- The Type 16 (FPS) in War Thunder is a Japanese Light Tank that's EXTREMELY fast. It's also one of, if not the most modern vehicle in War Thunder.
Outfitted with Generation 3 Thermal Imaging and a 105mm Cannon, this is almost a perfect flank and spank vehicle. The problem is, though... the shell it gets is pretty rubbish.
At 9.0 it's a fantastic grinder, the best there is for Japan. With a top speed of 60mph and an excellent scope, it's ideal for getting into a good early position and harassing the enemy.
Pretty cool thank if you ask me. Just don't let Hector modify it! :)

Honestly, my favorite thing about the Type 16, is how trolly the armor profile is. Had this thing bouncing darts or taking almost no damage from them
Same thing with the AGS too. If you angle it right you’re able to get I think 300mm of effective armor from like 25mm of aluminum
People are not aware of how strong the Type 16 armor is for a wheeled light tank because of the spaced arrow head armor similar to the leopard 2.
@@i_nameless_i-jgsdf i mean, its not alot of armor at all, its just a really funky mess which leads to it bouncing stuff, and because no armor, if any dart does pen almost no dart can spall since there's not enough material to create spall

It is actually quite alot of armor against chemical rounds, like 300mm protection, and sub-caliber rounds need at least 130mm pen at 500 m this is above average for a light tank.
The richochet is from the extreme sloping of the armor, it happens every now and then nothing strange...
It's very annoying to fight because of this lol. Either your round bounces because of extreme angle/volumetric, or you get zero spall due to no armor=best armor

Just what I was thinking. It was a Puma, just not the PUMA he thought it was.
So one of the most interesting things about Japanese vehicles is the dectrine they were designed to follow. A lot of people like to play the Type 16, and even the Type 90 and 10, like standard MBT's and wheeled tanks. Japanese doctrine is actually to go in, punch as hard as possible, and get out when it gets too hot. If you play that way then you're rewarded handsomely by japanese tanks. If you play them like the Abrams or Challenger you'll suffer dearly.
As a Japan main, what I don't like about this thing is how it is just blatantly P2W. It sits at the same BR as the Type 16 P, with the exact same stats apart from the add-on armor, giving it much better protection. This wouldn't be as bad if the Type 16 P weighted less, but for whatever reason the lack of the additional armor does nothing and they weigh the same. Personally would've prefered they give it Type 93 and just make it a copy of the 9.3 version
Got my first (and so far only) ☢️ using the Type 16 FPS... I liked it.
Hey Odd you have to use the regular type 16 when you unlock it. Everyone overlooks it for the premium but it’s so much better with the type 93 round. Love your stuff man keep up the good work and content.❤

Good stuff, as per usual. You did get me addicted again, but I'm keeping it stricktly to BR's 2, 3, max 4. No grinds and after a number of days the routine kicks in and I shelve the game for a couple of weeks before returning.
I’m in the same boat. Came back and refused to to top tier, I’m not bad but I’m not the best. Now I’m playing 3-4.0. China have a blast for about an hour then put it away lol

The power of speed is important in WT, as demonstrated in this video. Like the Type 16, the Jpz 4-5 possesses incredible speed for its br, as well as a potent 90mm HEAT round. Definitely a must-play.

I feel the armor on it is under rated a lot, it's can be worth up to like 160mm of kinetic protection frontally and much more against chemical effect rounds, I've eaten BMP 2M missiles to the front without dying.
Good to know my STRV 103A is matched with such vehicles now that after BR change I get placed in 9.0 games 70% of time. Completely fair. Thanks Gaijin.

Really good premium, thinking of buying it during the anniversary sales, since all tech trees get foldered vehicles Japan will seem a bit smaller and definitely worth playing.

I'm pretty sure that the tank in the trees on the 2nd map, the one where 1st shot went over due to suspension bounce and then mg bullets fell short instead, was, in fact, alive, and was that Leo you killed on respawn.
Would be nice if you could play some line ups like 8.3 lineups of every country or something like that
If Heli PVE didn't last for literal hours and instead had a shorter version, you wouldn't see as many rocket rushers.

I have had less issues with the shell on the type compared to the XM1, I swear it feels like I am shooting spitwads. By comparison the Falaric on the cv90105 and Cv ct is so ridiculously good. I feel there is a lot of inconsistency between the realibility of post pen dmg, like heat for example cam be a nightmare.

I just went in there, and OddbawZ (Hector) is going to be running three Type 16's (Honda Civic's) with Spoon engines and, on top of that, he just came into Harry's and ordered three T66 turbo's with NOS and a MoteC systems exhaust!

Those tanks should be using the Depleted Uranium rounds. They don't spawl as much but go all the way through almost. they prob don't have the shells mass figured right as that's not open knowledge. since its in active use.
To be very honest, I've had a pretty good time with the M735 with my XM-1 (Chrystler). Because of the XM1's speed and armor, it allows me to get around enemy targets. Just catch Soviet MBT's on a flank and the M735 preforms wonderfully.
The XM-1 has the advantage of a better reload which really helps.
I never knew the XM-1 reloaded faster than the Type 16. That's quite interesting.@@OddBawZ

You say "full caliber cannon" but the shell isn't really 105mm thick right? My reasoning is that it's APFSDS and without the sabot it's probably 70mm or something right? Meaning that you get smaller spalling
Edit : after some research(not a lot tbf) i found that 120mm cannons fire 40mm darts if you don't count the sabot, if we apply the reasoning maybe this shell isn't much bigger or smaller than 40mm so it would be normal to not have a lot of shrapnel. It was an interesting research and i'm not trying to correct you or anything, just to have a discussion about it
