Wow this gorgeous!! Thanks so much for showing us this amazing collection- collaboration!! I wish I had a US friend because the international shipping is as much the price😊 Greetings from Athens Greece
I got one of each but my most used is the folio. It is the perfect size to fit in a pouch with a collapsible water cup & pen holding board from Galen Leather (from a journal cover) to hold my brushes and pencil. Paired with an a5 sketchbook I can go anywhere. I love mixing and diluting so I configured it with an xl & standard mixing inserts and my go to 15 colors so I can paint anything. I have barely dabbled in gouache but may eventually set up my pocket for them once I am more comfortable using them. My Demi became on on-the-go eyeshadow case since I only needed 3 and all the “actual” eyeshadow cases I found were “pocket” size and too big for me.
I am a huge fan of Art Toolkit and love my pocket palette. I am so happy they are collaborating with Rosemary & Co in the UK. I have just ordered a folio palette from them which I have been wanting for ages. Now I am hoping they will also stock the covers as well. I also use Rosemary &Co brushes. I will want to get a travel set to use with the Folio palette. I currently use a water brush with the pocket palette for easy plein air.
Rhodonite Genuine is not lightfast; I believe it was tested by Kimberly Crick. And if you love manganese blue, Holbein makes a lightfast version called Manganese Blue Nova (one of my most favourite colours!). Thanks for sharing! It was fun watching!
I’m not surprised about Rhodonite Genuine! It’s hard to find good lightfast pinks that aren’t toxic. Thanks for the tip about Holbein Manganese blue. I’ll check it out. 😊
Seeing the gauche pans being filled makes me thing that enameled or epoxied magnets or like pins would be popular for artists, if they looked the same as your pans. Could make them in a whole range of colors and they’d always look like fresh new paint. Idk? Might be a cool idea
I have a couple of these (one the smallest and one the middle size) and also some other units that are similar (but cheaper). I use them all the time when out and about. But what a delight to see I can get the pans and from a business near to me - who makes the best brushes. :) I shall save for the larger palette as well. Thank you so much for this. And thank you Rosemary and Co for making these available for us in the UK. And coincidentally I have on one of my Rosemary&Co T shirt today. I strongly recommend an R13 from Rosemary.
Wait, there are T-shirts?? Oooh! ❤ I have a few of the cheaper, similar palettes too and definitely prefer the Art Toolkit palettes. They have a bit of magic about them that the others don’t. It’s going to be so much easier to travel overseas now! 😊
I have used gouache in pans for over 25 years. some folks say not to set gouache up in pans, but for me it is the only way i paint. i’ve never used Glycerin or anything else to mix with it. but that looks like a good idea to try. i paint with Schmincke Horadam and Holbein. i like m. graham too. the one paint color that i love but can not set up in a pan is Holbein Opera…. but maybe i will try to set it up with glycerin. thanks for the tip.
Oh my goodness those palettes are so small and cute! Also how have I not heard of Rosemary and Co until now?! Their stuff looks great As for other gouache brands I recommend Holbein
Omg!!!! Those small pallets are so amazing!!! I definitely need to buy all of them 😅 I'l bought a winsor newton cotman travel set this summer and I absolutely love it, but I would love something a little less chunky so I think this is actually perfect! The small pallets looks like the perfect size to clip to my travelers notebook 😍 just want to clip everything I need to the notebook so it's all in one grab and go kit
This is a great video that will help me set up my new Art Toolkit palette. Thanks for reminding me that I'd rather have bigger pans for most colors, and extra mixing surfaces are always welcome. Now to decide which of the 36 colors I picked for my folio palette to set aside for another day!
I have the pocket pallette (the business card size) and LOVE it for traveling!! I put my 3 primary colors in larger pans, then use the smaller pans for additional colors. I also made a color swatch that labrls what the colors are.
Note. I've had MGraham gouache tubes since the 1990's and came back to them a few years ago. They are all perfect after all these years and are now the mainstays to my frequently used gouache palettes. Dry and wet-- although wet some pigments want to mold. I use many brands but m Graham is my velvety favorite. Stay wet palettes need special treatments with m Graham derp blues and umbers especially
Thanks for your video; you make the art supplies look irresistible. Re gouache -- there's an American company called M. Graham that makes artist quality gouache. This means the pigments are lightfast and there is no chalk or white added. They are very different from designer gouache! I thought you might be curious about them.
