- Welcome back to our adventures travelling through Europe in our self-built camper van. we continue our journey north from Dunkirk into Belgium where we find a nice quiet overnight stop next to the Mira Bridge in Homme.

From Belgium, we travel to the city of Amsterdam and stay at the Gaasper campsite right next to the Metro station which takes you directly into the heart of Amsterdam. The campsite can be found on this google link -

Rob ( @PackTheVanAndGo ) wanted to visit the bridge at Arnhem and go into the visitors centre there because of its significance in the Second World War and its part in the film "A Bridge Too Far" You can read more about its history here - en.wikipedia.o...

After our short lunch stop in Arnhem, we continue north to Giethoorn, a really pretty town built on peat bogs with loads of canals between the houses and everyone gets around by electric boat.
We stayed in a paid Aire Camperresort Bodelaeke near the main canal and you can find that here

Our last location in the Netherlands was the fort at Bourtange. Well worth a visit with its unique shaped moat and one of the oldest working windmills.
A 16th-century fort & cultural theme park offering dining, museums & live reenactments in period dress.

Most of the places we have visited just ask to see your proof of vaccination for covid and you are expected to wear a mask indoors. But other than that it has been very easy to travel from country to country and does feel like normal again. Long may that last.
We do hope you have enjoyed our videos of this trip and continue to watch the next episodes, we visit some incredible places and would love to share our amazing experiences. Please do consider subscribing, it doesn't cost anything and it's a great way of saying thanks.

Super video Greg. I am putting together my week in The Netherlands now. Looked to UA-cam for some inspiration and found this one. I did a week without the other half and looking at the footage now without her in it. Its very dull 🤦♂️🤣
Greg I really like the musical selections you add to your videos. They create a feeling of freedom that you must be experiencing by being on the road.
I’m so pleased you like it. I spend a lot of time trying to find the right music to give the right feeling and mood. So thank you for your comment. Much appreciated 😁
Really enjoyed the video, will be following, safe journeys x
Thank you Julie 😁
Looks Great awaiting next one Thanks
Glad you liked it 👍🏼😁
Request for tyre choice and snow chain lowdown + extras during next video please.
Love the vlog 👍👍
Looking forward to traveling again, thanks for the sneak peek!
We have had absolutely no problems at all travel in 6 different countries so far. It’s been fine 😎
Fantastic vlog 👌🍾
Thank you 😊
Nice video Greg,
Thanks!! I live in The Netherlands, at this moment 21-3-22 I am in Rota (near Cadiz) Spain
Safe trevel and stay healthy and thanks again for the nice video.!!
Arnhem Bridge is on my regiment's battle honours - As for the Mira Bridge in Homme - something to look up and possibly visit. Great look around there Greg. I'm not into cities so I think I'll give Amsterdam a miss, or at least a very brief look. I will have to deal with my city phobia when going to Italy - Venice, Roma and of course Florence - Fiorenza - I'm only going to Italy for the food and art. I'm reading up about Georgia, Romania, and I have a friend lives in Croatia, so a Balkans trips is on the cards. Happy trails.
Oh you will have to do that Italian cities and especially Rome are incredible so much history there.
We have visited Venice and Verona twice and Rome three times now.
Beautiful places to see. One most memorable evenings was watching the opera in the open air amphitheater in Verona. Incredible
Absolutely fantastic video loved it ,beautiful places , thank you for sharing 👌also loved the music whoever they were ,? yeah the music was beautiful and suited the video 👌, thanks again and looking forward to Germany 😊 safe travels 👋
Thank you fir your comment about the music. I have just subscribed to a new music service so hopefully the choices will be much better in future videos 🤩👍🏼
What a nice camping site: Laundry; showers; nice landscaping (nicely trimmed shrubbery!); little grocery store; close to transport to the city... wow!
Yes highly recommend it if you want to see Amsterdam. Perfect
Lovely to see all your faces ❤️ what an amazing journey you’re all having , thank you so much for sharing , wonderful to see all those wonderful places . Ouch those bites looked nasty . The end clips made me say omg they haven’t !!!!! Wow I’m even more in awe 😂 , love to you all x
We have some incredible things to show in the next few videos. Can’t wait to show you where we have been. 😳😁
Feeling smug... Davids working and will miss this epic video. Kettles on. Biscuits ready to enjoy this leg of your journey!
