You sold me on a super splitter when I bought mine almost 2 years ago. They could not get the Honda engines at the time so I put a Chinese made diesel on it. What a great machine. I can split a cord an hour with it and most of that time is spent gettin the rounds to the splitter. Thanks for turning me on to the super splitter Joe!

Hi Joe. What a testimony to the perfect split system for your business. I’m glad I listened to you when I bought mine a little over a year ago. Wow, nearly a year without resplitting. It was great seeing the super split back in action. I wish mine had a log lift, but then those big rounds could be a pain to position to split on there. I’ve found to notch the big rounds when I buck them. Use that notch as a starting point and then drive a wedge through to make them manageable pieces. Great tips on the pros and cons. Another great video. Hopefully the weather will cooperate to get things done before the move. And I’m loving the podcast over this past year! Have a great day 👍🏻!

This is the splitter I started with! I ended up upgrading to an eastonmade ultra because it's basically a super splitter with a 4 way wedge and a single wedge that can split anything
I think what the Ultra brings is it is more all-weather and durable like that
@@ohiowoodburner yeah for sure. A bit pricier than the super split. Still though, for resplitting, or for splitting non-knotty wood, the super split is the greatest and nothing beats it!
I just know from my experience, at least starting off, I got a ton of free tree service wood. Tree service wood is awesome for starting out. As you know, sometimes it can be a bit rough and knotty, and I found the super splitter struggling with it. The ultra can bust through anything with the really tall single wedge. Pros and cons to everything like you said

If I got another smaller splitter I would definitely lean towards getting one of these. I need my I-beam splitter for vertical splits.
That was a good tip about not running the Supersplitter when it’s raining or snowing.
The key is to keep the top beam clean. Rain and wet wood gums things up fast!
Joe, I love my Supersplit and glad I learned about it through you, otherwise I may have wasted money on one of those slow I-beam splitters! I cannot believe how fast it is, its fun to use, and splitting wood is no longer the bottleneck for me:) Thanks for sharing!

My super splitter Was the backbone of our firewood buisness for 30 years. Been fully rebuilt twice, 3 honda engines. Now I use it for about 20 cord a year just for me and friends.

Looks like the SuperSplit has been on vacation for a while... that wedge is getting some patina on it, LOL ! Gotta get it shined up again.
It got some snow on it back in Dec...blew thru a crack in the door and put a few rust spots on it LOL
I love my SS. It's a learning curve when it comes to knots. I figured it out by splitting around them then when I come to the knot make sure the knot is against the wedge otherwise it will spin stick up at you. I do have one complaint or design flaw with the SS. The rubber stoppers do not last. I make up my own now with rubber cork/plug and 1/4" bolt.

Awesome Joe! Would love to see a side by side comparison of the super splitter and an Easton Made Ultra. They seem to be comparable in price and speed.
Prob same in speed but the Ultra has a little more robustness to it.
I own a Oregon professional kinetic splitter, nearly identical, alot of the same or similar parts. I love it, it's reliable, it's fast, and it works hard like I do. That's all I need. The only thing that would be better is an eastonmade axis

That splitter is definitely fast. I get that free wood. You know well as o do it not free. Lots big rounds. So I use one them slow box store splitters. Hope to get one with log lift next year. Nice looking wood. That perfect split definitely nice no resplitting. Keep up the good work.

I too like smaller splits, but 29" long. Don't like messing with heavy stuff when it is supper cold/windy/snowing outside. Load the boiler and back inside!🤣

The super splitter was on the top of my list when I started my firewood hustle. The Super Split was on the top of my list because of its speed and affordability. I decided on the Split-fire 2265 because of safety. Both are very fast, lightweight, durable, well built, and affordable machines. However, the Split-fire tips the scales when it comes to safety. The Split-fire is the safest splitter on the market. Plus, I was able to order my Split-fire with a log lift. Carpe diem!
Not sure I agree with you after looking this splitter up. Looks slow and that might be it’s safety feature you mention?
The Super Splitter is VERY FAST & as long as a person concentrates what they are doing is quite safe.
I have had a similar style model for over 10 years and no safety issues since I am the individual running the controls & my occasional helpers are the people placing the logs on my custom made extended table as well as removing the split pcs once I shove them to the side out of path of the splitter wedge.
Like most pieces of equipment, only operate when you have your mind in the game and cell phone safely tuck away to avoid distractions.
@Brian 716 less than a 4 second cycle time. It is impossible for one person to keep up with it. The downside is that it is a single wedge. The safety factors are from the angled stops. They prevent kickouts. With no return stroke, there are no injuries associated with return stroke. Carpe Diem!