this was super fun! I just ordered a pocket palette from Art Toolkit today. I can't wait to get it and play with different configurations. I've already been playing around on paper, but I know it will be more fun with the real thing. I debated on which travel brush to get and I went with the Rosemary & Co small dagger. I almost got the pointed round - I should have gotten both of them! I also debated about two palettes, one for watercolor and one for gouache. I think that eradicator might be good with gouache? I prefer a flat with gouache. I've tried numerous brands of gouache: M. Graham (which is fairly local to me), Schmincke, Holbein, W&N, and Daniel Smith. The M. Graham and Schmincke both molded, likely due to the honey they use combined with the humidity where I live. The Holbein is really good and opaque, but crumbles ALOT on a dry palette. And it can be difficult to rewet. W&N was okay, and I initially bought it for the Perylene Green color. But I think my favorite on a dry palette is Daniel Smith. It doesn't crumble. But it doesn't seem quite as opaque. My pocket palette will have transparent watercolors and I plan on carrying a little tin that has buff titanium, gray titanium (this is new to me and I thought I'd try it), lunar black (also new to me and I already love it, even though I've never used black watercolor and didn't think I needed it because I can mix blacks. It granulates in the most beautiful way. I can add it to almost every color and it's lovely. And is way less expensive than their primatek line), and white gouache. I also watch Sarah Burns and I remember at one point she either mentioned or went through a phase of using watercolor with white gouache. I thought I'd try it instead of buying/building two new palettes. But you know, I'll likely place a second order at some point - to try all their palette sizes, build a gouache palette, and get both a pointed round brush and the eradicator. I live in the next state over from their storefront, so may have to take a roadtrip up there someday!
I am a huge fan of ArtToolKit also. I however have not created a full folio of Gouache. So I am going to create a folio of my Holbein large set. I have used Winsor&Newton, Holbein and Turner. I do prefer the Holbein over all for the vibrancy of their colors.
I love this style of palette! I have a plastic, much cheaper one by fclub a touch larger than the ArtToolkit folio, it's probably my favourite of my large collection of "uncommon" palettes. I LOVE that the Rosemary & Co catalogue is true to size, it's honestly such a brilliant detail. They've been on my radar for some years now, but I haven't gotten any yet. I'd love some of their travel brushes, they look lovely.
I love Arttoolkit! I have a sweet bright green demi palette from them, as well as the other sizes. They have a great 2nds sale in the Soring. I agree on Quin Burnt Orange...I've never warmed up to it. I prefer Transparent Red Oxide , my favorite color, or an orange leaning Burnt Sienna. I love Jadeite, and their Serpentine as well. Lovely video, thanks.
Thank u once again for making me hunger y to paint again. Now I want a ArtToolKit pallet. I ve been using cheap eye shadow pallets-ugh! Time to level up. Love to watch your process of filling pans & swatching.
I'm a beginner watercolor artist and love your channel. A lot of great information. Do you have a video on how you made the color wheel you show at 19:35?
Thanks for sharing, I already used your code to make a purchase (I had been thinking about buying one for almost 4 years) I bought 2 DEMI and 1 Pocket Art Toolkit. I'm excited! 🤗
hi Leslie , i am a total newbie. Love your videos. Can you recommend how i can store and transport my watercolor supplies and micron pens to and from class? thank you
The palettes look like they could leak soft paint after use. Do they really go in your pocket after painting? Do you use certain brands that aren’t honey based?
Schminke and Holbein both make fantastic gouaches. And I also like their caps better than W&N. I have had a few W&N gouaches dry up because i unknowingly screwed the cap on and it wasn't perfectly aligned. I find it hard to perfectly align their tops. But all three companies make great gouache in my opinion. My fav may be Schminke but it's a pretty tight race.
I have a yellow question. What is your go to primary yellow? Do you prefer a cool lemon and a warm lemon? And if so what is your warm yellow? Hansa Yellow Medium? Or another color or brand?
Which one of their brushes do you recommend for an almost intermediate painter. I didn’t want to buy travel brushes until I was a little better, but am not sure which ones would be the most useful when painting outdoors.
I have several of these pallets and love them! I want you to know that I use jade green and love it! I find it works perfectly for the evergreen trees that I paint. I also reach for it when I paint cypress trees. It’s a beautiful color and one of my favorite. I also love lavender! Especially for shadows. It’s great to add some shade underneath windows and ledges. It’s a beautiful color for wildflower’s too. I’m a member of patreon so I am excited to see your mixing video over there! I’ve never tried rosemary and co but I think I’d better buy a travel set and see how I like them. I love escoda a lot and I’ve always equated rosemary and co to their level of brushes. Thanks for the video!
