    Once again a trip across the lake to remove bees from Nick's home, I think he really likes me and Charlie. A great time once again and a super cool queen capture on top of it. Thanks for watching. God's peace to all.

    So happy you found Her Majesty lurking under the vac... This vid was a tad bitter sweet for me. Usually I would sit with my Father In Law and watch, he really enjoyed your videos Mr Ed. Sadly he suddenly got called home last Tuesday evening. I will miss doing Bee things and hanging out with him, he was more than just my FIL, he was my best friend as well.

    I grew up in Maine and my grandparents had a big beautiful magnolia like that one you showed at the beginning. It bloomed later than this obviously. This is one reason why the Northeast doesn't really have any summer dirths. The spring bloom overlaps with the summer bloom, which overlaps with the fall bloom. Just a long cold winter, although it has gotten noticeably more mild than it was when I was a kid 40 years ago.

    Since the owner won't secure the house, you have job security for life. You know that you will have at least one removal a year. The damage done over and over, could be prevented by blocking access. He must enjoy your company and visits.

    I want so badly to be prepared to get my own bees when they fly out of my buddies wall this year. Thing is, it doesn't make sense to spend all the money to do it, only to find, maybe, it's too much (had 2 cancer surgeries last year). I wish there was a beekeeping club, to sign out the gear. Then, if a person couldn't keep up with it, whatever beekeeper helped set up, would get the boxes, queen & honey.

    Can't help but say,
    If the homeowner is set on leaving the floor space as swarm traps, why not lean into it?
    Scrounge some shallow frames with comb. Set up a rail system, and make each joist space a partial long box? "Furnish the house" for the next swarm.
    Seems that the time to set up is gained back on the first wrangling.

    That magnolia was amazing and you make bee wrangling look so easy (and I know it isn't!). That homeowner knows who to call for sure. I'm thinking a can of spray foam would prevent that being an attractive place for the bees, but hey, it's a good source of bees for the Abbey!

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  3 місяці тому +1

      Bees laugh at spray foam, they chew right through it. The only way to seal this house up would be using steel wool or fiberglass packing placed in the cracks, because they are so large, and siliconing over it. They were roaches...and a lot of them. For some reason, bees and roaches cohabitate all the time, and as gross as it is, it's just a part of how bees operate. The good news is that the roaches do no harm to the bees, comb, or honey which is one reason the bee allow their presence. Thanks for watching. God's peace Kimberly.

      I truly understand the dislike for roaches, I hate them myself...they are just so nasty. However, just like mosquitos, Louisiana is a paradise for them and they are everywhere. • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  2 місяці тому +2

      Drones are the male honey bee, and their only role in a hive is to mate with a queen bee. The reason there are so many of them is drones flood the area they are in in hopes of mating with queens in the area. Once mating season is over, and if the drone did not mate and die, it returns to a hive until fall when it is pushed out of the hive to starve. Thanks for watching and asking. God's peace Janet.

      I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 14 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace.

      Charlies suit is always cleaner than mine, his job is to hold a camera, mine is to do all the dirty work. Actually, my suit is only 2 weeks old right now as is Charlies, but he has washed his 40 times though. Thanks for watching. God's pace Evan.

    Is there something you can put in there to discourage the bees from making a new hive in there?

    • @JeffHorchoff
      @JeffHorchoff  3 місяці тому +3

      To my knowledge, there is nothing on the market that will discourage a swarm from entering a spot where a previous hive has been, at least permanently. The reason a swarm is attracted is due to the propolis that has been impregnated into the wood, that scent NEVER dissipates. If you want to become an instant millionaire, be the first to come up with the formula to mask the propolis scent permanently. The best way to discourage the return of a new swarm is closing all the entrances to the spot and filling completely the void in the space with insulation. Safe travels brother. God's peace Shawn.

      Actually, the reason the bees keep coming back is because so many other colonies of bees have been there previously. And when the next colony moves in, I will go get it.I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 14 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come.
