I too found it ironic that people I knew with locs always wanted to keep their hair and edges neat and slick down, what was the point of getting locks in the first place? I've had a phobia of getting locs because I saw people with thining edges and roots but now I'm reconsidering after watching this. It's all about tension and how tightly you are twisting your natural hair.
Thanks for the tips and i agree. I find it ironic how some people want to loc up but then become obsessed with keeping them super neat, edges laid, and uniform🤔To each their own i suppose. I have very frizzy fly away hair that always looks "old" after a few days no matter what i do. Now that im loc'd, same shit different day with retwists but thats ok i embrace it. If i constantly tried to make my hair look "done" all the time with styles and slathered it will all sorts of products im almost positive that id have no edges and loads of breakage. Causes so much stress on the hair and scalp.
Truly Zambian nothing is wrong with wanting coiffed hair but some people legit panic when one hair is out of place but wonder why they have thinning and breakage.I akin it to getting a relaxer touch up at the first millimeter of new growth sprouting in. Being obsessed with styling will cause your edges to be snatched...literally. If youre that obsessed with "perfect" hair it makes no sense to loc IMO.
This video was definitely useful. I've had my hair loc'd for almost 2 years now and I'm learning so much about it. What it likes and what it doesn't like. When it comes to retwisting my hair doesn't like it that much. So I just retwist once in a blue. I totally agree with you when it comes to retwisting as well as tight hair styles. It's so much stress on the crown and you can the stress the scalp is going through too. Thanks for sharing this. 🤙
This whole time I was thinking not retwisting would do damage or mess them up, definitely gonna retwist less and embrace the freeforming. Thanks for the enlightentment. Namaste💙 🙏
Great tips and your hair is freakin regal. My hair got way thicker when I went longer between interlock sessions. I got lazy on moisturizing and started seeing hella breakage but I'm back on track now.
Lots of people seem to think you look like Kerri Washington, lol. I do not. However you are GORGEOUS in your own right 💓. Y'all both got those high cheeks when you smile though. I love your hair!!!! Loc goals for real!!!!! Black Jamaican Castor oil is GREAT for thinking edges, it's even better to just leave it alone as much as possible.
I was thinking as far as having thinner locs in the back versus the front could be to the fact that you have two different hair textures. I have front back texture so my front and edges are different from the very back of my head. Even when I was younger before locking I had about 3 different curl patterns in my head.
Thanks Empress....I agree!! I will go months before retwisting and sometimes I come across individuals that don't agree with this and feel like a retwist is needed every 2-4 weeks. I personally do not like my scalp being exposed, glad I came across your video.
Great video sis. My roots are beyond healthy but I have experienced breakage at the ends especially my locks in the back. After this video I'm thinking I should moisturize more often. Thank you!
Frank that is the word! I found out a had a mild case of it in a few spaces on my head. Thank God my loctician caught it. Now I'm dealing with a Derm Doctor to take care of it. So I interlock only once every 2 months. It'S REAL!
I look at a lot of people with real locs and yours are the most beautiful I've ever scene. they're a nice size, they shine, and they are even and curly. just beautiful
I interlock however that gets done every 3-4 months. I was suffering from thinning edges but that had to do with me not knowing how to style my beauties😩 so my go to was a ponytail which turned out to be not so good👎🏽. I now wear my locs in pixie curls so that I can give my edges a chance to grow❤ back and I also stopped sleeping 😪with that satin slip free cap I noticed every morning upon rising it was pulling my edges back so with a new style which I wear all the time now no slip free cap my edges are flourishing beautifully😍 Praise Jah!!! interlocking works well for me. Twisting does not but to each his own. I can truly say my locs are Healthy and Alive😉.
As long as you don't interlock your hair tight then you should not experience breakage. I have seen people with thinning roots even when they twist their hair. Any sort of tension on the hair will cause breakage. Also the loc to root ratio has to be consistent when interlocking. If the locs are biger then the root of the hair then that can cause breakage too when interlocking. Interlocking is best for those that have micro locs or sisterlocks, as long as its not done too tight. You can do interlocs with traditional sized locs but you have to make sure the loc to root ratio is the same.
