Let's Compare QoR Tubes vs Pans LIVE
Вставка

- Today we are going to look at the differences and similarities of the QoR watercolor paint by Golden in tubes vs pans. I have been using the paint a lot lately, in both the pan format and the dried-down tubes and today we will put them side by side to see if one is better than the other.
QoR tubes are the most affordable in tube sets. Blick and Amazon have good prices on the sets but Blick has a better price on individual tubes usually.

A few months ago I got a great deal on the Qor Pan sets on Amazon but those deals are gone. They are still a good price on Blick tho: shrsl.com/4kkhp

YES PLEASE...DO more lives of watercolor paintings!
Will do!!
Please please do the sketchbook making video🥺🙏. I've looked up tutorials before and alot of them explain how to do the stitch but as a person who hasn't done any paper crafting I need more detailed step by step how to do the more simpler things like how to cut and hole punch in heavy duty thick board, how to decorate the cover with fabric possibly, how to poke the holes in the pages correctly, how to fold the watercolor paper striaght and prevent it from cracking and what supplies etc. etc. to get and all the little things most youtubers gloss over or have to hunt down a million different videos to get all the information. Plus, I know you explain things a beginner like me will understand and give us tips and tricks to help us along the way. No pressure though. ❤😆
I agree about a sketchbook tutorial from you would be valuable. Most assume you are familiar with the tools, or know how to deal with the big sheets of paper, or what we need to buy when starting at ground zero.
Regarding lightfastness, I just discovered last night that Golden did some great lightfastness testing of the Qor paints just last year, and it's posted on their website under the watercolor section. They didn't have the new colors then, but for all the older ones they posted swatches with multiple different tint levels and also mixed with white. They call out Titanium Buff for darkening, and oddly enough, the phthalo green did something weird when mixed with white, but only in one tint level.
Interesting, thanks! I love how transparent golden is with their research!
This was fantastic. I missed the live, but stayed for the re run. Thank you for your time Lindsay. Best wishes from Scotland 🎨🖌️👩🏻🎨💞
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for recommending cotton paper even for new painters. I believe in that
You are so welcome!
Seeing you painting the poppies bring back fond memories of France! The best of times.
Yes!
Hurray for the replay! ❤ I’m excited to see the comparison
Yay! Thank you!
Lindsay… this was a blast!!! Love the comparison, but even more, the painting! Simple, quick, but chock full of hints, techniques and even dew drops! Thanks so much!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for putting so much effort into these comparisons., and explaining so much. I also really enjoyed seeing your beautiful paintings! 😉🤗
You are so welcome!
I took the inspiration you gave to remove the silicon insert in the Qor tin and combined the 4 half pan sets I got on a super deal (glad for your thoughts on recent discounts because I thought they must have fallen out the back of a truck) only two overlaps (replaced with NAY and Pyrrole Red Med) Included the 3 iridescent half pans and left out the interference colors adding some earth tones. Nice 24 half pan set. Thank you!
Happy to help!
QOR are my favorite watercolors! I wish I had caught this live
Lindsey, I think you read my mind! I wanted to get a new set of professional watercolors but was uncertain of which brand to get.
Qor was in the lead but a few people had concerns about the paint from tubes - they said they flowed too much. I was going to look for reviews from you on Qor tube paints to compare with your more recent reviews. This is perfect!
Nice!
I love this! I have Qor tubes but I really LOVE extruded pans, so concentrated! They seem to have less residual moisture in them than dried-down pans from tubes. Great video!
I totally agree!
Thanks for taking the time to do this. It's very helpful.👍
My pleasure!
Based on what I watched.. I prefer the pan sets. I have the intensity set from last year and then the newer 24 tube set.. I did notice in my palette that the pans are just more vibrant no matter what. Im loving that cerulean blue right now after watching this. ❤
Thanks for sharing!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE SEEING your artwork...beautiful.
Thank you so much 😀
Hi, Lindsay. Thank you for your video. Best wishes. ❤
Thank you! You too!
I was there for the livestream 🎉Great work Thank You 🎉 I’m expecting my portable painter today ! So excited ❤❤❤!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@thefrugalcrafter I will, thank you, I also got the set of essential colors mixing set from Daniel Smith! I have to sign up for your watercolor class next month !
Thanks for answering my question! 🎉 I had to walk away for what was to be a short bit and when I returned the stream was over. 😢 the end painting turned out really pretty 🌷
You are so welcome!
Oh I missed it. Regardless I'm excited to watch it now :). Qor is my favourite so it will be really helpful:)
Hope you enjoy it!
#replay/ why did I not get this YT notification?!? 😢 Loved your QoR comparison, and your amazing poppy drawing. Yes please do a COPIC book tutorial!! 🤞🏾🤞🏾🙏🏾✨💜🤩 Thanks for posting!🎉❤
Thank you so much!!
Sorry I missed the live, but this was SO informative! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
More watercolor and sketchbook ideas for super beginners!
Lindsay has many many easy lessons.
