  • The Dolomites in northern Italy, a Stunning section of the Alps. We take our self-built camper van over some amazing mountain passes at high altitudes. The views we find are incredible.
    Driving down from the Penser Josh pass we stay in a free car park at the foothills of the mountains goo.gl/maps/YN...
    We drive back up into the mountains to a beautiful lake surrounded by a rugged mountain ridge at Lago di Carezza goo.gl/maps/sF...
    We continue to drive our van further north over the famous Sella Pass reaching an altitude of 2200m goo.gl/maps/jU...
    Our last parking place for this video was another stunning mountain lake of crystal clear turquoise waters at Lago di Braies goo.gl/maps/EZ...
    Both of the lakes have paid car parks where it is acceptable for campervans to stay overnight, the charges range from £15-25 a night.
    If you liked this video please do give it a thumbs up and make sure you are subscribed to the channel for further videos from this incredible trip.

      @@GregVirgoe hope you don't mind me asking but the shureflo pump you use, once it's primed, does it continue to draw power? I don't know whether to run an inline switch so once it's primed, I can turn it off, or leave it permanently live? Hope you can help.

    • @GregVirgoe

      @@adamgrace5973 it has an in built pressure switch so once it reaches pressure the switch turns the pump off so the power is only being used when the pump is actually running.
      It’s a good idea to wire a switch in a convenient place anyway because when your tank runs out of water the pump will run constantly trying to suck up water from an empty tank so at that point it’s good to switch it off so it doesn’t run to long and damage the solenoid. Hope that helps. 👍🏼😃

    Lovely. Seems to be a repost, or am I going mad?
    On the Truma side, can't remember exactly if you fitted one - they have a temperature sensitive auto drop out valve. Idea is to prevent damage from freezing. Came to mine a couple of weeks ago after an early frost, it had dumped the water from the boiler. Good result. Might not be so important if you're living in. But if you leave the van for a while in winter...

    • @GregVirgoe
      @GregVirgoe  2 роки тому +1

      Our van internally has a frost setting on it and the Truma texts me if it drips below 10° inside the van. Then I can put the hearing on to keep the frost off.

    Hi Greg love your videos.
    Hope you guys are having a good time during winter.
    We have a similar design campervan as your and we have a issue with mold on the garage area and the cold parts of the van during the winter time.
    Do you have issues with mold?
    Can you make a video on how you deal with mold and condensation issues during the winter time. I think that will be really helpful for many of us vanlifers.
    Thanks in advance and happy new year 🥳 😀👊

    • @GregVirgoe
      @GregVirgoe  2 роки тому +1

      The key to not getting mould in your van is to keep it warm and well ventilated. We never let our van get below 10°C inside. I have an alarm set on the Truma that texts me if the van drops below that. So it acts like a frost protection. We have heating vents at all of the cold areas of the van. Cab, side door, shower and a vent by the rear doors and garage.

    Awesome area and your photos are amazing. Soo pleased the weather was kind to you. Many thanks for bringing us along. As a matter of interest, what temperature could you maintain inside the van @ night when it was minus 2 - 5C outside?. Any idea how much LPG you used in 24 hr period to maintain that?. I have a 7m motorhome and hope to do some trips to various ski stations this season. Thanks again!!

    • @GregVirgoe
      @GregVirgoe  2 роки тому +1

      The Truma heater keeps the van easily at any temperature you like. You can have it in the mid twenties inside when freezing outside no problem at all. To be honest we set it it on eco mode, low fan speed and 18-20° when cold and it’s always really cosy inside. We use about £5 of gas a week in the depth of winter. Approx £20 a month.
      Top up the bottle every 3weeks to be on the safe side.

    Hi Greg - just wondering about staying over above 1500m - do you have any diesel heater concerns? My Eberspacher is supposed to have a high altitude kit when parked up above 1500m, to avoid complete combustion issues - coking up, carbon monoxide etc?

    • @GregVirgoe
      @GregVirgoe  2 роки тому

      Diesel heaters and our Truma are rooms sealed heaters meaning the combustion side of the heater is completed segregated from the warm air room side. Any slight variance with combustion would be discharged outside the vehicle. You wouldn’t have any issues inside the vehicle. But as you say you might get a little less combustion with lower oxygen. @@googlelimp9834 what actually happens at altitude is the surrounding air pressure decreases which lowers the boiling point of water. At 2000m the boiling point of water drops to 93° so if your engines runs hot it could boil sooner than normal.

      @@GregVirgoe thatys what i was tryingto say I raced in the french alpes every year for years but I kept blowing all the engines from a Mercedes vito, to a ford van, a volvo T5 think coupe car with over 300hp, every year blew a vehicle until I was told buy a separate water cap drill a hole in it to stop the engines blowing up even on the sprinter I had, so I got one drilling the old one and I've never blown since. just sayijng

      @@googlelimp9834 I don’t understand how that would help as that goes against all theory. If you can keep the pressure in the water system the boiling point would be higher. If you let the pressure out you are lowering the boiling point??

      We Italians love to race as we see long empty roads with plenty of bends. I know it's wrong, but it's something out of our self-control.😅