Omg your beautiful and thanks for all the information queen 👑 I started my loc journey two years ago..I wish my mom was that confident as your mom to start very early🙏🏽salute
Yeah I have hella bad hand in hair syndrome so put a head wrap or loc soc on most of the time while I'm at home and work (which luckily I can do) and have it out when I go places. It's been helping a lot
great video i naturally stopped retwisting my hair because i figured it would prevent thinning in the future (only about 2 years in) but i say the main issue that made me notice a little thinning and breakage was from getting tape ups at the barbershop, so now i give a slight twist on my dreads in the bottom rows of the front, back and sides then tie it all up to prevent those from thinning
I interlock because of my wash routine (seborrheic dermatitis causes me to have to wash at least twice a week), but I definitely spread it out. People look at me crazy when I don't care about my roots having that freshly done look all the time. Also I leave them a little loose instead of pulling them through until there's no more space.
Danielle Reed Hey luv, read up on the Bicarbonate Soda, Honey and Coconut Oil scalp masque. You could have a fungal/yeast infection rather than Seb' dermatitis😊
thank you - great video. I started my journey with #interlock 12-26-2016.I am six months in and did my first maintenance (#interlock) June 15, 2017. I only plan to maintain twice a year. In between #semi #freeforming
omg! Your locs are soo beautiful! I do have thin edges with my locs, but I wear my hair down over it because now they are long enough to cover. I just took out my twists after about a month and I think some locs on the side of my head might come off, the roots feel thin :/ and one of the left side is thin in the middle, I think that one is about to rip as well
SIS!!! Thank you! Your hair is hella healthy. ion know what possessed me into believing every wash, I have to re-twist. nonsense on my part. I'd like to know what shampoo, conditioner and oils you trust on your hair. Love your crown. Bless me, Please :)
the back of my hair was never thick like the front, even before i locked my hair it was always like that, i just assumed the back of my hair was a different texture than the front lol
Thanks ever so much for the video dearest it help so much my locks has been thinning and breaking from bleaching and interlocking and most of all dry scalp,
THANK YOU!!! i just got my starter locs done with interlocking and i literally was going to keep getting interlocks but i want the healthiest, thickest locs possible so i am definitely goign to opt for retwisting instead
I guess i would be considered semi free form. I retwist my locs every 4 months .My retwists are basically just palm rolling and I avoid twisting them tightly. I've never gotten designs as I want to keep it as low manipulation as possible. Between retwisting I just wash and separate them because if left completely unchecked - my new growth would fuse 2-3 locs into congos due to my hair being so thick . I have years before I see this kind of length but the most compliments I receive right now is how thick and dark my locs are . The last thing I want to do is pay someone to rip at my roots. Bare and puffy scalps don't look good to me personally - It just looks like a painful blueprint for Alopecia .
Inner lock once a month never will I do that... try every 4 to 6 month... but the way you gro and do your locs don't work for others... I feel like this... you should only learn and kno your own locs instead of listening to others that say what your doing wrong... because listening to others will cause you to Lose your locs and destroy... so people just need to learn there locs...
I wish twisting would work for me but my new growth doesn't grow with my locs, they grow away from my locs. I got no choice but to interlock. Lol. But these tips are great.
Jay Winter I have the same issue. I have to interlock but I only interlock every 4 months, so basically 3 times a year. I don't twist unless I braid my locs together which is like once a month or once every 2 months. I love to see my new growth for some odd reason lol. So far no thinning, no breakage, and I still got my edges!
Jay Winter me too! but don't do it often. I went a month and a week last Time. Trying to go a month and two weeks. I can't go much longe cause they are babies but hopefully I can go 2 months soon.
I am going to start my locs soon and I'm thinking about sizing because I want to grow them long. Originally I wanted Sisterlocks/Microlocs but I realized I'm not willing to sit in a chair at a salon for hours and there's no way in hell I'd do it myself and I fell in love with thicker locs recently. How difficult is it for you to wear your hair in buns and ponytails? Is your hair heavy when its down? Is it heavy when its up? You're beautiful.
I've been trying to get my hair how you got your hair I was trying to get it more thicker cuz I like the way you got your hair and that's how I want mines
I'm really contemplating starting my loc journey, but I feel like I don't know how to take care of starter locs or locs at all. I really don't want to get them if I don't know how to take care of them myself. I wanted to know if you have a video or could do a video on how to take care of starter locs?