Yes, the Jadeite is a really lovely convenience colour! I need to remind myself to actually use it instead of mixing my own. 😊 That said, I may be a new convert to Prussian blue… I can get sooo many beautiful mixes with that! I’ll try the lavendar in shadows, but even if I never use it, the colour in my palette brings me so much joy. I’ve finished editing the colour swatching portion this morning and it’s uploading now, so it will be up on Patreon in another hour or so. 💃❤
The Daniel Smith Manganese Blue Hue is very lightfast, you can test it if you like (I have) but so has Kimberly Crick, who's basically the queen of lightfastness, and you can find her results on her channel and/or blog. 😊 (I'd test the Amethyst though, because I've heard people say it doesn't hold up so well. Can't remember where I found it anymore!)
I made dried gouache palette using watercolor blending medium. Some colors still crack, literally crumbled, such as cadmium yellow, ultramarine blue. Other colors like cobalt turquoise, naples yellow, remains ok.
The one thing I’d say about art toolkit is the maintenance. My pans have started to stick to the magnet and rip the magnet so I’m not sure how long they will last. Saying that they are so incredibly convenient that I’m willing to buy them again.
Oh that’s such a shame. They do recommend putting some oil on the magnet (it’s on one of their information sheets). Maybe that will help with the next one! 😊
it’s annoying how cute that art toolkit looks but i am also always travelling with a backpack that almost has the size of me so im gently reminding myself i dont need it
@@LeslieStrozI had poured a couple of pans without adding anything and they cracked a little but didn’t fall out vs my Holbein gouache which cracked and fell out before adding glycerin. I tried adding watercolor blending medium to the m graham and it cracked less. They rewet beautifully.
Hello ❤from Beautiful British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦 I have Jadeite in DS watercolour...i paint a lot of trees...Cascade green. Well, I like moonglow for little abstracts.
When you use the mixing area and mixing pans do the watercolors bead at all? What is the mixing surface made out of? Is a coated paper sticker, plastic? Thanks.
Thank you Leslie 🥰🥰🥰😁 Truly a pleasure to see these 3 beautiful palettes and how you put care and give your feedbacks and feelings about all those awsome colors while you fill them 😊😊🥰 Bises About watercolor if you had time take a look at Kremer Pigmente it's a german brand I'm pretty sure you could be interested 😉👍 Bises
Can you tell me which travel brushes are the #4 and #6 round (the link takes one to the page with all the travel brushes. I’m guessing they’re the red dot ones. Also did the pouch come with it as I don’t see that listed. Thanks! Great video by the way!!!
🤔☝️the products look awesome! I especially love the put it all in your pocket tiny set.question is? how does it feel? are the edges good?or are they sharp? 🤔☝️💡 thinking wouldn't it be cool to make like a lil makeup type round set? ☕👍😎🙂
Great questions! The edges do not feel sharp to me. They’re all super lightweight, even when filled. It’s a totally different experience to using my other metal palettes.
When I make my color chart I cover it with clear packing tape and then tape it to the top of the lid of my toolkits. Then I don’t have a loose sheet to lose or put somewhere..
Can you update on how the pans in the little gouache palette are holding up? Have any of the colors cracked and fallen out? I know the glycerin is supposed to help but it would be nice to know if it really does! Also, how does glycerin affect the re-wetability of the paint? Does it still act like gouache or does it make it "thinner" like watercolor? Sorry for all the question but I am a gouache newb! Thanks so much!
So far all is holding up, but it’s only been a few days. A few colours are a bit cracked, but the glycerin has kept them so they aren’t in danger of falling out. From the mixing I’ve done so far I don’t think it’s changed the paint. So far so good! 😊
How do you dispose of colbalt + cadmium etc paint water? I want to find alternatives but I'm just really learning about pigments and have got some paints that I'm concerned about disposing of!
I love art tool kit so much! I have ordered a few things from them as well! Love the video as always❤ I have a question, how do you take care of paint tubes? Mine don't open at all and when I try to open they break and all the paint comes out 😑
So far so good! There is cracking but it’s not flaking (if that makes sense). The gelatin has kept it “wet” enough to be in one piece. I’ll give an update on that after I’ve used it for awhile. 😊
I m relatively new to watercolor, new in that I’ve not not been able compare multiple brands of the same color EXCEPT Prussian Blue leard in comes in PD (red) And PB (green) . Perhaps your s is one or the other and not the same as the artist to which you compare your mixes. I’m thinking the are similar red/ green versions of Phthalo blue, maybe…..? These palettes look great. Mary
I cut some cotton watercolour paper paper to fit into the pans first (which makes them a bit smaller than the actual pans). Then I just sketched the pans in and tried to make sure they were spaced evenly and looked like the palettes. After that I used a fineliner to ink them, adding a drop shadow on the bottom and right of each pan. Hope that helps! 😊
Love PO48 😍😍. Mixes? Hmm… I’m rather precious about using it, especially since it became discontinued. I see it more as a vibrant PR101 or PR102 than a mixing colour.
