I think the equipment your using suits most smaller operations like us well. Even with 2 guys it’s hard to get full potential out of the big comercial splitters because you’ll get tired quick working at the pace they can go at. I’ve always thought the best way to pay woodyard help is by the amount you get done. Like x amount per basket. How hard they work dictates what they make. 2 slow guys will make a lot less wood then you and your nephew. Keep up the good work!
Appreciate your input Genin! I like the way you think. And you’re right about keeping up with a productive splitter. I go by X amount per basket or X amount per hour and figure out which one pays the most and I’ll usually go with the higher price if they worked hard which has usually been the case. Hey Mr. Del!! Thank you! We were trying to get a lot done in a little time. I keep a toothpick holder on me all the time and I was about out b/c I forgot to refill it so I was using them sparingly. 😂😂 Appreciate you always being here and commenting!!
Nice work, I have a similar setup with two of us on a kinetic splitter, one thing that helped us was using an old wooden table for the helped that's the same height as the splitter table, they can have about 10 logs sitting ready to be split.
I have been pondering this for a bit after I have seen others build a staging table for rounds as they have a fixed location where they setup their splitter. I thought about it, but realized I may need to move things around. Then it occurred to me that I have a flatbed trailer that sits around most of the time. That may make a good staging platform for log rounds that I can park next to the splitter. It won't be quite at waist height, but it may be workable if I lay pallets down on the surface and then put the rounds on top of that. If the weather warms up I am going to stage some rounds on the flatbed and see if I can make that work. Otherwise I have seen another youtuber who is using a pallet on pallet forks with the tractor to work as a platform for staging rounds next to the splitter. I would like to avoid that if I can as I need that tractor to be moving totes as well.
Glad it was helpful! Comments like yours make it worth the time and effort! Kinetic splitters won’t muscle through crotch pieces like a hyd will but makes up for it with speed. It will split knots or crotches but I try to pick and choose which to mess with. I plan to do a video on that one day. God bless you man and thanks for your time!!

@@TwinCityFirewood I just know as long as the machine is there and working it’s there to be used. You won’t always have help or employees. Sick days and what not. When it’s your business you do what you have to do. And let me tell you. Firewood is an awesome business. You meet so many good people and people talk. Having a good product, the word spreads fast and before you know it your sold out before the season even begins. Trust me you can grow that into something really big if you wanted. Something your kids can run one day and you sit back and smile at what you created for them. That’s my goal for my boys.
@@TwinCityFirewood yes, super split didn’t want me to do it , they were worried I might break the knife off or bend the beam. By off setting it the add on does not take the first hit.
Thanks for the video. I wouldn't get too attached to the siren song of those monster vertical splitters. There are vids on youtube doing the heads up comparisons, timings, and races between horizonal and vertical. It really is a wash. The big advantage for the vertical is the ability to be precise with the splits for doing firewood bundles. If that is your niche then maybe there is a way to justify that cost. I would recommend watching some of those vids and really thinking about whether vertical is really an advantage for your specific operation. The real key is cycle time, work surface height, and the amount of work surface you have to be able to move and manipulate the rounds and splits. I have a question for you. If you are filling IBC totes why wouldn't you just stage those next to the splitter and then just toss and fill those by hand? I can understand using an elevator if you are mounding up a huge pile, or if you are filling a dump trailer or something of that nature, but It seems like added complexity that doesn't need to be there for IBC totes. Just curious the thought process for your workflow. I was wondering which production table you have on your SS. It looks wider than the standard production table they offer today on the SS web site. The current "standard" production table says it is 32" wide, but yours looks much wider than that. If you add the wider production table available today it looks more like an add on to the sides that just sticks out, but looks like an after thought. So I was curious when this changed. Production table is the business end of the SS that really raises the productivity of the unit.
Thanks for watching! I totally agree with you about the conveyor adding some complications to the process. I wanted to make a project out of it and bring it back to life. It had been sitting under a tree at daddy’s place for years. I rarely use it anymore, really only when I have a big pile of wood & I’ll set several totes under the mouth of the conveyor. That seems to make it more efficient. But mostly, I do like what you say with the tote at the business end of the splitter. If you watch any of my more recent videos you’ll see that. I think you’re spot on about the key features you mentioned for a splitter that fits a specific operation’s needs. I just like how the vertical splitters look better for posture 😂. I definitely can’t justify the cost. As far as the production table goes, my splitter is about 4 years old. I’m not sure when they changed the design but it does look odd to me. I like the style I have a little better I believe. Thanks again for watching and taking time to comment!! Hope you’ll be back!! 🤝
@@TwinCityFirewood I agree with you, I think your production table makes more sense than the new one on the SS and I like that better. You nailed it on the head regarding posture. I want my rounds staged at a working height, and I want the production table at a good height so that I am not hunching over. I am looking at that Split-Fire 1165V as a possible contender for that exact reason. It is vertical and the surface is about 32" high. But the amount of space on that table is limited. But it can be equipped with a log lift which is a bonus. So I am still trying to decide which will provide the best ergonomics for getting the job done.
@@Longsnowsm yeah. The 1165v is a solid looking little splitter. There are several channels showing them off now. Very budget friendly too. It definitely lacks working area but that can be fixed with a homemade table of some sort. Just more to move around. Good luck in your search!!

Awesome video man! How long did thay take you and yoir nephew? I just got the dr kinetic 75 rapid fire the SS knockoff
@@bbeaudrie19 I can’t really remember how long it took us that day but on average I split a loose basket by myself in 25 mins with just a steady pace. Hope that helps and glad you liked the video!!
Appreciate your comment!! 👊🏻

Pay in kind, go help him do something?
I like your style… he’s my nephew so we’re obligated to help each other when needed 😂. He is good help, definitely worth the cost of pay and seems to enjoy firewood. I think we’ll be doing this more often.
I appreciate your input and time watching!!

How much you pay him per hour in US dollars should be directly dependent on who he votes for this year..... it's the american way.🙂
😂😂😂. I like the way you think!!
Thanks for watching!!