I think I have been guilty of all of those, hence my thinning in the front. It's coming back but I am going to leave it alone a bit longer to let it grow back.
I never understand why the so called loc professionals don't naturally knows if you twist the locs so tight eventually the client hair will start having. breakage from the stress of to much pull. This is just common sense
When you say moisturize your hair... do you mean just put oil on your scalp everyday or are other things involved? At a lot of my locs are starting to thin and I moved to a place where it snows coming from the Caribbean.
It is too late for mine. Already thinning. But it could be made worse because I have seborrhaic dermatitis and I take antidepressants. I wonder can they cause thinning? I will be getting off the antidepressants as soon as I am able. Just trying to get enough funds so I can see a psychiatrist so I can ween myself off of them properly.
Hey, Danielle I'm a new subscriber. I interlock once every 6-8weeks but really want to stop. I know about comb twist n palm but is there other retwisting can i d
great tips what products should i use for baldness i do have alot of hair but it getting thinning and im a guy i used to braid alot but now i dont i just put my hair in a pony
Is it ok if i give my locks a 1 week break .... In each n every month ? Or it depends to the quality of hair i have in nature .... Because i have very strong hair
I had a whole conversation with a girl about why my locs were so thick I told her I don't do alll those tight hairstyles and during the summer I go 2 months without retwisting.😂😭
You look like Kerry Washington with locs. Pretty ☺
lol thanks i get told that a lot on here
Danielle Loxs You're Welcome
Giggles OMG SHE DOESSSSS
Danielle Loxs you are a goddess
Giggles She does, lol. 😍😍❤️❤️✨✨
I definitely go months without getting my roots retwisted and so many great tips
I too found it ironic that people I knew with locs always wanted to keep their hair and edges neat and slick down, what was the point of getting locks in the first place? I've had a phobia of getting locs because I saw people with thining edges and roots but now I'm reconsidering after watching this. It's all about tension and how tightly you are twisting your natural hair.
love your locs. & really love the fact that you told them to love their nappy roots❤👑✨
Just plain common sense, loved it.
exactly lol
I was losing my edges, I learned that my hair does best when I go for like 6-8 months without a retwist
KylaKay Bee exactly
KylaKay Bee how often were you getting them done before you started going 6-7months between retwist?
Olivia P like every two weeks.
KylaKay Bee that's good! I've been pushing it every two months. I'm trying to get on your level, every 6-7 months lol Go head girl!
Olivia P lol it's tough fr, but I see her locs and stay focused.
Thanks for the tips and i agree. I find it ironic how some people want to loc up but then become obsessed with keeping them super neat, edges laid, and uniform🤔To each their own i suppose. Ayeshia Wyatt Same here
So if you want locs, are you not supposed to keep them neat, edges laid, and uniform? What's "obsessive" about it?
Truly Zambian nothing is wrong with wanting coiffed hair but some people legit panic when one hair is out of place but wonder why they have thinning and breakage.I akin it to getting a relaxer touch up at the first millimeter of new growth sprouting in. Being obsessed with styling will cause your edges to be snatched...literally. If youre that obsessed with "perfect" hair it makes no sense to loc IMO.
Truly Zambian Because part of having locs is tomhave a carefree natural style
Ayeshia Wyatt l agree because l thought that natural style is to have a carefree look.
This video was definitely useful. I've had my hair loc'd for almost 2 years now and I'm learning so much about it. What it likes and what it doesn't like. When it comes to retwisting my hair doesn't like it that much. So I just retwist once in a blue.

Thanks for sharing this. 🤙
Like... No makeup and breathtakingly beautiful. I legit tear up when i see gorgeous ass people😂😂💕
This whole time I was thinking not retwisting would do damage or mess them up, definitely gonna retwist less and embrace the freeforming. Thanks for the enlightentment. Namaste💙 🙏
I've been locking for 31 years. If you just leave them free to grow is best thing for them as you stated.
Great tips and your hair is freakin regal. My hair got way thicker when I went longer between interlock sessions. I got lazy on moisturizing and started seeing hella breakage but I'm back on track now.

traction alopecia that's the word💯💪🔥😍

Great tips. I never wear loc styles. I retwist every 3 months. Also I keep it simple.