That’s exactly how I’ve always felt about it too! It’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one. I suspect this will be one I’ll use a bit but then not purchase again. 😊
@@LeslieStroz PO48 is a pigment that I love and see so much potential. Unfortunately, it is not available where I live and customs are too much of a hassle to get it from abroad. I managed to get paints past customs only once. That is why I am very careful about using it.

No. I can’t tell if it’s a sticker or something else, but it’s not ceramic. It works well though. I’ve been using them this week and any staining I get (I use staining colours!) has been pretty easy to remove with a vinyl eraser.

@@LeslieStrozAre you not a fan of Quin. Rose? Personally I adore both M. Graham's and QoR's red PV19s.
Their stuff looks great
As for other gouache brands I recommend Holbein
Rosemary and Co are so great, and the palettes are the chef’s kiss!! Thanks for the Holbein recommendation. I’ll definitely check them out. 😊
Big ArtToolkit and Rosemary fan, I am glad you also use them. Could you list your favourite Rosemary Travel Brushes? Many thanks!
Watercolor lasts forever. I have tubes from the 70s that I got from my granny. She wasn't using them as she prefers acrylics.
I’ve had some dry out over the years, but I suspect it’s when caps weren’t put on properly. They do last so long.
Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna truly are best friends. They make such quaint, but strong mixes.
Totally agree with you about Rosemary and co, love, love, love them!
No way, those palettes look spectacular 😭😭😭😭😭
Thanks for your video; you make the art supplies look irresistible. Re gouache -- there's an American company called M. Graham that makes artist quality gouache. This means the pigments are lightfast and there is no chalk or white added. They are very different from designer gouache! I thought you might be curious about them.
Your voice is so soothing 😊
Thank you! 😊
this was super fun!
That tool you are swatching with is the “eradicator” brush. That’s Rosemary and Co.’s scrubber brush. So it will dig in deeper to pigment.
What kind of paints can you put in them? Watercolors? Oil based? I love the colors you chose.
Nickel aso Yellow and quin burnt orange make quin gold! And if you ad a little Ultramarine you have a very Nice mosgreen ( undersea green from DSmith)
hi Leslie , i am a total newbie.
Love the little palettes so perfect for travel.
Yes they are! 😊
(I'd test the Amethyst though, because I've heard people say it doesn't hold up so well.
I love love love my R&Co small dagger brush.
it’s annoying how cute that art toolkit looks but i am also always travelling with a backpack that almost has the size of me so im gently reminding myself i dont need it
I really enjoyed this video❤ Thank you so much
My pleasure! 😊
where do you get the handheld easel?
Looks like you’re playing Tetris!
It felt like it! 😅
What was the magnetic travel set up you used clipped to the book?
Would love to know that too
The art toolkit palettes are my favorite!
I’ve been testing the Daniel smith and m graham gouache in mine, loving them so far.
How is the M Graham doing for you? I love it but worried it might not do as well in the more shallow pans.
@@LeslieStrozI had poured a couple of pans without adding anything and they cracked a little but didn’t fall out vs my Holbein gouache which cracked and fell out before adding glycerin. I tried adding watercolor blending medium to the m graham and it cracked less. They rewet beautifully.
Hello ❤from Beautiful British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
I have Jadeite in DS watercolour...i paint a lot of trees...Cascade green. Well, I like moonglow for little abstracts.
When you use the mixing area and mixing pans do the watercolors bead at all? What is the mixing surface made out of? Is a coated paper sticker, plastic? Thanks.
Thank you Leslie 🥰🥰🥰😁
Truly a pleasure to see these 3 beautiful palettes and how you put care and give your feedbacks and feelings about all those awsome colors while you fill them 😊😊🥰

About watercolor if you had time take a look at Kremer Pigmente it's a german brand I'm pretty sure you could be interested 😉👍 Bises
Thanks so much! Setting up these videos brought me so much joy. I will check out the Kremer Pigmente watercolours! 😊
@@LeslieStroz you brought joy to me too 😁😉👍
Can you tell me which travel brushes are the #4 and #6 round (the link takes one to the page with all the travel brushes. I’m guessing they’re the red dot ones. Also did the pouch come with it as I don’t see that listed. Thanks! Great video by the way!!!
What a lovely video. I’m intrigued by your hand held easel… I’ve never seen anything like it. Would you be able to share the details on it?
