- The time has finally come for the $425 Mk5 Jetta to get its new motor !
The Mk5 Jetta is 2010 with a 5 Cylinder 2.5 L & we are swapping in the same motor but from a 2007 Mk5. As we do the swap we realize that not exactly everything is the same... 😂
After diagnosing a few things we swap some engine wiring over & sensors. Then we instal the motor after hours at the shop. Everything seems to be going smoothly until we have a good old fashion rumble with the transmission 😅

The problems you mentioned with the oil and the rear main seal is probably just the vacuum pump for the brakes. I just fixed this, it's a common 2.5l problem. You can delete it and run the vacuum from the intake manifold. You can look up a delete kit or how to diy it.

Probably broke the Transaxle pump gears (by not installing the torque converter in the Transaxle) when installing the first time.

The trick with the AC, I did always with my MK2 syncro when I had to change the clutch, it was so much more easy to take out the motor and see what you was doing with the gearbox.
I think you damaged the oil pump on the transmission I assume that the torque converter was not fully installed it’s a rookie mistake I did the same on a 1.8 T B5 Passat and I’m a full time independent VW mechanic and now I mesure with a straight edge across the bell housing and mesure how far the end of the converter stick out there is factory specs on this in VW repair manual.
Yes, I think you’re correct. This was my first 09G and I didn’t open the book before doing it, d’oh.
I knew when the wheels didn’t move the atf internal pump went out, pulled the rookie mistake like this myself on a MK6 Tiguan

Ive been there. My 67 vw bug has had and issue for awhile of it not starting at all. Weird stuff. Started fine b4 i swaped the carb and coil, used the original and it wont work😑 lots of fun...haha great video jamie! Love seeing the work

The coilovers are totally a win thanks to Solo-Werks ! 💙 We have another auto transmission to try before doing a manual swap. Trying to make this more budget friendly without having to spend all the extra money on those manual swap parts. :)
Bummer on the gearbox.. but that'll make it even better at the end, a bit of struggle builds character!

Could it be the timing covers and backing plates sounds like a squealing noise maybe the tensioner is slightly touching that metal cover also be touching around the crankshaft pulley its constant so look around the spots like pulleys bearings etc

A Mk6 wheel could look good, but who knows what Ralph will end up getting as a wheel setup after winter :)
Any VCDS transmission adaptations attempted? Unless you guys were exceptionally rough with the transmission off camera, you already proved that it was mechanically functional, my bet is electrical/software.
We went through it with VCDS while it was rolling and in the air. Going to try another transmission this weekend ♥︎

This was the one that already was in the Mk5 when we bought it. It seemed to shift fine on the test drive. Unfortunately it was probably on its last leg. No worries though, we have another transmission to try soon :) Thank you for the support !! ❤️
just curious as to what was the issue with Ralphs old truck was it repaired.
The Ford Ranger ended up being the passenger ball joints & needing a new spindle. He was able to sell it as is. So right now he’s daily driving his Mk3 Golf project until the Mk5 Jetta is ready :)
Good job on the engine, shame bout the gerbox but dmn it ends well for the Jetta :D

Lost my wheel key went to dealership had them install 4 plain lugs for like $25-30 US. best decision I ever made

I didn’t follow what you did with the torque converter but it sounds like you damaged the pump when the torque converter was installed the first time! Duh!!! That’s a bummer.
Unfortunately we think that might have happened or the transmission just died due to bad maintenance like the old motor. We will be trying another transmission soon ❤️

im so excited about this build. also the 09g trans is awful just get rid of it... they all will fail eventually. supposedly there's a trans shop in olympia washington that has re-engineered the 09g and fixed it. might want to contact thurston county transmissions transmissionsolympia com and see what they suggest
With the proper maintenance these transmissions aren’t bad. Unfortunately this one wasn’t properly maintained. We will be trying another one soon ! 🖤
Blame VW billing these as lifetime transmissions with no maintenance schedule 🤦♀️
@@SonyFoLife 09gs from 2009 till 2014 are pretty good. Factory recommends 40k miles services and I've seen them go north of 300k miles.....
You have to swap ECU for MAP.
We swapped the ECU as well. We will be trying another transmission soon :)

Right now we aren’t doing any outside work besides a friends car here & there because of covid & being in the middle of upgrading the shop. Hopefully by spring we can try to figure something out though ❤️❤️❤️
