An 05.5 Jetta! This was one of VW's mid year model changes. For the first part of 05 they had the Mk4 style cars then switched to these. This was the first year VW offered the 2.5 5 cylinder motor. I bought one of these when they came out. It's actually a great engine. They really don't have many problems.

The VW dealership wanted approx $1200.00 US dollars to replace my 2008 VW 2.5 Rabbit vacuum pump and gasket.(the same one in this video).. (this is when my new mechanic - a guy who has a shop since the 1970's, and only works on VW's and Audi's was found).... my new mechanic said, "you don't need a new pump"...he fixed for approx. $275.00.
Can easily replace spark plugs, air filter myself... AND that coolant reservoir Hoovie mentioned leaked in the middle ... $35.00 to replace....
My new mechanic said that the rust...(the tiny bit right above front tire)...was from the sound deadening foam located up in the fender, he pulled both foam blocks out of both front fenders.... He also said its a good car, and that he could get a new engine if needed for approx $900.00 ....it has approx 170,000 miles. He has a unique way of checking the transmission fluid, however, have to leave it at the garage overnight....has to be cold....then he adds transmission fluid by temperature somehow.

The window motor/door control module is a rare item to actually have fail. And you have to make sure it's not only the right part number but also the right "color code" based on the car's VIN number to properly match and be able to talk to everything else on the convenience system data bus (central convenience and electronics module, all the other door modules etc).
What IS common, however, is for these early mk5 Jettas to have broken wires in the door harness. VW had an extended warranty for them even because it was so common (but generally ends after the car is 10 years old or older). They have an updated harness that's a fair bit longer that supposedly prevents the harness from bending excessively in the same location, leading to eventual wire breakage.
While the extended warranty is long gone, they should still have the updated harness at a more reasonable price than a new door module.

Coincidentally, I had that same handbrake issue on a ‘98 VW GTI. Seems the little rubber boots at the rear ends of the cables had deteriorated, letting in water which would then freeze and lock the brakes on. I eventually replaced the cables, and it was actually a pretty easy job. Just FYI.

This is not a 2005 Jetta the production date was probably in 2005 but the model year is a 2006 it’s a MK5 Jetta the 2005 is a MK4 . the windows regular problem is most likely broken wires in the flexible rubber boot near the door hinges also the vacuum pump normally leaks where the pump mates to the cylinder head and also on the plastic nipple where the vacuum hoses is connected the pump is easier to remove on 5 speed manual cars the automatic is harder.

Wizard check the wire loom that connects the body to the door the wires some of the wires are probably broken they tend to do that. Vw and audi theu all do that. I just fixed mine the person I bought my audi he said the window wasn't working he said he had it changed and was still not working but I knew what it was and fixed it. Let me know if it was that. Good luck.

The window turned out to be due to some of the wires in the driver side door wiring harness being too short so they get cut and stop working.