I do like the idea of live comparisons.
Thanks!
Thank you much for this video! I have both pans and tubes. But never bothered to find out the difference. So this is useful information for me. I kinda love Qor, and would like to expand my collection
Glad it was helpful!
Loved this! Very interesting!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can you use the Qor medium with other watercolor brands/regular watercolor paint?
It should be fine but I have not tried it.
Thanks Lindsay! Really enjoyed this!
So glad!
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching!
I believe QOR sells aquasol on Blick. I am certain I have seen/heard a watercolor artist say she puts a little in her water to keep paint wet longer on paper.
Hello Lindsay, 3 days later...... I have actually listened/watched this video 2 time now. I did fall asleep through part of the first time, but not because you are boring, but because your voice & subject matter is so soothing in comparison to what I generally hear/see. Finally, I'd like to ask a couple of questions - 1. Have you ever made your own dot cards or color sheets like Viviva watercolor sheets? 2. Was the watercolor paper (spiral bound) pad you were trying to use up in a previous video, was that the Bee watercolor paper pad from Walmart? That's what I thought it looked like. I have a pad of Fabriano (student grade I think, got at Hobby Lobby years ago) and a couple of Strathmore watercolor papers ( a sketchbook and a set of their watercolor postcards). Thanks in advance Lindsay, for everything. You have no idea how valuable your channel has been for me and my well being. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I have made watercolor sheets a long time ago. ua-cam.com/video/cD7NJ3zF_es/v-deo.htmlsi=tSGuyJPYsOeAY7R3
Yes, I swatch on bee paper or fabriano studio for consistancy.
Thank you💕
You’re welcome 😊
Hullo Lindsay, I do miss the best lives ! I do occasionally get to one yet I hit that snooze button way to much! Thanks for the replay!
You are so welcome!
I don't know of you have some poppy stamps...but this one would make a MARVELOUS stamping image. 😃
Good idea! I have done poppy stamps in the past and my current craft stash collection has one! shrsl.com/4kl1s
I would love to see you paint my favorite California poppy sometime.
Great suggestion! Is that the orange one? Send me a pic!
Can hear you very clear.
Great video! The only thing I would have wanted to see is part of the swatch be wet on dry. Like maybe leave the part above the black line dry... It would provide another data point without the variable of the exact paper wetness (it's quite hard to make the paper the *exact* same wetness for each swatch, I find. Not to mention picking up the exact same amount of paint.) But you might be right that perhaps they use wetting agent in the pans. EDIT: I see you did a dry swatch later, YAY!
I did find in my own swatching that Hooker's Green straight from the tube wet, was slightly cooler than when dried down in my homemade pan. So I do think sometimes the hue is slightly changed. Qor's Hooker's is a mix of three pigments, so that might be a factor. BTW -- I usually don't like Hooker's -- but Qor's version is an incredibly deep, beautiful and useful landscape color without mixing!
The sketchbook swatch I did is wet on dry, I did it about halfway through the stream.
Hello Lindsay, thank you for your comparison. Just as info, in case it is interesting: my dry-out tube paints have the same intensity as your pan paints. Also the first swatches had a really wired color on my screen. They looked somehow fluorescent. Not sure, if it is my screen. Not meant as criticism!!! Just to let you know, because you said you had a new piece of hardware. Thanks again for you interesting videos.
Thanks for the info, the dried tubes were just as vibrant if the paint was prewet.
@@thefrugalcrafter yes, I saw it, just wanted to confirm that I had the same experience. 😊
Lindsey, could you please take a look on the side of the QoR half pans and tell me if there are any numbers on
They are blank
They are blank.
so nice 😍😍
Thank you! Cheers!
🙂
Sea Lemon here on UA-cam has great book making tutorials.
She does!
That pink is discontinued from the granulating set
Yeah I made sure to get a tube and the half pan set before they replaced with an “Ultramarine Pink Dark” in the new line!
It's not a loss imho.
IMO Daniel Smith and Qor simply don't do low tinting paints as well as M. Graham and DaVinci. I believe M. Graham isn't using phthalo green in their viridian, firstly because they just seem like they're no nonsense. And secondly, it does rewet better than other viridians, but it's still quite low tinting and takes much longer to rewet than their other paints. Plus it doesn't look glossy in the pan. I believe it's the combo of the honey (and DaVinci adds rewetting agent) and the high pigment load. I should mention I haven't tried the new Ultramarine Pink from Qor yet; hopefully it's better than the Cobalt Green I tried from them in tube.
It's funny how brands have their awesome colors and others are meh. I've not have a problem mixing qor with other brands (some people say they don't play nice tho.)
@@thefrugalcrafter I think what they're referring to is that Qor has so much vegan oxgall for flow, that they push other colors out of the way when both are wet! Depending on what you're doing, you might love or hate that.
i find i always have to let dry tube to be sprayed with water first.
It's a good idea
Can see and hear you just fine.
Awesome, thanks!
the purple looks blue.
My camera might be off or your monitor. It's hard to tell on a screen.
If...sorry
replay, sorry i missed it.
I plan to do more livestreams:)
