is more difficult.
But I assume a one block hole behind a larger painting would be quite secure on most servers.
ender chest
@@oldacc_ihatebrickplanet12 I use it more as a backpack and sometimes is not enough XD
I know it doesn't look as fancy but I've always preferred smooth stone slab to anvil for a sconce looking torch
Mumbo the cute little builds makes your redstone showcase videos look so much better!
I love how being poor is a solution for being robbed. Mumbo is a visionary!!
I’m totally gonna use some of these! I play on a server where people grief spawn and I’m running out of hidden storage!
Thank you so much for that update piston glitch warning for bedrock Mumbo! Helps a ton!
7:25 you can also add more pulse extender’s to delay the input of the schulker box even more
3:15 Lmao Mumbo having builder culture shock.
You know it's not simple when Mumbo says "It's pretty simple"
So I’ve built the entirety of NASA headquarters right here. We’ve got a functional rocket ready to go to the end or the moon whenever we want and all it took was a bunch of triple piston extenders and photon propellers. Chuffed to bits, only like a 4 on the redstone scale.
*It’s quite simple really*
11:42 For the crawl space you could make it less obvious without trapdoors if you fly in with an elytra.
As an example, I made a UA-cam video 5 years ago, showing flying through a one-tall painting to get in a secret room.
Except you are likely to experience kinetic energy while attempting this without cheating...
Love the new mumbuild jumbuild saga where its just 90% mumbo wanting to show off how much he's improved with his building skills.
This is very helpful for those playing on those particularly laggy servers
17:00 Don't actually pick a good one, pick 13 since literally nobody will listen to that. Then your items are safe.
12:04
This word aged well lol
The hiding spots are great, now I just need friends.
I can be your friend, I’m also lonely
8:20 you could have just used a hoe which would have automatically turned back to dirt (unless a water source is nearby) no red stone needed.
Do you always carry around a hoe with you?
@@Shadow-hm3uq well, it is one of the 5 tools (or maybe i'm not good at inventory management)

Mumbo Jumbo does.
Thanks for making this video! I've finally made the switch to java and have been playing a lot with my friends on a realm recently (one of whom was taking my stuff a couple days ago lol), so this should be quite useful!

All of these are great ideas, but what stops lag from moving your valuables into Grian's inventory?
