The Volkswagen 2.5 is easily one of the most underrated platforms. It's very available, it's quite reliable, despite being a Volkswagen engine, and clearly the engine is overbuilt to handle A LOT more punishment than it would ever see in a naturally aspirated configuration. This being said, the 5 valve 1.8 turbo is quite formidable as well.
The difference is the 2.5l is a tank compared to the 1.8t 20v. The 1.8t runs out of reliability around the high 200-300Hp mark with the rods abandoning ship, Lol. The 2.5l with is low cr is almost as if VW was going to boost it then like the oe 12v VR6 changed their minds. Its no reason to use a forged crank in a low Hp NA engine, yet like my 05.5 some can still be found waiting for their owner to get bored and take a walk into the boost life.
@@emotionalintelligence776 Definitely agree, but the 1.8 is an attractive choice simply because it does more out of the box and already comes with a turbo on it, even if its maximum potential is more limited than the 2.5's
