Mr Ed, I think that the original colony may have absconded and a swarm moved in after the tree was taken down and that’s why there’s no stores. I operated heavy equipment in my younger years and had to take several bee trees down for roads or buildings. Once the tree is on the ground within a day or two the bees would abscond and then I would take a chainsaw to it and harvest the honey. I didn’t know back then that I should have been saving the bees!
He was in the back ground directing, he did not want any of the credit. Oh yea, he saw the queen as soon as the log was split hiding behind the 4th section of comb, and he coached me on that too. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

In case Mr. Ed misses this comment, I'll try to fill in with what another viewer said. It may have been an absconded hive that a swarm took over. I always like reading other people's comments and hitting like with ones I agree with on a friendly site like this. You would be surprised by what you can learn.

Africanized bees have been spreading throughout the U.S. A beekeeper was killed in NH and a worker in Ohio almost died when he was stung several thousand times. Be careful!
The bees that are left behind will eventually find another hive to call home, all they have to do is bring in some honey and they will be welcomed. As long as not to many robber bees are vacuumed, they will join the new hive. Bees are VERY social. God's peace Melanie. Mr. Ed

We got our Everything Bee Vac in the spring. Worked great.... But, we had an issue with the charging system. We contacted the company, sent what they told us back. Within a week and a half, we had it back. They honored the 1yr warranty without issue or fuss and the only cost we had was shipping to Texas from Alabama. If you're looking for a great bee vac y'all go check them out.
Thanks for the comment on their customer service! I figured they were a great company from seeing comments from Randy at 628 Dirt Rooster about improvements he had mentioned to them that could be done and that's what they have on them now it seems.
@@tommychew6544 you're welcome. That's who we talked with about getting a bee vac, was Randy @628 Dirt Rooster. He's been good to us! I wonder if the hive lasted that long because they rested the tree on cinder blocks? A log on the ground would get damp and rot, and more crawling insects would get directly in. Maybe keeping it dry and elevated prevented that?
A very good possibility, but whatever the reason for these bees to survive, I'm happy to have their genetics in our bee yards. I have seen cone that dark brown before, but I don't think those are the original bees that produced it. That cone is old and I mean years old, so I am assuming that those bees are from a swarm that found an empty hive that other bees vacated or actually had died off, and the young queen decided to make it her home. Anyone care to state I am wrong?

I have a bee hive in the tree to remove just like what you did I know nothing about the bees how long they been in there all I know the owner called me up last month of the winter which is August here that he has a tree on the ground with bees in it,but at that time for me was not convinient to go take them out but I should be ok to go next couple of weeks but I don't have battery operated bee vac. Any suggestion please.
You can simply take the entire log and bring it to your place, I have done that several times already. It is not absolutely necessary to remove the bees and put them in a box, so you do not need a bee vac. The video link below is one such video where I took the entire log with the bees in it, as well as vacuuming another hive from a tree. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 12 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Mr. Ed, you surprised on that one! I couldn't believe you started using that rather handy I must add tool, without at least having a veil on. I think even the Dirt Rooster would have at least a mosquito net on knowing that would stir them up. Did you scope the hole to know where the comb was or are you just a blessed man? It couldn't have been cut open any better!
I just got ahead of myself and forgot to suit up before using the saw. Still, it made for a bit of good drama. Thanks for watching. God's peace Tommy. Mr. Ed
the bees who have been here for millions of years know what they want are doing fine, now man has stepped in to do what is "best for them", their good life is over as they knew it.
There are many philosophies on keeping bees, and "ownership" is one of them. However, I prefer the term "steward," and regard my role as one of assisting the bees to prosper on their terms and not force my idea of how bees should behave upon them, which is why I do not treat our bees. Given that, why then did I remove the bees from their natural habitat and install them in a conventional bee hive? Had these bees not bee relocated, they would have starved and died over the winter because there were not sufficient stores of pollen or honey in the hive for them to make it. Now, they are in a bee box being fed, and their likelihood of survival is greatly increased. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Thank you Jesus! 🐝🇦🇺 I was wondering about the bees getting vacuumed. Is it a gentle suction or is gentle too slow? I have a lovely Christian friend who was very distressed watching them being sucked up. She usually watches a lady who scoops them up in her hands.
Because the bee vac is designed NOT to harm bees because of it's low suction, the bees are not harmed. Removing bees by hand is a very good way of doing it, but even that way will result in the loss of some bees. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 12 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. I would guess that they rob all of the honey and food stores and the "resident" bees would starve to death and the hive would understandably collapse. A healthy hive can defend itself against a few robber bees but not to the extent of the number that was in the cooler. And there were already hardly no food stores in that hive, it appeared, at least to my untrained and failing eyes.
If to many robbers are vacuumed, they will continue to fight in the bee vac which is why I stop vacuuming after a certain point. A few robbers vacuumed makes no difference, they will join the hive. Thanks for watching. God's peace Leon. Mr. Ed
I feed our bees honey. I always have lots of it from different removals. Still, I'd prefer not feeding bees, but when necessary, I do. God's peace Carole. Mr. Ed