I've always wanted to visit Amsterdam! I feel like I've just been ❤
Wow, you have taken Davids crown too as the fastest comment, nice going Fiona xx
@@GregVirgoe haha it'll be game on for the next one when he finds out 😂
Hi Lou and Greg, what a fantastic video - love the drone footage. Glad to see you had a shave at the end and I can't wait to see you paragliding. Love to you both x
It’s a Vanlife thing, suppose to all grow beards and look like Tom hanks in castaway. 🤣 The paragliding was incredible and the mountains are so stunning. Miss you both and lots of love xxx
You were right around the corner. I work in Haarlem and live nearby. Lovely city (much better than Amsterdam ;)). Have a great trip!
They have all been very nice places to visit. Thanks for watching 😁
Hitchhiked those roads roads in 1976, a while ago but really enjoyed it. Into van life now, going to Wales shortly, then to Manchester to visit family members. No ferry booked home to Ireland so dear known where we end up before heading home, thanks for the video, Happy motoring
Wales is one place we have not explored properly ourselves and it does look very nice 👍🏼
Its easy ggghrrhiethoorn. Nice you visited the Netherlands, I'm Dutch and learned a lot this video! Very nice, hope you come by another time!
Another great video. Thanks guys and keep enjoying the travels
Thanks for watching 😁
That was great insight to your euro trip with some great advice.........stay safe.......thanks for sharing
You are most welcome 🙏🏼
Great to see you both back on the road again......looking forward to northern Italy footage x
Yesterday we got some amazing video up in the mountains. Check out Instagram for the latest pictures
@@GregVirgoe Thanks Greg. Suz is on it now 👍👍👍
Great video. Looking forward to the views of the mountains. Did the sounds in the windmill make anyone else think of Camberwick Green and Windy Miller? 😀
Yes I used to watch that as a kid 😆👍🏼😁
Tranquil travels up to now, with some amazing footage. Looking forward to some High altitude adventures next, Thanks again for all your vlogs Stay safe......
Today’s trip was incredible. Took the van up to 2200m into the snowy Dolomites. Got some amazing footage to show you.
Oh, my friends are the snow covered hills!
Loving the drone footage Greg. Enjoy your trip.
It’s been a revelation having the new drone. With a bit more practice the shots will get better as the trip goes on 👍🏼😎
Nice Greg, thanks for promoting my country. Really enjoy your vlogs. You had a nice time in Giethoorn. Looks very peaceful, you should have seen it before COVID, packed up with friendly Chinese people 😂
And you also visited Bourtange, close to where I live. Next time come around for a cup of coffee 😂
@@pierredutch we are benefiting from not many travellers at this time. Most sites are empty and not seen hardly any fellow brits in Europe. All still staying at home.
Great video with lots of valuable information for all that intend to travel to Amsterdam with there van . looking forward to your next video , stay safe
Great to see you enjoying the van 👍🚐👍🚐
Been a long time coming and so good to be back out on the road.
That's great Greg. I can't wait to see your route and journey down to Italy. I want to go to Venice in my van, so it will be interesting to see the details of your trip. All the best, Pete
Getting to northern Italy is so easy. Literally an hour from Germany through the Brenner Pass. We will cover that soon 😊
Loving the video's mate. Best on You Tube.
Thank you 🙏🏼 it’s nice to be appreciated for the time to film and edit. Cheers 🍻
Welcome to the Netherlands Greg! Enjoy a good spliff while your there. LoL!
Didn’t need to, you just walk down the street and breathe in 😆😂
Great adventure so far. Loving the vlogs. 👍💙❤️
Thank you so much for great feedback. 😁
We did the reverse journey, Amsterdam to Belgium to France late last century Greg - Your video brought back a lot of sweet memories.
Mira, movie with Willeke van Ammelrooy 😍 And the G in Giethoorn sounds quite like the start of the Welsh word Llum 😀
Well done 👍🏼 and thank you for the tips on pronouncing too 😁
Great video. Your (your wife’s?) editing is superb. I googled the pronunciation of Geithoorn and to me it sounds like ‘haytorn’ or ‘heytorn’
Great video Greg and great to see you back doing these types of videos 👌
Love Amsterdam, great city. Camp site there looked great 👍🏻
Yeah it was interesting. We had a great time there 😁
Thank you. All the best. Cheers.👍😎
Thank you 😊
Great video. Be great to see more horizon in drone footage to see more of the area 😀
Ok I’m still learning and will bear that in mind. Cheers
Nice one Greg your more informative than the other 2, no names mentioned or shop and sticker selling. Keeping it real. Take care cheers.
It’s about sharing our experiences with you all. Hope you find it useful and interesting too 😁👍🏼
Hi Greg , great to c the vid know all the places u have been , my wife is Dutch born in Amsterdam so it’s like a second home for me , thanks for the vid we r off to Holland in a few weeks can’t wait to get back to Amsterdam, cheers
I’m pleased you enjoyed it and I hope I did the places justice. Very beautiful place and glad we visited.
