Canon R50 + 50mm F1.8 | Behind the scenes | Cute Old Town Portraits

Have you been to Port Costa, California? This old town is really cute and I just had a natural light portrait photoshoot with Sienna. Enjoy! Points to note: 1) The equivalent focal length of the 50mm F1.8 is 80mm (50mm x 1.6 = 80mm). 2) Personally, I think using the 85mm is a good way to practice your portrait composition as you need to decide what to include and what not to conclude in the fra...

Have to admit, I was getting a little annoyed until I found your video. Thank you.
I’m glad you found it helpful! 🙏
where do you edit photos?
Hello! Do you think a Godox mini tt350c and a ad e1 adapter work with the eos r50?
I think so.
Do you think the Canon R50 with the 18-45mm f4.5 kit and the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens is a good choice for a 11 year old that knows a bit about photography?
Definitely!
Great tips Christina! Looking forward to part 2.
Thank you! Working on it, haha~
I understand the mounts and there differences now, thank you 🙏 but now I think there pointless, I changed to Sony because they only have two mounts (E and A) and the E works on all there mirrorless body’s APSC or Full Frame and they have great third party lenses NO adapters needed, I loved Canon but Sony lets you work with out braking the bank
Canon RF and RFS mounts work on all mirrorless APSC and full frame cameras.
Will the godox ad400 pro work with the camera and adapter
thats apply to de X3c too??
Yes it applies
What a freakin mess from Canon. This is why Sony E mount is way better! Great video!
Glad you found it helpful. Canon has a lot of mount system... just another thing to think about😁
hello i have an Elinchrom EL-Skyport Universal Speed Trigger it worked on my olf fuji but i recently have a r5MK2 and the transmiter doesnt trigger do you think it is a similar problem and needs this adapter ? cheers
Thanks for the question! My R5 1 doesn’t require the adaptor but I think the newer versions of EOS R cameras will need the adaptor (Canon please up your production).
What lenses are you using?
What do you think?
Christine, forgive me for that question. I was caught up in the photos I wasn't thinking
I got the Adapter, but my cheap Sunpak DF4000U wont work on the R50. Any setting changes suggestions? Btw, love all the content you're sharing with the world. Thank you!
Thank you! I think you really have to order the AD E1, just hoping Canon can see this and increase its production🙏
@@photosproutsI do have the AD E1, but my Sunpak DF4000U still won't work in my R50. Is there a setting I should be at? Or you think it might be a defective AD E1? Thanks!
Wow! How nice! I was trying my Godox V1 with my R50 and nothing happened. Thanks, now I know why. FLASH!
Glad you figured it out! Happy shooting!
weird......... i don't see this on my R5 Mark ii...... is there a video for that ? i tried looking and it doesn't show :(
my rf50mm cant perform well at lowlight
Although I mostly shoot songbirds, your review of AF options was generally helpful, thanks. I especially appreciated your clear explanations and pauses on the menu displays so that we could read them. I am wondering, though, which option you prefer for "Initial Servo AF Point" selector. I have been using Case 2, since it allows me to specify the starting location for the Eye+Tracking method by aiming the "box" for Spot, 1-point, Expand, or Around. I was also unclear on what happens if I assign another back button - e.g. the AF Point ("rectangle") Button - to toggle AF Methods. I am hoping it will over-ride the Expanded 1-point AF method set in AF Menu Tab 1, but I wasn't sure which has priority. I know I'm late to this conversation, but perhaps someone with more experience on the R5 than me will weigh in. Thanks again.
I buy new canon r10 with rf 50mm f1.8 lens few days ago But when i tried to take picture on 1.8 , iso - 100 , shutter speed - 4000 in sunlight there is purple colour (chromic abrasion) edges on the image this is happening in night photography also with flash At night purple colour is showing where any white colour find in image I dont know hor to solve this problem if anyone knows hor solve this problem please help me
Does this problem happens with R9?
I’m not sure; R9 is not released yet when I see this comment.
Wow great quality. I wonder how it did with the off camera flashes?
I think given the right scenario to use OCF, the images will be stunning. I tend to actively look for locations and ambient light that takes OCF to the next level, hope to share another video soon. Meanwhile you can also check out my other video on using R50 in OCF portrait for a fashion photoshoot in San Francisco: Budget Option for Ultra Wide OCF Portraits/ Canon RF-S 10-18mm F4.5-6.3 and R50 ua-cam.com/video/MnbiT7KJ9u4/v-deo.html
@@photosprouts I watched your r50 hotshoe adapter video a few days ago. Thanks for the reply anyway. So helpful.
Nice lessons
Thanks! I hope it's helpful!
Not usable for landscape photography.
Bbf is not necessary for landscape photography as it is not a moving subject that requires you to track focus.
Interesting, I found so many guides on UA-cam, but you have more knowledge than the rest, thanks
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
I have the same equipment why i have to be far away to take full body picture
This is because the 50mm lens is a prime lens which means it has a fixed focal length and cannot be zoomed in or out. Also, it has a tight field of view (50mm x1.6 = 80mm) on a crop sensor camera; 80mm is the “true” focal length and gives you a tighter view. Therefore you need to step back from the subject in order to get more context in the frame, including the legs (full body). Just bear in mind that the longer the focal length, the tighter the field of view, the more you need to step back to capture more stuff.
What a pity. I did it on my R6II and it works as expected. I saved everything to C1. I thought it would be an ideal configuration for the RAW burst. The problem is the undefined trigger. You never know if you are in pre-save mode or shutter mode. So it would be ideal to decouple the AF and just fill the memory until the shutter is released. But unfortunately it doesn't work. The shutter release must still be pressed halfway.
Nicely done
Thanks!
Thanks for showing us that we can get good results with an entry level camera
You are welcome! That’s my pleasure ❤️
I llove the look of this img. I have the r50 with kit lens But i wanna buy new lens and i’m A little hesitant and don't know what to buy the RF50mm or sigma 30 mm f1.4
Ya, it’s a dilemma! I’m going to post another video about shooting on true 50mm (which is similar to 30mm on a r50, 30x1.6 =48mm), hopefully you can decide after seeing the images🙏
Thank you Christina - I’m new to OCF and was so glad I found your video - talk about a frustrating thing to realize my camera needed an adapter. 😅 but at least I was able to find your channel - thank you again!! ❤❤
You are welcome! Glad that my experience was helpful ❤️