Ur so beautiful ugh😍 your hair, your lips, your eyes, that gorgeous smile, glowing skin, your energy ....Only God could create one so beautiful 😩❤️

👋🏽👋🏽I’m only 3weeks into my loc journey and your hair and videos are a huge inspiration ❤️🖤❤️
I'm guilty I was retwisting my Locs dry while you were talking about it
lol its ok we all are guilty
Randy's Tv omgggg same
Great tips, keep up the positive vibes! It's a blessing and so cool to have you do these videos! Take care Danielle!
Luvin' these tips. Your locs are to die for! 💕
I’m 9 months loc’d so far and started my own channel to document my journey. I started with two strand twists as well!! You hair is GOALS AF !!! 😍😍😍
Thank you for honest and to-the-point vid. Had my Locs for a long time and I am guilty of a lot of these points. I ❤️ your Locs.
Omg your beautiful and thanks for all the information queen 👑 I started my loc journey two years ago..I wish my mom was that confident as your mom to start very early🙏🏽salute
Excellent advice. I've been locking for 15 years and all 6 of these are very sound advice. Kudos.
thanks glad you liked my advice
I want to pay your hairs rent. Is your hair seeing anyone?
Haight the Great 😂
Hahaha😂😂 they are amazing. Lol
😂😂
Yeah I have hella bad hand in hair syndrome so put a head wrap or loc soc on most of the time while I'm at home and work (which luckily I can do) and have it out when I go places. It's been helping a lot
My new favorite channel. I'm considering locs.
That creamy crack mentality has encroach in the loc community. Your locs are super gorgeous!!! Awesome advice.

Danielle Reed Hey luv, read up on the Bicarbonate Soda, Honey and Coconut Oil scalp masque. You could have a fungal/yeast infection rather than Seb' dermatitis😊
I interlock and it because my hair can't really hold a retwist but I normally wait 6 months before interlocking.
you have beautiful hair. I'm two years into my journey and your all the way right--- retwisting so much and tight hair styles
great video
Yes, I love it! Listen to them. They (locs) will definitely tell you what they like and dislike. I’m listening lately lol
thank you - great video. I started my journey with #interlock 12-26-2016.I am six months in and did my first maintenance (#interlock) June 15, 2017. I only plan to maintain twice a year. In between #semi #freeforming
Love you Danielle!!! She is an amazing person yall from Toronto
& you & your hair are extremely beautiful❤❤❤
thanks queen
Danielle Loxs You're welcome❤
omg! Your locs are soo beautiful! I do have thin edges with my locs, but I wear my hair down over it because now they are long enough to cover. I'm Learning now!! Can't wait till my locs mature.
SIS!!! Thank you! Your hair is hella healthy. ion know what possessed me into believing every wash, I have to re-twist. nonsense on my part. I'd like to know what shampoo, conditioner and oils you trust on your hair. Love your crown. Bless me, Please :)
I should have keep my original set, I learned my lesson and hope to have as long as you when I start back
Factz!! I do the same thing...Beautiful thick locs are ur results.. Thanks for spreading the knowledge..Peace
the back of my hair was never thick like the front, even before i locked my hair it was always like that, i just assumed the back of my hair was a different texture than the front lol
Loving your videos girl, watching from South Africa. I am a big fan
Accurate knowledge & great video, your difference in front 2 bak dread size is genetics, every1s hair pattern/areas vary.
A big thanks to you sis .. your tips are very helpful I will work on improving thickening my roots with your suggestions
Thanks! Danielle, great tips, good video. Your locs look great! Plus, you're cute with nice thick lips. You go girl!
Hey Loc sis! Thanks for the tips ❤️.I love finding new youtubers with locs like me. New subscriber btw
Your hair is gorgeous! Thanks for the tips. What about interlocking causes damage and balding?
I love your locs so much
your locs are gorgeous omg. just subscribed :)
This was very helpful I’ve been going crazy with interlocking I need to stop lol
Damn, I knew I was screwed when she said don’t retwist too much😶
Same here. I want locs, but i was thinking retwisting every month. Maybe I just need twists...
Me too, I do it after every three weeks and I feel so stupid🤦
Ooooh nooo. Yall, wait a few months. Wash and let it be.
