How to use CTB & CTO gels? A Sunset Portraiture Example.

- First of all, I apologise for using the portrait orientation for recording myself talking. In my subsequent videos and the photoshoot part of this video, it’s all in landscape orientation (I have learned my lesson!). I will appreciate if you can look at the bright side: the information I share is what I believe to be useful to most people, and I have written an outline for you to jump the section that you want to view. 2) In this video I would be shooting sunset portraiture with two different white balances, 9500K and 3800K.
2a) Scenario 1: 9500K
Setting higher Kelvin Temperature in the camera will add more warm to the image, and I like to do so during the sunset. A CTB (Color Temperature Blue) gel is popped in front of the flash to correct Brianna's skin tone. You'll also see what would happen if no gel was added.
2b) Scenario 2: 3800K
Setting lower Kelvin Temperature in the camera will get you a bluer image, and thus the sky will have a cooler tone during sunset. In order to color-correct her skin tone, I've added a CTO gel. You'll also see a photo without the CTO gel.

Thank you for this video. I saw another video where I’d have to bring the photo into Lightroom to see the results, but with your technique of changing the white balance on location I can see the results immediately.

Hi from California! I think so, the higher/ lower end of the kelvin I go, the fuller color correction (ctb and cto) is needed. Check out the course to learn more.
