WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is a result of doing all this myself I’m afraid. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday morning is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips!
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.

Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.

I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for UA-cam Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

But it’s not “just UA-cam”. It’s Alicja. Frankly my girlfriend was furious by the end of this video. “If you ever do something like that to me I’ll murder you in your sleep.” She told me.
And I don’t blame her.
Even if she requested something “really rough”, it’s your job as her BF to pamper her. Yes maybe you can tolerate that kind of nonsense. And maybe she can tolerate that kind of nonsense. But that doesn’t mean she SHOULD tolerate that kind of nonsense, even when she asks for it.
This was an opportunity for you to come off as charming in absentia. Set her up on a luxurious - or at least pampered and enjoyable - trip, and she’d be smitten and so would your audience.
This was a misstep, Steven.
If you thought this trip was tough, see Noel Phillip's recent tortuous Greyhound journey NYC - LA of several disjointed parts. Greyhound seems to be a dysfunctional company these days in some places. Noel Philips is chiefly an aviation blogger from England who now lives in Texas and nowadays has a more diverse range of blogging themes. He is very down to earth and prides himself on his geekery. Like you and Alicja he sometimes does challenges. Many of his are amusing. It would be great for you to meet sometime on the road / airport. If you do plan to meet one day crossing travel paths, try to bring him a surprise box of Monster Munch - his reaction and appreciation would be priceless and make a good video moment for both.
I think that for the payback challenge Alicja should take the sleeper to Penzance with the cabin and bed and Steve should do the coach so that they can compare their experiences of overnight travel in the UK
I'd say both should go to Hel (Pomorskie, Poland). Alicia by plane, Steve by one of those worker minivans. First at the lighthouse wins.
Steve can go on a pay back mission to a Muslim country where there is no beer or alcohol. 😂
She has definitely earned being taken somewhere lovely, or at least treated to a spa day to get a good massage to relieve the aches from that adventure.
I honestly thought that Alicja would arrive in London and find a suite at Claridge's waiting for her after that coach trip - then I saw what happened next. Ouch.

I have to say that how Alicia was treated in Dundee was shocking. She should have been shown where the taxi was and not just left to fend for herself.

to be fair the staff member did say if she waited outside they would come and and and make sure she was ok, maybe there just a breakdown of information

Hel is a small seaside town in Poland on a spit of land to the north of Gdansk - it has a train station and a ferry to Gdansk.

A very tough one for Steve although would need to be in summer. Go to Switzerland and take the steam heritage cog railway up to Brienz-Rothorn. He has to sit on the left hand side of the carriage on the way up. This way he will get the best views.

This is brutal.
Extremely long bus journey with the destination being London. I can imagine being quite an irritating place if you haven't had good sleep with how busy it is. (The British Museum just doesn't look enjoyable at all)
And then the infamous Caledonian Sleeper carriage to return. So freezing cold and noisy.
Think I'd rather do a few days extra at work than carry this out!

Well done Alicja, that was certainly a challenge by Steve for you. Nice that he booked the twin seats down on the bus as that most probably made it a nicer journey. As for the train back, it was £55 for a reason....... I wouldn't fancy that as its very unlikely that you'll get much sleep and looks like that was the case. Hope he pampered you that day and helped you recover. Another great video.

Yep. Don't like buses, but if I can't get a bed, I'd prefer them over this train, I'm afraid, except maybe on a Glasgow-London, which is relatively short, and when I'm sure to have a room available early. The days of roughing it are long gone, I like my little comforts.

That was a proper "Steve Marsh type challenge"., except you had Alicja do it ....lol....No hotel in London and no cabin on the train back.....lol......and she did very well. She looked shattered after two nights without a warm bed. Hope she's recovered.

Massive props to Alicja for totally rocking difficult journeys I know well. I remember how exhausting Megabus can be, and I did the seated sleeper many times between London and Dundee when my now-husband and I had unis 400 miles apart! The seats are WAAAY more uncomfortable now, ugh 🥺
absolutely, but I think it's still best to do it in this order, at least now, she can just go home and nap. I'm only taking night trains in a seat if I'm not in them for the entirety of the journey, or if I'm going home and can crash at arrival.

My heavens, this woman is practically a saint for taking on this challenge and taking on every bit with polite calmness. If this was my girlfriend, once arriving in London, she would take my credit card, check in the Ritz for a nap and a shower and enjoy high tea before heading for a shopping spree ay Harrods or Selfridges - or both - with my credit card. Then, with her return on the Caledonian, she would attempt to get a private room. How ALicja did all this, I'll never know. Good show!

I did 36 hours with a 5 year old on a bus to Spain. I could not enjoy my holiday as I was dreading the return journey. First and last holiday without my husband.
I did a similar trip in the 90s. The journey out was great. The excitement of the forthcoming holiday. The return felt 10 times longer (I cannot imagine doing this with a 5 year old). During the night the staff had a well earned nap but left Abba's greatest hits album playing on loop for about 5 hours. I hate Abba now with a passion. Lesson learned for me - save a bit extra and fly. The return coach journey is unbearable.

Excellent video. The event you were filming at Buckingham Palace was the Changing of the Guard.
The guards at Buckingham Palace are changed every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at around 11am.
Also, have you checked to see if you are eligible for Delay Repay compensation for the issues with the sleeper train? You may be able to claim some of your money back!
The sleeper trains always leaves from either platform 1 or 15 at Euston since they are the only two platforms at the station long enough to take the train.
