      What's frustrating is the ship itself is OK, It's design is a recycled design the Shangri-la class, If they kept it as that, said it was upgraded and recommissioned due to the need to rapidly ships following the Utopia Planitia destruction, then I have no issue with it being the hero ship for that season. If they were insistent on the whole "it's a rebuilt Titan" Then make it such, take the Titan and upgrade it but keep its key design features. In the end they failed to do either.
      And then at the end to rename it the Enterprise made no sense at all. In Trek Enterprise has always meant something more. From the NX being the first warp 5 ship to each subsequent Enterprise being a member of the most advanced design of their age. Even the A, though itself a renamed ship was still a Constitution II/refit. Which till the completion of the Excelsior project was still Star fleet premier vessel! (Personally I wouldn't of minded if the A was revealed at the end of ST4 as being the newly commissioned second ship of the Excelsior class, But understand that for the sake of the movies maintaining the visual continuity makes sense.)
      The Enterprise G sticks out like a sore thumb in this line up going from the premier ship of the fleet to a rebuilt ship based not on it's own design but on an even older design.
      And all this after we had a massive fleet of the copy and past class, in season 1 of Picard and the fleet of frankly much better design like the New Stargazer we got in season 2.

Picard S1 and 2 were bad on a fundamental story telling level but 3 was also bad in that regard and having the TNG crew and the D in it did not suddenly make it good. Picard made Star Trek as a whole worse.
    And why bother with the F? Why not leave it in the 2420s or whenever STO put it? If you want to do the Galaxy class call back have the Sovereign class get disabled, but dont have a fan favourite non-TV ship turn up as a jobber and then replace it with a fugly half saucer thing.

    Matalas may have made the best series in Secret hideouts lineup, but he was hamstrung by Secret Hideouts divorce from Trek lineages so the producers could hire cheaper staff.

    I suspect that Starfleet didn't make a new ship to be the Enterprise-G for the same reason the Constitution III was made - the destruction of the Utopia Planetia shipyard. Starfleet can no longer just build an arbitrary new ship to take up the mantle of the Enterprise. They are, for the first time in almost ever, resource-constrained, at least as far as ship construction is concerned. They just didn't have a new ship of suitable quality lying around and could not construct one and get it where they wanted it to be in time to roll out the next Enterprise.

    • @assemblyrequired7342
      @assemblyrequired7342 2 дні тому +1

      That justification doesn't fly with me. I mean, the original Enterprise was built at San Francisco shipyards, while Bill Krause's Tycho Shipyards is Beta Canon.
      The Federation should have plenty of other shipyards available to build brand new ships. It also doesn't make tactical sense to be dependent on one particular shipyard in order to commission a particular type of vessel, especially after the Dominion War.

    • @3Rayfire
      @3Rayfire 2 дні тому +2

      That doesn't hold water. Just as the idea that all the ships we saw on Frontier Day is actually the whole of Starfleet. There were more ships in Operation Return on DS9. The Producers during the TNG era estimated that there were 35,000 ships in Starfleet, so the idea that Starfleet of all organizations is short handed seems ridiculous. Especially since Utopia Planitia is not only not the only fleet yards in the Federation, it's not even the only one in the Sol System. There's Marin County Shipyards, San Francisco Fleet Yards, Baikonur Cosmodrome, and the Luna Shipyards. Then there are the ones elsewhere in the Federation, like the Beta Antares Shipyards that constructed the Prometheus.

    • @assemblyrequired7342
      @assemblyrequired7342 День тому +1

      @@3Rayfire I think that I read somewhere that Beta Antares had a contract for building Defiant class starships.
      And 35,000 would have been following massive losses at the beginning of the Dominion War. There were definitely more, and following the Dominion War, there would have been at least as many.
      For Frontier Day, it could have been all of the ships in the region (about a weeks worth of travel in spherical radius from Earth), and vessels in need of leave/refit/equipment upgrades/replacements.
      But no organization is ever going to sign on to bringing an entire damned fleet into one area.

    They should have made the series 3 "Titan," an *Excelsior 2* class, and have an early encounter where the Shrike completely blows away the Burst Quantum Slipstream drive, so it's disabled for the entire season.
    Such as a barrage of Quantum torpedoes being portaled straight back into the QS drive deflector dish or some other large system that can't be repaired easily in the field.
    And some of the weapons get damaged as well, to explain why a powerful ship like a Excelsior 2 has to run.
    And simply scale up the Shrike so it's still a overmatch for the "Titan."
    Then a later spin off series features a fully repaired Excelsior 2 under Captain 7 of 9 that is more appropriate for the long range missions the plot requires.
    The Constitution 3 class is not going far beyond the Frontier, it's not a long range ship.

