- Saving some money on materials, by mixing up my own sodium silicate (i.e. “water glass”) from drain cleaner and cat litter (yes, seriously). Full disclosre: almost no fire in this video :(

I recommend one of those magnetic stirrer.
But you didn't use it to make a sand core. 🙁 How do we know if it really works? There are different sodium silicate formulations and some are said to not work as well as those sold for foundry use. Have you used your solution to make cores, and how did it turn out? (Rudy in Winnipeg)
Yo this is art!
Nice :O
Great video. What do you use for clean up of pots and jug?
Slay
Face shield and eyepro. You absolutely do not want the sodium hydroxide powder or solution in your eyes. That said I'm going to give this a shot
That lovely blue color comes from cobalt chloride which is a toxic chemical. Take care man!
I’ve since found another brand that has WAY less of the blue bits, enough to just pick out :)
Seems like this is a dangerous method. Any tips on how to eliminate danger?
Just use silicagels without humidity indicators. They are colorless.
Can silica gel (used for absorbing moisture in packaging), be used in place of cat litter
I believe that’s the exact same stuff. Can anyone else confirm?