Great! Thanks for sharing!! Amsterdam is such a beautiful place. I think I'd have gone crazy if I saw you there xD
Do you live there or are you also travelling? 😁
Wow that was a real change in direction 😆
We’re drawn to the mountains wherever we go 🏔
Can’t wait to see where you end up next 😆😆
🚐💨❤️ 🇮🇹
You’ll love the next couple of videos. Today in the Dolomites was incredible have you seen the Instagram photos?
@@GregVirgoe not yet but I’ll check them out
I’m still learning the way of the Instagram 🙏🏼😆
Great video... thanks👍
Thanks for watching 👍🏼😎
Mira is a dutch belgium film produced in 1971 by Fons Raedemaeckers inspired on a book by Stein Streuvels 😉
Well done mate! Thank you 😊
good vid on you trip keep up the good vids on the trip stay safe lee
Thank you for watching Lee. How’s work on the Layout going? 😁
Ahhhh the memories ❤️🚐🐾🐾🐾
Take a look at Sluis, right on the Belgian Dutch border sometime when you're heading out or back. Lovely little town that's really worth an hour or two to look around.
I will look that up and thank you for the suggestion.
A super video thanks.
Thanks for watching 😊
Driving a Belgian number plate this year, as a vanlifer I have to move around in Belgium for at least 6 months + one day (in a year) and with the Mira bridge, you've found one of the very few places in Flanders which don't look / smell / sound bad. Good choice. And with that cyclist, you also already experienced the charms of the Flemish people 👎
For a free car park it was a nice quiet stopover and interesting to read the history of the bridge.
I can thoroughly recommend Mechelen as a place to visit, I stayed there lots while working in Belgium. Plenty of good places to eat and it’s very pretty place.
Only place where I ever stayed that the hotel charged by the hour and you were expected to supply your own female, but that’s another story entirely!
Less said about that the better. Mums the word 😂👍🏼
I really enjoyed this video and wished I could give it more than one like.
You totally messed up the G in Giethoorn lol. The tip to use H doesn't help either.
The soft G sounds like when you set up your tongue and mouth to gargle and then breath out. But instead of a long breath out, you keep it very short when it's in a word, not longer than what you did with the english G.
Yeah I totally cocked that up didn’t I 😂😁 thanks for the explanation.
The movie was called Mira and made in 1972 thats how the bridge got it name after the movie
Well done mate! 👍🏼😁
We love the Netherlands! - and, not to worry, we have our troubles pronouncing some of their local names... 👍😊
Thanks for the video - there are certainly places still worth discovering and visiting.
Looking at those bug bite welts - that looks scary enough to make a trip to the local hospital. Geeez...😲🚑
Drone regulations in NL seem to be a lot laxxer compared to Germany, where you actually need a license to operate a drone heavier than 2 kilos and are prohibited from flying over residential buildings, or nature reserves. There's also mandatory liability insurance and you need to label the drone with your personal credentials. As your trip within Germany has ended, these tidbits are most likely moot - you've either been lucky or jailed. 😂
Have fun on your continuing travels! 🚐☁️🍀
Great video Greg. Quick question (and sorry if you’ve already answered in other comments) what is the name of the camp site you stopped at whilst in Amsterdam. Looking forward to catching up on the rest of your travels; getting inspo for our trip next year 😊
You’ll always find all the links you need in my video descriptions 👍🏼😁
@@GregVirgoe ah found it! Sorry I didn’t realise that’s where all the info was. Thanks for taking the time to reply
@@kay-waterandwander5601 as long as you have got it that's good.
Giethoorn is pronounced as GGGiethorn, where the GGG is the sound as if you clear your throat. It is the famous Dutch 'hard G', that we use in many words, like "gezellig".
I apologise for my very poor attempt at pronouncing it. Thank you for the correction. Hope you liked the video otherwise 😊
@@GregVirgoe - Oh yes. And sorry for only coming in with a speech-correction and not mentioning your nice video. Peaceful and informative.
I found your channel last year, and witnessed you rushing to get to the UK before the borders closed. I'm glad to see you travelling again.
Nice video geezer
Thank you buddy 😊
Welcome to the netherlands
It’s a very nice country 😁
Holland is beautiful (even Amsterdam........:) )
Yes they were some lovely places to visit.
Hi what do you have in place if the unexpected happens like a breakdown / mechanical failure. Many thanks 😊
Welcome to my country mate, the campsite is just 15 minutes from my town, if you need some tips let. Me know ✌️
Thank you Den for the kind offer. The videos normally come out a few days after we have visited as it takes time to edit them. Appreciate your offer 👍🏼😁
@@GregVirgoe I realized that while watching. Hahahaha
If there was a way of getting your van overseas, would you fancy travelling round America ?