    My conspiracy theory is that originally P:S3 was going to have the E get a proper send-off instead of a throwaway line about worf crashing it, and the F being introduced as the new hotness instead of a random catastrophic failure.
    Instead the awesome legacy of the Titan gets thrown away,
    the F and E are brushed under the rug,
    and most importantly we can never have legacy as long as SNW is on because you can’t have two different series with knockoff Connies named enterprise running simultaneously.
    I do like the Connie III design and I’m just an Oddy fan ranting at the end of the day but boy does it bum me out how they handled it.

    I love the new ship design. Growing up loving the films even more than the original series, having an updated Constitution Class just added that extra bit of sexiness. Lots of people seem to think it's a downgrade but they state at the beginning of the series why: it's an exploratory ship. Since TNG, Federation ships have slowly but surely been getting bigger, badder and more militarised to deal with the theat of the Borg (though mostly being used against the Dominion). But any true Trekkie will know that Roddenberry HATED the idea of Starfleet becoming too militarised. That is precisely why he made a drastic change with the uniforms between Star Trek 6 and TNG. He wanted them to look like anything other than military. And consideriing Picard Season 3 was basically an homage to TNG - and considering the fact that the Borg were no longer considered a threat - it made sense that the newer ships would be made smaller but faster than the rest of the dreadnoughts that had been taking up most of the fleet for 30 years. And I kind of like the fact that the Enterprise is no longer the most powerful ship in the fleet. Is kind of a cliche at this point that the flagship always seems to carry this same name. Now it's just a mid-sized starship (compared to the Odyssey Class at least), it seems to blend in as just another ship in the fleet. Which is how it should be

    @cmedtheuniverseofcmed8775 7 днів тому +2

    I admit, I'm not a particular fan of what they did with this ship in calling it the Enterprise-G. In a sci-fi setting, it's ok to have older ship designs that are still used by a space fleet. A great example is the Miranda and Excelsior designs, which lasted well into TNG and DS9. However, it can be assumed that these were surplus ships that were still being used well past their expiration date (I mean, if they still work, then what does it matter?).
    The Titan/Enterprise G feels very much like a retro-clone ship design (yes, I know it's a Consitution III class or something). But building new ships based on the old design doesn't really make sense per se, especially in Star Trek. In other Sci-fi settings, especially where space fleets are starving to have ships pumped out, it's ok to use old parts stripped from previous warships to throw into new ones. With Star Trek, where replication technology clearly exists, the need to slap older-style phaser arrays onto it is very weird and out of place. They can try to argue that they retired a bunch of older Starfleet ships and used this class as a new platform to dump surplus old tech, but it isn't made too clear on that, nor does that really make much sense anyway.
    The only thing that I can say is I do like the look of the ship and the idea of it being an explorer cruiser. It's the only thing that works in the series, but not really worthy of being called "Enterprise." Unless a ship is brand new or mostly new, renaming an older ship can actually be a disservice to the vessel, crew, and its prior legacy.

Yeah makes perfect sense. Honestly Picard season 3 was great for the D's return but the choice to do this at the end is garbage writing. The main excuse is it's meant to represent a new era of peace so they de-militarize. WTF the Federation has never been more unstable and at threat minus maybe the Dominion war, this is the perfect time to have your flagship be a symbol of power as the Enterprise always was. If anything they should have refit the F with Rikers underslung super phaser from the Alternate Enterprise D refit. It could have been explained that all the components Geordie got to rebuild the D were from Galaxy X refits damaged in the war, including the spares to get the Saucer back in working order. So, in the end, it was simpler to use the Galaxy X specification as the default standard because all the replacement parts and the secondary hull were already operating on that standard.
      Then, in the big Borg battle, we get to see a full Galaxy X in all its glory.

You can only go so fast in sublight before you approach light speed. Having that many impulse engines may give you a boost to acceleration but that many can only start to hinder it's maneuverability. I mean watching Data "drift" the less than 50% original D, it can't be that big of a help if an older ship almost comparable in size can do it just fine with 3(which was insane to begin with). Also cutting up the saucer is dumb too because you're reducing interior volume to put in more unnecessary engines. This show played too much on folks good memories instead of doing something original and respectful to the franchise.