I go every 2 to 3 months without a retwist but my newgrowth doesn't grow into all my locs I have a looser curl pattern but thick ass hair
That’s one reason why I’m semi free form. I never retwist. I just separate as needed/wanted.
Ooh! I got queasy looking at those overly tight locks, omgggguh. Your locks are tremendous!
Love this video and of course your natural hair. Keep it up from one natural girl to another. Blessings. 😎😇
Beautiful locs
Very informative video. Thanks
Beautiful lady with great information. Thank you.
Thank you and your hair looks very healthy

I wish twisting would work for me but my new growth doesn't grow with my locs, they grow away from my locs. I got no choice but to interlock. Lol.
But these tips are great.
Jay Winter whaaaaat that sucks! ☹️ you have a looser curl pattern? Is that why you have to interlock?
yea i feel you..& thanks :)
Jay Winter I have the same issue. I have to interlock but I only interlock every 4 months, so basically 3 times a year. I don't twist unless I braid my locs together which is like once a month or once every 2 months. I love to see my new growth for some odd reason lol. Jay Winter me too! but don't do it often. I went a month and a week last Time. Trying to go a month and two weeks. I can't go much longe cause they are babies but hopefully I can go 2 months soon.
Some say my retwsting videos helped them, I'm not sure if it would help your loose hairs grow with it better, but definitely worth checking out!
Thanks for the tips. I interlock every two months. No problems thus far
What do you moisturize your hair with? Ive started using the jamaican mango and lime moisturizing oil but im not sure if its a good choice.
Beautiful Queen my hair giving me a hard time keeping it from frizzy thanks for the tip❤️🙏🏽
OMG Super Awesome Video. Love Love Love Your Locs! Keep Doing you Boo.
Thank you for the tips. I needed them
no problem
I've been trying to get my hair how you got your hair I was trying to get it more thicker cuz I like the way you got your hair and that's how I want mines
I'm really contemplating starting my loc journey, but I feel like I don't know how to take care of starter locs or locs at all. I really don't want to get them if I don't know how to take care of them myself. I wanted to know if you have a video or could do a video on how to take care of starter locs?
you are so beautiful, easily one of the most gorgeous women i have ever seen. And no im hitting on you,im just being honest.
Jerry Booker She is absolutely stunning!!
What is interlocking? I don't have dreads so I'm not aware.
Search it up
I think I have been guilty of all of those, hence my thinning in the front. It's coming back but I am going to leave it alone a bit longer to let it grow back.
Great info.
Beautiful Locs.
Are they Heavy?
I never understand why the so called loc professionals don't naturally knows if you twist the locs so tight eventually the client hair will start having. breakage from the stress of to much pull. This is just common sense
yes..thanks for the advice I noticed my dreads are thinning out and breakage at the ends.
Thank you for the enlightenment love and peace to you
I think retwist every 2-3 months is sufficient for me . I interlocked once , it made them feel thin. I would never do it again .
I love her videos! so informative
im 1 month into my journey & u hella funny gang 😂
Thank you for the video. Learning a lot
Always enjoy your vids.
awww thanks
i watch your videos cuz your 🔥
king tobes 🔥😊🔥😊
When you say moisturize your hair... do you mean just put oil on your scalp everyday or are other things involved? At a lot of my locs are starting to thin and I moved to a place where it snows coming from the Caribbean.
Your locs are fabulous
It is too late for mine. Already thinning. But it could be made worse because I have seborrhaic dermatitis and I take antidepressants. I wonder can they cause thinning? I will be getting off the antidepressants as soon as I am able. Just trying to get enough funds so I can see a psychiatrist so I can ween myself off of them properly.
what would you say is the best method for starting locs?(curly hair) other than freeforms i do not like that style.
Hey, Danielle I'm a new subscriber. I interlock once every 6-8weeks but really want to stop. I know about comb twist n palm but is there other retwisting can i d
What's the name of your other two pages again? I am so interested in all the right things to do to maintain my locs I missed it. 😊
great tips what products should i use for baldness i do have alot of hair but it getting thinning and im a guy i used to braid alot but now i dont i just put my hair in a pony
How often do you wash your
Once a month once every two months
I try not to put anything in my hair but sometimes I glossed it up once in awhile