It's good to know that the RF-S camera can also be connected to R's full-frame lens. Christina, 50mm is the beginning of portraiture. I just bought the new 16mm and now I have to change to 50mm😂. Don't learn from me.
16mm is also good! I think a little bit good distortion or showcasing the context on this lens might be super fun!!❤️
@@photosprouts Thanks Christina, if I have more money to buy the "red circle" it would be the best! All lenses will be guaranteed as long as they are red circle.
I can’t agree more! They are very try sharp and durable! Happy Black Friday shopping!
@@photosprouts Thank you again, but if people need more light and detail to show up. They can choose "red circle" or reflector for outdoor photography.
I'm going into photography, and it's so overwhelming. Im torn between getting a used canon 5d mark iv and a new canon R50 with a 50m 1.8 lens. I've seen a few videos saying the R50 is a crop sensor and won't do very well for kids and family portraits. Please, what do you recommend?
Thank you! Here are my thoughts: First up, r50 and 5d iv are different types and grades. R50 is a mirrorless, entry level and crop sensor camera. 5D iv is a DLSR, full frame and pro level but back in the old days. It is not as powerful as an entry level mirrorless camera nowadays. Second, r50 can be used as your leisure camera. If you plan to go professional and work with paid clients, you should get a higher end mirrorless full frame camera, such as the R5 (mark i is already extremely impressive, and now at low rate; no need to go mark ii until you earn a lot of money from the sessions), R6. Other intermediate level mirrorless cameras, even though they are cropped-sensor ones, will also work, such as R7. Never buy a DSLR (5D iv) nowadays as they don’t have eye af, and you need to move the focus point manually to the eye, which can be tedious and slow. Hope it helps! Last but not least, if you are living in the Bay Area, do sign up for our in-person Beginners and Intermediate Workshops to make sense of the concepts in one morning. If you are remote, just register for our online class. Thank you!
@photosprouts thank you so much for taking the time to respond ❤️❤️❤️... canon R5 is way above my budget for now ... trying to get a gear set all under a thousand pounds 🫣
Which software do you use for editing mam????
Just Lightroom Classic and Photoshop
great video, i have a Canon r 100 + the rf 50mm lens , not new to photography but i wanted a take anywhere camera , and the good thing is i can use my older EF lenses with an adapter ,look forward to your next video........
Thank you! We are so alike! I also love the fact that the camera is very affordable, and Canon is launching more RFS lenses🎉
Canon and their beautiful colours, once go canon u dont feel like wanna look at other cameras hahaha
I think so! I started out as a Nikoner but the skin tone looks too saturated to me… haha~
Sandbag please 😅!
Yes sir!
Stunning! I just got some off camera flash and I’m excited to use it
Hope you enjoy it!
hi, when i'm in manual mode but turn of the flash, setting f/640 f11 iso 200 same as you but the screen turns dark? Please help me figure out. Thanks so much.
Your surrounding is dark or even when it’s normal daylight, shutter speed 1/640s is too fast to light up the scene, plus the aperture is too narrow to let in the light. Widen up the aperture, say f1.8. Also, it is important to note that my settings may not be applicable to your situation, given that the lighting and the time of the day is different. You should build a solid foundation in photography by understanding what iso aperture and shutter speed are and how they work together.
ill do all you said but why its not working to me 😢😢
The flash still doesn’t go off?
What flash are you using? If you are using the “more complicated” Godox flashes such as the TT685, make sure it is in the mode that you desire: On-camera mode, slave mode when you use a trigger. It won’t go off as an off camera flash if it’s in the on-camera flash mode.
I switched to bbf a year or two ago and can’t imagine switching back.
I cannot live without it either 😁
I am from India ❤
Hahaha
Ha Ha Ha
nice,thank you so much
You are most welcome
Hahahaha
Bro, you should speak slower 😂. The girl was explaining it so nicely at a very good pace!!!
I was about to buy the R50 and just found out about the adapter. The ad-e1 is a unicorn. None in stock anywhere. There are some on ebay but most are about 3x MSRP. This may have changed my mind to by a Sony.
Yes I agree! Why would Canon do that? It doesn’t make any sense…
I found an ad-e1 on eBay
Thanks!
Welcome!