Yeah I would love to do that. I’d also like to do some of the west coast by motorbike 🏍️ too 🤩
Just went to Arnheim and Overloon last weekend, as a history geek you have to.... greetings from Hamburg
You will see we visit Hamburg in our next video 👍🏼😁
How much is the campsite...could you give us prices of various campsites ?? thank you..
Were you required to show proof of various medical procedures before entering restaurants etc?
Some restaurants have asked for vaccination proof. Mostly in France and also some museums and attractions in the Netherlands and Germany.
@@GregVirgoe Interesting to know 👍 I know there is a lot of push back in the Netherlands and France.
Hi Greg :) That housing area with canals is so nice! I noticed at minute 14.45, the house has an unusual roof, at least, I've never seen one in Canada or the USA. Do you know what it's made of? OMG you didn't go parasailing!? Did you?!
Looks like a thatched roof to me, lots of them in parts of England.
Hi Suzanne, it’s a thatched roof made of natural materials usually reeds or wheat straw I believe. I imagine it’s very expensive to have done as it requires a lot of old skill.
Yes I did go parasailing and got some great video flying with eagles 🦅
@@GregVirgoe Thanks so much Greg, I thought it might be something like that, but wasn't sure. Perhaps it is done over here, I just haven't seen it. It really must take a skilled worker to perform this antique skill. Thanks for getting back to me!
@@GregVirgoe Wow! I can't wait to see that❣️
great video thanks Greg. what video camera are you using these days? footage looks good.
I’m using a DJI OSMO ACTION with an external RODE microphone. The video stabilisation is very good. 👍🏼
@@GregVirgoe cool cheers. action cameras are a good choice for general travel vlogging I think.
Why drive though Belgium when it has so much history to explore and some wonderful places like Bruges, Brussels, Ypres and Passchendaele to name a few. Or are you planning a longer visit on your return?
The trouble is now we are restricted by the 90 day rule we have a deadline to get to southern Italy to catch a ferry out of the EU so sadly on this trip we didn’t have time to stay longer. Another time.
Enjoy your trip and I forgot about the new 90 rule.
Have you got the location of the Amsterdam campsite? and I hope you had a great Time in Arnhem, Oosterbeek (just outside Arnhem) has got a great museum called the …Hertstine Hotel … I have spent many a night drunk in the area celebrating Airborne forces ww2 heroics.
All the links are in the video description 👍🏼😁
Nice to see you enjoyed my country. You picked a few places that are very difficult to pronounce for foreigners haha. Couldn't even begin to explain how to pronounce Bourtange 😂. If you come back to the area, you stop at one of the country's most beautiful areas, the Drentse Aa. It is a protected natural landscape, very nice for walks or cycling. Enjoy the rest of your journey!
That’s great advice thank you very much. What we saw was very nice.
Nice video bombing at 18 mins Lou
If you have plans to come as far as the central/south of Italy, give us a shout. We have a small tranquil park up and would love to host you guys.
We are heading down to Bari to catch a ferry by the end of the month. Can you PM us details. Thank you 😊
@@GregVirgoe Sent you a pm over on your FB page.
👍
😎
You're right Greg, pictures or it didn't happen. :) As far as I'm concerned, you're still a respectable Englishman.
Was Mira bridge used in the film `A Bridge Too Far`?
No, but both are movie bridges.
Mira from the romance movie Mira, and that's in Belgium.
The bridge from the war movie A Bridge Too Far is in the Netherlands.
欢迎你来到荷兰
Thank you very much 😁
If you're ever in the limousin, France, give me a shout.
Thanks Steve, that’s very kind of you 👍🏼😊
Wouldn't they call it 'van Life' in the Netherlands?
Yes very clever 😊
Are you getting any probs with over vealous cops in the EU with being a Brit van and all??? Great vids too...
No, we have had absolutely no problems whatsoever on this trip and have been through 6 different countries already. :D
@@GregVirgoe That's good, just unfounded fears then... Thanks for the info Greg...
Europe is a difrent life than the uk they preserve there history unlike here in scotland they dont it seems.
"One bridge too far"
Two many Bridges in this video 😂😁
Do you need to wear face nappies in open public spaces ?
Gruel 🤣
Have a shave lol
It’s never more than two days before I have to get rid of it.
I’m on my holidays so give me a break 😂😁
@@GregVirgoe Lol luv ya vids
Great video. Be great to see more horizon in drone footage to see more of the area 😀