    While I understand a lot of the annoyance with renaming the Titan-A to Enterprise-G, I really like the design of the Neo-Connie. I feel like I might be the only person in the world who feels that way, but I really love the look of the vessel. I think she would have been a great hero ship for the "Star Trek Legacy" show that will never happen, but it feels so weird to make her the Enterprise after the last two were massive warships. I suppose they could have emphasized that they did it because the Federation has been too militarized, and they want to return to their roots of exploration, so they made a fast, nimble vessel the Flagship. Like how easy would that have been to include, they just had their war-fleet taken over by the borg and they could realize having that much firepower was a double edged sword, and that becoming a military force after the Dominion war has led them down the wrong path. I feel like that was sort of the trajectory of the whole Picard series, was people realizing they have taken the wrong path. From Picard realizing that hiding away was wrong, to Starfleet itself becoming more militarized and disrespecting it's own past. This is shown how people treated Picard in Season 1 at Starfleet. It continues in Season 2 with realizing that accepting their own past is key to saving the future. Then it showed how embracing the embodiment of the ideals of the Starfleet golden age, the Enterprise-D crew, they could save the galaxy. Maybe they could have had the remaining top brass of Starfleet openly say this, followed by building a new Enterprise following in the footsteps of the D.

Why scrap a top of the line ship with a computer cold when clearly the Titan had to undergo major computer, weapon, shield, engine and hull upgrades to make it serviceable? The G needed it's main computer fixing and that was it, it was cheaper to fix and it was a symbol of power needed when the Federation was at it's most vulnerable since the Dominion war. The idea that they learned a lot since Picard's return to action in season 1, and how rejecting the golden age heroes of the TNG era nearly led to the annihilation of the Federation and Earth. Not only do the current writers for their "flagship" shows Picard and Discovery not understand Trek and screwed up majorly in a way that made me Pine for Chris as Kirk, but the designers for the ships failed like the Acolyte show. The ships are bland, and they had to go to non-canon sources get some better designs. STO in most cases.
    The California class, as much as I love the Cerritos, is just a copy paste of the Miranda with the rear section of the NX-01, not bad for a kitbash, but come on!
    The Protostar is a Nova with some bits added on top, or rear and a pointier saucer, which reminds me of the Prometheus.
    The most unique ship of the lot would be Discovery but that thing was horrendous on the first trailer, then just became less bad, the whole ring design is... inefficient to be polite.
    The Picard ships, yeah they do not stand out, they are honestly a fail, and the only one that shows a bit of its own character is yet another Kitbash, and this video does a better job at explaining. And then they took the Titan and turned it into an Enterprise. They did that just to pi$$ on every fan of Riker and crew.
    Oh and don't get me started on the Story. First season was just infuriating, they destroyed the heart of the Federation just to set up some social commentary but in a really awful way. They had to explain it away in Prodigy , but when they do it it still left a sour taste. I h8 Nu Trek.
    The Frankenstein monster of the USS Yeager is more original than the stuff they put out. Maybe instead of modeling everything in CGI, they should go back to making the model physically and THEN turning it to CGI. This also applies to Star Wars, and I believe they did do this for some stuff, just not the horrendous bloated ISD wannabee of the last movie in the awful sequel. There is a reason for that: for the last 30 years, they've been building bigger, badder and more like a dreadnought with a more militarised starfleet (they no longer have whole families on board like on Galaxy Class ships). This was to combat the Bord threat. By Picard Season 3, the Borg are believed to be either dead or part of a new unofficial Federation member (the Co-operative, led by Queen jurati). So they begin to do what always happens with new trends - they look backwards for inspiration. But it is often the case that technology with go through trends of becoming either bigger and bolder or small and compact. Titan is small, but fast. Which is ideal because it is - as they state from the outset - an exploratory ship. The same as the Galaxy Class, but without all the families (hence no need to be quite as large). The ship isn't just smaller, it is leaner. It's like someone deciding that they'e had enough of driving round in a monster truck and instead opted to buy themselves a Ducati

    Definitely not a fan of the design. My biggest problem is that they renamed it AFTER Shaw died protecting the Titan-A, which had only just entered service. If they were going to waste the name, they should’ve just renamed it to the USS Shaw or USS Ro Laren. (Plus I’m an Odyssey lover, they did the Enterprise-F dirty)

  • @Trekrid
    @Trekrid 8 днів тому +2

    I think the Enterprise F was done dirty if you ask me. It was designed by Adam Ihle for a competition for Star Trek Online and the moment we see it in live action form it's almost immediately discarded. Even the Bridge set for it was a lazy redress of the Titan bridge. Then they want us to accept the former Titan A is now the new Enterprise. I'll never accept that, it will never be the Enterprise as far as I'm concerned.