Sure! It’s a super lightweight board made & sold on Etsy by a company called Just Go Sketching. 😊
I use a little bit more glycerin and it makes my paints super easy to rewet. I love it.
Love this Leslie thank you for sharing 💜
You’re welcome! 😊
I've not heard of this brand before, but those palettes look so pretty! I think sandi hester has one and she filled it with gouache instead 🥰
I filled the Demi palette with gouache here. I’m excited to be able to easily carry gouache with me. 😊
When I make my color chart I cover it with clear packing tape and then tape it to the top of the lid of my toolkits. Then I don’t have a loose sheet to lose or put somewhere..
Clever!!
They are CUTE!
What would you put into gouache beside the glycerin for mold?
Where did you get the handheld easel, I cant find it anywhere on the internet?
I love art tool kit so much! I have ordered a few things from them as well!
Love the video as always❤
I have a question, how do you take care of paint tubes? Mine don't open at all and when I try to open they break and all the paint comes out 😑
Also if we Spitz water on metal palettes aren't they gonna rust? How do you take care of them?
Hi Leslie! What size are the pointed round brushes are you using in this video? They look so lovely, I’m going to place my first order.
I used the R26, which is a size 4 , and I also have the R27 here, which is a size 6. I love them both!!
I just went online and bought one for my gouache. How is your dry palette going?
So far so good! There is cracking but it’s not flaking (if that makes sense). The gelatin has kept it “wet” enough to be in one piece. I’ll give an update on that after I’ve used it for awhile. 😊
I m relatively new to watercolor, new in that I’ve not not been able compare multiple brands of the same color
EXCEPT Prussian Blue leard in comes in PD (red)
And PB (green) . Perhaps your s is one or the other and not the same as the artist to which you compare your mixes. I’m thinking the are similar red/ green versions of Phthalo blue, maybe…..?
These palettes look great. Mary
Do you have a link to the easel?
How did you make your swatch cards? Pans arranged on the printer? Pray tell!
@@awatercolouristHi! ☺️👋 Which brands do you have access to in your country? 🙂
@@hannahthufvesson Hannaaaaaah 😃 😃. ALWAYS good to see you! Only one store sells some van Gogh open stock and another sells some Daler Rowney Aquafine and a third recently stocked Schmincke. The Schmincke is over the top expensive. Horadam is twice the price of Jackson’s!! I didn’t like the Aquafine at all, so I am using them for practice. Their Indian Yellow is PY153, though, that was rather lucky. Van Gogh is nice, but not as nice as professional and handmade paints. van Gogh paints are less pigmented. I’d like to try Rembrandt one day, though.
@@awatercolourist It's always so good to see you too!! ☺️😄
That is SUCH a bummer! And Schminke sounds horrifically expensive! I was hoping you'd say that you had access to Rembrandt, they have a nice PO48! Stroke of luck with the PY153 though! I inherited a student grade paint set, and one of those colours is a PY153, am looking forward to trying that one out. And I have the Daler Rowney Gamboge Hue mix, from before they changed the formula. That one glows! Happy for you that you found one!
Thankyou, I learned a lot.
Hold onto that Quin. Burnt Orange, they can't make it anymore
I've had my eye on the Traveler's Company US collab with Art Toolkit for a while now yet I already a have two other mini palettes so do I really need another?!!
I think you’re asking the wrong person! 😅
@@LeslieStroz have you ever tied out Viviva ColourSheets ? They are made in India and very concentrated watercolours. I always carry them in my journal as they are so pigmented. P.S. I love Rosemary brushes, I am from the UK yet live in France atm and they are my preferred travel brushes by far.
Aso Yellow is a Nice bright Yellow and light fast (D Smith)
I love Schminke and Holbein Gouache if you would like to try other brands.
That’s really hitting the dopamine centers haha!
For me too. 😊
@lesliestroz are the mixing pans ceramic coated?
No. I can’t tell if it’s a sticker or something else, but it’s not ceramic. It works well though. I’ve been using them this week and any staining I get (I use staining colours!) has been pretty easy to remove with a vinyl eraser.
I love mine
Nice; thanks for sharing ❤
You’re welcome! 😊
Did you purchase all these items or were any given to you?
Both. As I said a few times in the video, I was generously sent the items in this video (the palettes and 3 travel brushes), but I’ve also purchased both from both companies. I’ve been using Rosemary & Co brushes for a decade. 😊
Ok I noticed you did say you got sent the brushes, but I was unsure as the video isn't listed as 'paid promotion'
@@susanrich6It’s not a paid promotion. Paid promotions are paid, which I wasn’t.