That hickory was great looking…sized perfectly for my smoker. I’ve contemplated doing a small part time firewood business down here in GA but 1, there’s not enough of a demand and 2, everyone and their brothers sell “seasoned” firewood when it gets cold down here.
Sounds just like my area Jim. My goal was to go after homeowners who don't buy firewood and it worked. Don't sell to people who heat with wood and you can go far!

I stopped this video at the beginning before finish watching it because I am so torn about my next splitter purchase. I have been following your channel and business for quite a while and was convinced that the SS was going to be the choice to replace my box store splitter, but I’m waffling due to the 4 second cycle on the eastonmade ultra. The ultra also has great tires and suspension for towing unlike the SS, and moving the splitter to the wood will sometimes be necessary as I get started making serious wood. Ultimately, I need a quick cycle splitter that can move to the rounds behind a truck or four wheeler and also be moved into position in a system that includes a front end loader to move logs, a bucking table at waist height to saw them with just enough incline to roll them onto a conveyor table to feed the splitter that spits splits into a grain conveyor that loads a truck or trailer.
My new splitter needs to be able to move in and out of that production line and take a beating behind a truck or side by side and I’m not sure the SS will handle that. The Ultra seems beefier and more able to handle such transitions and travel rough ground.
The other consideration is the idea of lifting the same splitter onto a gooseneck trailer and temporarily mounting it in a process that feeds totes that can be filled and lifted off the sides; I’m going to explore the idea that I can find a tree service that will cut rounds my desired length in exchange for removing wood from the site. Using a winch to pull a sled with rounds to the trailer and a boom to lift them to the splitter is the desired process.
Wood production for sale will be a part of my last chapter but I need to use a system designed to save my arthritic frame. I’m not as stout as Scheib or Chris and not as clever as Tool Tony but I am as funny as Joe!
Now I’m going to watch this video and ponder once again my future purchase. It’s not so bad getting older it’s just those decisions decisions 😉
Hearing your situation I think the Ultra would be better suited for you. It is tough and won't ever fail. The SS is prob faster but it is a little finicky with the weather etc
This was the one I wanted for the farm up north but before I bought it, my Dad already bought the slow cycling hydraulic cylinder from Tractor Supply. When he isn't around I just use hammer and maul. It's only firewood for personal use, and the hammer/maul combo is more productive, as sad as that is to say.

I've never seem those here, but we don't have a wide range of splitters in our retail stores. S couple have electric splitters and you can order a gas splitter amd one store which is like TSC had gas splitters on display
I have only seen Oregon splitters in stores and I heard they didn't do to well. The rack and pinion would break.

Never knew they existed. Seems like a no brainer. Kinetic appears to be a win any way you look at it. What are the negs if any? Could it handle a 4 way wedge?
The Super-Split is fine for the small logs. A hydraulic 4-way splitter like mine would smoke it in the bigger logs that need a 4-way split, then whack each of those big splits with another hit through the 4-way wedge. For resplitting off of a processor, that Super-Split would leave my machine in the dust. Like anything, the right tool for the right job!
I am not boasting but there is NO WAY you could beat me with a 4 way. I would leave you in the dust LOL!!!

That's a good choice. I think the Ultra brings a lot to the table where the SS has some limitations
My Iron & Oak splitter does vertical & horizonal, I have a chair when using vertical, just call me lazy !
a hand split all my customers wood. It doesn't seem to get all the splinters that way and it keeps me in shape and warm in the winter. if I was going to buy a splitter I would definitely buy that one though.
Your Eastonmade axis is a nice machine but there is a few things that could be done to make it better such as putting rollers inside the lift and table to assist in easy block movement just like the superaxe ws4150.
Another thing Easton made should have done was make the left side of the table shorter so when you finish splitting you aren’t lifting or throwing the pieces into the lift but more of having them fall in.
Why this is a big deal is if you watch a split force machine, when they split a round instead of cutting just one piece off at a time, you cut the log into multiple pieces so it looks like a tic tac toe board.
If you try to do that type of cuts with the Easton made there’s no point on the eastmade since you have to lift the pieces to throw them into the conveyor as apposed to just pushing/ knocking them in since the conveyor is so close to the splitter. The problem with the split force is that the table is to low and the foot pedal is to high .
So it seems all of the machines could use alittle tweaking…

Before deciding on what equipment to buy for a firewood business, you need to know what your customers expect and what you are receiving for tree length inventory. There is a lot of good equipment available. Choose according to your particular needs. A Super Split might be a good splitter to start with, and you'll probably never want to sell it.

I lamented not hearing about the Super Splitter a few years back when I broke down and bought an I beam splitter, fine for vertical splits, but now I am beginning to have issues with the cheaply made splitter.
I'd like an electric model with a stand alone power supply using a solar trickle charger!