    I like the ship. I don't think it should have been the Titan, and it sure as hell shouldn't have been renamed Enterprise, it should have stood on its own and been its own hero ship. But I like to imagine--and I know, Picard never portrayed it this way, but in my head it makes more sense--I like to imagine that the NeoConstitution was the product of post-Dominion War rebuilding. Major shipbuilding in Sol had to pause, so the Federation was faced with a shortage of ships and a simultaneous loss of production capacity. So they needed to churn out ships and rebuild the peacekeeping part of the fleet to counter the increase in freebooters and piracy that was happening (which we see give rise to the Rangers). So then the NeoConstitution needed to rely on older, proven designs that were simpler but also more battle-focused, rather than slick new tech, because more manufacturers across more worlds needed to be able to build them with whatever infrastructure they had in place.

    I've tried to accept this ship as an Enterprise. But it's just not up to flagship standard - which is what any starship christened Enterprise traditionally was.
    While it makes a good support vessel there is nothing really remarkable in it's design, size or armorment compliment.
    A huge backward step backward when compared to it's predecessors.

    I did not like the fact that the Titan, a ship with her own history and legacy gets completed scrapped and renamed the Enterprise-G?
    No thanks the Titan was already old herself, the enterprise-g should have been the next class up after the odyssey class.
    Enterprise-F being decommissioned after only a few moments on screen because of a computer virus was beyond lame in my opinion, give an enterprise flagship a better way out!

    After the Enterprise D, the absolute most lazy design - those warp nacells look like 1970's subway cars! People need to remember that most of the beloved movie ships were built on a budget and insane timeline. It was all about getting a paycheck for most. The original Enterprise layout makes no sense - yet modern Trek hangs on to the "age of sail" limitations of the OG. Enjoy!

    I cannot believe there is so much serious discussion about why the ship is designed to resemble older ships instead of looking newer. Are we just pretending the series exists for some purpose other than nostalgia-baiting longtime fans out of their money and viewership? Of course they're going to make it look like the "iconic" versions of the Enterprise, they're selling memberberries. Same reason that the Star Wars sequels have the First Order using the same TIE fighter design as the original movies.
    If you want new things, you need to watch a new franchise...

      Our video highlights the technical, lore and behind the scenes information. We also focus on criticising the renaming of the ship to Enterprise, which we don't agree with and therefore highlight this, along with other factors on the story approach - not your design.

      @@TychoYard Titan being renamed is a big sore point for many fans. It's a testement to the ship that it evoked the kind of affection that made many us upset its legacy was overwritten. Titan earned the A, and lore dictates it should have kept its name, or is only 'Enterprise' worthy of a legacy? But it's that renaming, not the design that is the issue. If you'd watched the video you'd have gotten that, though I get the title is misleading, but that's UA-cam for you. And while I totally understand the gut reaction to be protective of your design, trying to leverage your status to start a pile on to quash any preceived criticism or difference of opinion is beyond harsh, and shitty behaviour.

    Which Enterprise destroyed the small, round Borg ship emerging from the main body of the square Borg ship in one of the movies? In THAT movie, Picard ordered Mr. Worf to launch some Quantum torpedoes to destroy it. So yeah, THAT Enterprise actually did have some Quantum torpedo launchers, if that is indeed the same ship mentioned in the video.

    I agree at the end. Renaming the Titan-A to the Enterprise-G did the Titan very dirty. I would have liked to have seen a plot where the borg take over of the fleet somehow "cured" the Enterprise F's computer issues and it would have been put back into service. The whole "Computer cascade failure" issue with the F was a shit plot. I mean why not just switch the darn computer cores out with new ones? These ships are built to be modular. And in fact the A's computer core was switched out between movies 5 and 6.
    Also I HATE the look of the G.

    This ship shouldn't have been renamed. Somehow Riker's Luna-class Titan was refashioned into the Neo Constitution-class Titan-A, a ship that already had a proud enough lineage to deserve a hyphen, and it should never have been rechristened Enterprise-G. It doesn't have the gravitas to be an Enterprise (flagship of the Federation) and with the Enterprise-F due for decommissioning I'm surprised Starfleet didn't already have plans for a nameworthy Enterprise-G in the wings. It was a very poor choice for just a couple of moments of onscreen warmth.

    I hate the disrespect of this ship represents both towards the Enterprise F and the Titan. In regards to the out-of-place retro-style nostalgia bait, it bears a uncannily strong resemblance to the Okinawa class, but upscaled, which is a shame because the Okinawa class executes the lost-era aesthetic so much better (why does every modern Trek ship have to have ugly overdesigned nacelles?). The original Luna class looked much better as a 'modern' Trek design, but I guess the designers got to get their paychecks.

    It’s all been said here, but yes, they should not have made the Titan-A the Enterprise-G. It is not a worthy new member of its heritage and is certainly not worthy of being the Federation flagship. They should have just left it as the Titan-A, but I could have accepted it as the Picard, which is what I expected the rename to be. It was a terrible choice along with mothballing the Enterprise-F for no good reason for its television debut.