Doing clean up around my hometown. (Ft Myers). Hurricane made a big mess. I have seen so many hives that drowned in the storm and surge😢😢😢😢😢😢. So many hives in water meters on the ground and it is horrible to see them all dead. I am super stoked that my bees at home survived all that wind.(they were ANGRY the day after, but now are back to normal.) I have a downed tree I have to go get bees out of when I get the time, but I am working over 80 hours a week on disaster relief.
So sorry for all the beekeepers and bees in Florida, a real disaster. Thanks for all you are doing Joey, I have all you guys in my prayers. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
Mr Ed, Do you ever worry about moving bees from one place to another and thus leaving the original place without the necessary bees to their required jobs?
I take special effort to capture all the bees that are from the hive. Still, in instances where robber bees outnumber the remaining bees, and I don't want to vacuum the robber bees as they will fight with the hive bees, I am forced to leave some behind. However, the few that remain behind will not make any difference to the ones that will be moved as we capture more than 85% or more of the original hive. Thanks for watching. God's peace Mary. Mr. Ed

I have a couple of questions. How long after starting a cutout do bees remain defensive? I have a theory that robber bees will become a like a shook swarm if taken far away from the place that they were robbing, what are your thoughts?
Generally, the bees calm down almost immediately. However, there are always a few that stay mad for a while. If only a few of the robber bees are vacuumed, they will become part of the hive. However, if to many are vacuumed , they will fight in the bee vac. That's why I stop vacuuming when there are to many robbers around. @Jeff Horchoff Bees. Why do you suppose they weren’t making honey for winter? Thank you for your amazing videos!
My guess is they had eaten most of it already. They were storing nectar, but there was not to much. Not to worry though, I am feeding them and they will make it. God's peace Marilynn.

In case Mr. Ed misses this comment, I'll try to fill in with what another viewer said. It may have been an absconded hive that a swarm took over. I always like reading other people's comments and hitting like with ones I agree with on a friendly site like this. You would be surprised by what you can learn.
very cool hive I'm glad you rescued it.
I think the difference is this was a limb and not a tree. Looks by the comb, it was on about 45 degree angle or a little steeper.
At first I thought so as well, then the home owner pointed out on the tree trunk where this limb came from and it was a vertical trunk. What happens to the hive bees that get left behind? And do the robber bees join the colony or is their inherent job to remain a robber?
The bees that are left behind will eventually find another hive to call home, all they have to do is bring in some honey and they will be welcomed. As long as not to many robber bees are vacuumed, they will join the new hive. Bees are VERY social. God's peace Melanie.

Mr. Ed
@@JeffHorchoff I have never like bees until you came along and make me respect them.
How long can the brood survive without the bees covering it? In the winter?
As long as the brood is capped, it can last several hours untended as long as it's kept in the ice chests. In winter time, the time is less, but since there is so little brood in the hive at that time, that is not an issue. I have seen cone that dark brown before, but I don't think those are the original bees that produced it.
Mr. Ed, you surprised on that one! I couldn't believe you started using that rather handy I must add tool, without at least having a veil on. Mr. Ed
how much stores do they need in your mild climate?
I like to have a hive weighing about 60 pounds going into the winter. Thanks for watching. God's peace.
Mr. Ed
the bees who have been here for millions of years know what they want are doing fine, now man has stepped in to do what is "best for them", their good life is over as they knew it.
I was wondering about the bees getting vacuumed.
Jeff and Julio down at the bee yard!
What happens if you have too many robber bees
I would guess that they rob all of the honey and food stores and the "resident" bees would starve to death and the hive would understandably collapse. A healthy hive can defend itself against a few robber bees but not to the extent of the number that was in the cooler. And there were already hardly no food stores in that hive, it appeared, at least to my untrained and failing eyes.
@@jimjordan5630 where are they going to rob to if you take them miles away. They will be homeless won't they?
If to many robbers are vacuumed, they will continue to fight in the bee vac which is why I stop vacuuming after a certain point. A few robbers vacuumed makes no difference, they will join the hive. Thanks for watching. God's peace Leon.