Contact super splitter, become a dealer and display one at the new yard. Work with all manufactures you rep and sell new or used splitters and log deck. Pellets would be perfect. Sell 50# bags at 10.00 vs the competition. That's $400.00 a ton!! Get a pellet mill/bager mfg partner to promote their brand and process on the channel. It all comes out of a marketing budget. Spend it on utube hands on demonstrations with a discount code to track purchases or inquires. After 10 sold, raffle your pellet line and upgrade after your peers give advice on the channel. Invaluable for any companies growth is to listen to customers. Definitely chain equipment down. Thieves are clever.
Tree services need places besides the landfill to dump chips, dust and rounds. Give them good direction on stacking the rounds by species and where to dump the chips. All multiple variety clean up junk wood gets ran through a hammermill and made into bulk heating pellets or compost adding green waste drop charges. Fence it and then sell eggs from chickens in the compost pile using electric nets and a mobile coop to attack that mound of money adding nitrogen and composting it for you. The eggs are a great bonus for restaurant delivery. Your already going with firewood. Real free range eggs make a big difference. Same with broilers. Return with green waste for your restaurant kitchens. Pizza to salad waste. Fertiler is in short supply so let the restaurants pay you the trash pickup fee and you resell the eggs. Do more business with those your already in partnership. They respect your commitment to there needs. Exploit that service with better mulch, compost, eggs, chicken. Grow a load for your open house. They will also compost wood chips mixed with green waste. Get a haulit trailer to deliver via belt low to the ground both wood, compost and woodcips. Just crank it off including totes and pallets.
Can super splitter do what the Axis does?
The Axis is unstoppable and it can pick up the log!
Does this splitter struggle with difficult wood? Large crotches, knots etc. if so does it bounce back or how does it react?
I've been watching some vids of Tirex wood splitters, they seem to cope with gnarly wood.
It will go thru anything you can pick up to the table. It will take a few hits but will eventully get thru it.
@@ohiowoodburner what is the reaction like it doesn't go through? Does it come flying back in an aggressive manner? The reason I ask, like 10-12 years ago I had a centrifugal splitter from a store that is known to supply tractors. It was great until it encountered knots or tough pieces. The handle would drive up into your hand and make you see stars. The bolts on the splitter bar would routinely get bent and damaged. Eventually those machines were recalled and they replaced mine at no cost for a conventional log splitter
I'm not knocking it just don't know anymore than what I saw in the video. To mer the wood looked pretty dry already, how's this stack up to fresh cut wood?

Not sure if I like it don’t look that safe! Don’t stop when you let off the handle and kind of fast !! Would have to run one to be sure my friend has a DR very similar and he likes it!!

There's an Amish machinist last name Yoder down by Shreve,; OH, that makes that same thing, only IMO, slightly better! Nothing wrong with the Super Splitter. There's a friend up near Cleveland, uses one. He makes between 6 and 700 CORDS a year, no other splitter! He said he had to do some repair on it, after (I think) 24 yrs!!!! Anyway, I was at Yoder's shop with a stop watch. He said cycle time less than 3 seconds! Well, I had to see it and time it. He ran some wood thru it, warmed it up. I stepped up and timed it, several times, about 17 or so. That thing made a liar out of him!! It cycled in 1.9 seconds!!!! Every time! He just kinda grinned, said he didn't want to brag. He sells them all over the world. I couldn't afford one, at the time, but never forgot that amazing mosheen!!! Even better, they'll run for a week or two on 3 thimbles of gas, ...well, pretty dang economical anyway! So, I guess I sorta agree with you.
Lots of Yoders around Shreve involved with wood but I could not find a man making these splitters .

@@josephpadula2283 His shop was on SR514, near, I think, Mill Machine shop. It would be a Big Prairie address, not sure which Post Office. I've gotten directions before from a local PO, so if all else fails, you might try them, or the Shreve constabulary. Or drive along 514, ask any Amish you see, they all know each other, they'll point it out, no problem. Rt 514 from Shreve to Nashville, about halfway over. Good luck.

Why wouldn't you just use your other truck 11? Either 2 deliver to the restaurant or if you don't want to because it's not as clean looking andecaled. Then you could have on loaded your white truck into the other truck. So that it's not on the ground then? Do your restaurant delivery and then neither load it back in your white truck or use the gray truck for your residential delivery
Lettered and decal isn't really my concern. In this case my other truck was loaded up with a washer and dryer heading to Pittsburgh LOL
You have just demonstrated that one splitter can't always handle every sitting chore perfectly. One needs multiple splitters to "save the day".
Yes, the Axis could handle this small task, but its slower, and is like "using a sludge hammer to kill a fly"! Handling the firewood demands of a fussy "restaurant business" is very tough.
One can't let these people down. Ofcourse, they must pay for "premium service" which you always deliver. Good work!
